1 ULB ଏଥିଉତ୍ତାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ହୁଅନ୍ତେ, ଆପଣା ପୁତ୍ରମାନଙ୍କୁ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ ଉପରେ ବିଚାରକର୍ତ୍ତା କଲେ। BSB BSB: When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges over Israel.
2 ULB ତାଙ୍କର ଜ୍ୟେଷ୍ଠ ପୁତ୍ରର ନାମ ଯୋୟେଲ ଓ ଦ୍ୱିତୀୟର ନାମ ଅବୀୟ; ଏମାନେ ବେର୍ଶେବାରେ ବିଚାରକର୍ତ୍ତା ଥିଲେ। BSB BSB: The name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second was Abijah. They were judges in Beersheba.
3 ULB ମାତ୍ର ତାଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ରମାନେ ତାଙ୍କର ପଥରେ ନ ଚାଲି ଅନ୍ୟାୟ ଲାଭର ଅନୁଗାମୀ ହେଲେ ଓ ଲାଞ୍ଚ ନେଇ ବିଚାର ବିପରୀତ କଲେ। BSB BSB: But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside toward dishonest gain, accepting bribes and perverting justice.
4 ULB ତହିଁରେ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲର ସମସ୍ତ ପ୍ରାଚୀନବର୍ଗ ଏକତ୍ର ହୋଇ ରାମାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କ ନିକଟକୁ ଆସିଲେ; BSB BSB: So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah.
5 ULB ପୁଣି, ସେମାନେ ତାଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ଦେଖ, ତୁମ୍ଭେ ବୃଦ୍ଧ ହେଲ, ପୁଣି, ତୁମ୍ଭର ପୁତ୍ରମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପଥରେ ଚାଲୁ ନାହାନ୍ତି; ଏହେତୁ ଅନ୍ୟ ସକଳ ଦେଶୀୟମାନଙ୍କ ପରି ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ବିଚାର କରିବାକୁ ତୁମ୍ଭେ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଏକ ରାଜା ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କର। BSB BSB: “Look,” they said, “you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now appoint a king to judge us like all the other nations.”
6 ULB ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ବିଚାର କରିବା ପାଇଁ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଏକ ରାଜା ଦିଅ, ସେମାନେ ଏହି କଥା କହିବା ବେଳେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କର ଦୃଷ୍ଟିରେ ତାହା ମନ୍ଦ ବୋଧ ହେଲା। ଏଥିରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କଲେ। BSB BSB: But when they said, “Give us a king to judge us,” their demand was displeasing in the sight of Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD.
7 ULB ସେତେବେଳେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ଏହି ଲୋକମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଯାହା ଯାହା କହନ୍ତି, ସେହିସବୁ ରବରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣପାତ କର; କାରଣ ସେମାନେ କେବଳ ତୁମ୍ଭକୁ ଅଗ୍ରାହ୍ୟ କରି ନାହାନ୍ତି, ମାତ୍ର ଆମ୍ଭେ ଯେପରି ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ରାଜା ନୋହିବା, ଏଥିପାଇଁ ସେମାନେ ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ଅଗ୍ରାହ୍ୟ କରିଅଛନ୍ତି। BSB BSB: And the LORD said to Samuel, “Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king.
8 ULB ଆମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ମିସରରୁ ବାହାର କରି ଆଣିବା ଦିନାବଧି ଆଜି ପର୍ଯ୍ୟନ୍ତ ସେମାନେ ଆମ୍ଭକୁ ପରିତ୍ୟାଗ କରି ଅନ୍ୟ ଦେବଗଣର ସେବା କରି ଯେସମସ୍ତ କର୍ମ କରିଅଛନ୍ତି, ତଦନୁସାରେ ସେମାନେ ତୁମ୍ଭ ପ୍ରତି ମଧ୍ୟ କରୁଅଛନ୍ତି। BSB BSB: Just as they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you.
9 ULB ଏହେତୁ ଏବେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ରବରେ କର୍ଣ୍ଣପାତ କର; ତଥାପି ତୁମ୍ଭେ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ବିରୁଦ୍ଧରେ ସ୍ପଷ୍ଟ ସାକ୍ଷ୍ୟ ଦିଅ ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଯେ ରାଜତ୍ୱ କରିବେ, ସେହି ରାଜାର ବିଧି ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଅ। BSB BSB: Now listen to their voice; but you must solemnly warn them and show them the manner of the king who will reign over them.”
10 ULB ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଯେଉଁମାନେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ ରାଜା ମାଗିଥିଲେ, ସେହି ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ ସେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ କଥା ଜଣାଇଲେ। BSB BSB: So Samuel spoke all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king.
11 ULB ଆହୁରି ସେ କହିଲେ, ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଯେ ରାଜତ୍ୱ କରିବ, ସେହି ରାଜାର ଏହି ପ୍ରକାର ବିଧି ହେବ; ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କର ପୁତ୍ରଗଣକୁ ନେଇ ଆପଣା ରଥ ନିମନ୍ତେ ଓ ଆପଣାର ଅଶ୍ୱାରୋହୀ ହେବା ନିମନ୍ତେ ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ ଓ ସେମାନେ ତାହାର ରଥ ଆଗେ ଆଗେ ଦୌଡ଼ିବେ। BSB BSB: He said, “This will be the manner of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them to serve his own chariots and horses, and to run in front of his chariots.
12 ULB ପୁଣି, ସେ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ ଆପଣାର ସହସ୍ରପତି ଓ ପଚାଶତ୍ପତି କରି ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ ଓ ସେ ଆପଣା ଭୂମି ଚାଷ କରିବାକୁ ଓ ଆପଣା ଶସ୍ୟ କାଟିବାକୁ ଓ ଆପଣା ଯୁଦ୍ଧାସ୍ତ୍ର ଓ ଆପଣା ରଥସଜ୍ଜା ନିର୍ମାଣ କରିବାକୁ ସେମାନଙ୍କୁ କାହାକୁ କାହାକୁ ନିଯୁକ୍ତ କରିବ। BSB BSB: He will appoint some for himself as commanders of thousands and of fifties, and others to plow his ground, to reap his harvest, and to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
13 ULB ଆଉ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ କନ୍ୟାଗଣକୁ ନେଇ ଗନ୍ଧଦ୍ରବ୍ୟ ପ୍ରସ୍ତୁତକାରିଣୀ ଓ ପାଚିକା ଓ ସୂପକାରିଣୀ କରିବ। BSB BSB: And he will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers.
14 ULB ଆହୁରି ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଶସ୍ୟକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଜୀତକ୍ଷେତ୍ର ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ସର୍ବୋତ୍ତମ କ୍ଷେତ୍ରସବୁ ନେଇ ଆପଣା ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବ। BSB BSB: He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his servants.
15 ULB ପୁଣି, ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ବିହନର ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦ୍ରାକ୍ଷାର ଦଶମାଂଶ ନେଇ ଆପଣାର ଗୃହାଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷ ଓ ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଦେବ। BSB BSB: He will take a tenth of your grain and grape harvest and give it to his officials and servants.
16 ULB ଆଉ ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦାସମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଦାସୀମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ସର୍ବୋତ୍ତମ ଯୁବା ପୁରୁଷମାନଙ୍କୁ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଗର୍ଦ୍ଦଭ ସକଳ ନେଇ ଆପଣା କାର୍ଯ୍ୟରେ ଲଗାଇବ। BSB BSB: And he will take your menservants and maidservants and your best cattle and donkeys and put them to his own use.
17 ULB ସେ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ମେଷପଲର ଦଶମାଂଶ ନେବ ଓ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ତାହାର ଦାସ ହେବ। BSB BSB: He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves.
18 ULB ପୁଣି, ସେ ସମୟରେ ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ଆପଣା ମନୋନୀତ ରାଜା ସକାଶୁ କ୍ରନ୍ଦନ କରିବ; ମାତ୍ର ସେସମୟରେ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ତୁମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ଉତ୍ତର ଦେବେ ନାହିଁ। BSB BSB: When that day comes, you will beg for relief from the king you have chosen, but the LORD will not answer you on that day.”
19 ULB ତଥାପି ଲୋକମାନେ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କର ରବ ଶୁଣିବାକୁ ନାସ୍ତି କଲେ; ଆଉ ସେମାନେ କହିଲେ, ନା; ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଉପରେ ଜଣେ ରାଜା ହେଉନ୍ତୁ; BSB BSB: Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to Samuel. “No!” they said. “We must have a king over us.
20 ULB ତହିଁରେ ଆମ୍ଭେମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଅନ୍ୟ ସବୁ ଦେଶୀୟଙ୍କ ପରି ହେବା; ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ରାଜା ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କୁ ବିଚାର କରିବେ ଓ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ଅଗ୍ରସର ହୋଇ ଆମ୍ଭମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଯୁଦ୍ଧ କରିବେ। BSB BSB: Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to judge us, to go out before us, and to fight our battles.”
21 ULB ଏଥିରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କର ସମସ୍ତ କଥା ଶୁଣି ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁଙ୍କ କର୍ଣ୍ଣଗୋଚରରେ ତାହା କହିଲେ। BSB BSB: Samuel listened to all the words of the people and repeated them in the hearing of the LORD.
22 ULB ତହୁଁ ସଦାପ୍ରଭୁ ଶାମୁୟେଲଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ସେମାନଙ୍କ ରବ ଶୁଣ ଓ ସେମାନଙ୍କ ପାଇଁ ଜଣେ ରାଜା ସ୍ଥିର କର। ଏଉତ୍ତାରେ ଶାମୁୟେଲ ଇସ୍ରାଏଲ-ଲୋକମାନଙ୍କୁ କହିଲେ, ତୁମ୍ଭେମାନେ ପ୍ରତ୍ୟେକେ ଆପଣା ଆପଣା ନଗରକୁ ଯାଅ। BSB BSB: “Listen to their voice,” the LORD said to Samuel. “Appoint a king for them.” Then Samuel told the men of Israel, “Everyone must go back to his city.”
