1 ULB ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਕਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਲਈ ਸੋਗ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹੇਗਾਂ ਜਦ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਤਿਆਗ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ? ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇਲ ਭਰ ਅਤੇ ਜਾ। ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੱਸੀ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਦਾ ਹਾਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਚੁਣਿਆ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: Now the LORD said to Samuel, “How long are you going to mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have selected from his sons a king for Myself.”
2 ULB ਸਮੂਏਲ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਂਵਾਂ? ਜੇਕਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਇਹ ਸੁਣੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟੇਗਾ। ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਇੱਕ ਵੱਛੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਾ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਖ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। BSB BSB: “How can I go?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear of it and kill me!” The LORD answered, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.’
3 ULB ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਬਲੀ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਫੇਰ ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਉਹ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕਰ। BSB BSB: Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you are to do. You are to anoint for Me the one I indicate.”
5 ULB ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਮੈਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਆਓ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਟ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੱਦਿਆ। BSB BSB: “In peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the LORD. Consecrate yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
6 ULB ਜਦ ਉਹ ਆਏ ਤਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਅਲੀਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸੋਚਿਆ, ਯਕੀਨਨ ਜੋ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਹੈ ਉਹੀ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: When they arrived, Samuel saw Eliab and said, “Surely here before the LORD is His anointed.”
7 ULB ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉਹ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਕੱਦ ਵੱਲ ਨਾ ਵੇਖ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਸਵੀਕਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਵਰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ। ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਹਰਲਾ ਰੂਪ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਿਲ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਾ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”
8 ULB ਤਦ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਅਬੀਨਾਦਾਬ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਇਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਣਿਆ। BSB BSB: Then Jesse called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
9 ULB ਫੇਰ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਸ਼ੰਮਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਇਹ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਣਿਆ। BSB BSB: Next Jesse presented Shammah, but Samuel said, “The LORD has not chosen this one either.”
10 ULB ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੱਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੋ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੁਣਿਆ। BSB BSB: Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The LORD has not chosen any of these.”
11 ULB ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਕੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਹਨ? ਉਹ ਬੋਲਿਆ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟਾ ਅਜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਇੱਜੜ ਨੂੰ ਚਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਤਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਨਾ ਆਵੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਬੈਠਾਂਗੇ। BSB BSB: And Samuel asked him, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is tending the sheep.” “Send for him,” Samuel replied. “For we will not sit down to eat until he arrives.”
12 ULB ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਦਰ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ। ਉਸ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਲ, ਸੋਹਣੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਵੇਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਚੰਗਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਉੱਠ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕਰ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਇਹੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: So Jesse sent for his youngest son and brought him in. He was ruddy, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him, for he is the one.”
13 ULB ਤਦ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਨੇ ਤੇਲ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਅਭਿਸ਼ੇਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦਿਨ ਤੋਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਾਊਦ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮੂਏਲ ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ਰਾਮਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਦਾ ਹੋਇਆ। BSB BSB: So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD rushed upon David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.
14 ULB ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਅਲੱਗ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ-ਆਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਘਬਰਾਉਣ ਲੱਗਾ। BSB BSB: Now the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and a spirit of distress from the LORD began to torment him.
15 ULB ਤਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਵੇਖੋ, ਹੁਣ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ-ਆਤਮਾ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਘਬਰਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: Saul’s servants said to him, “Surely a spirit of distress from God is tormenting you.
16 ULB ਸਾਡਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹਨ ਆਗਿਆ ਦੇਵੇ ਕਿ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਇੱਕ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਲੱਭਣ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਬਰਬਤ ਵਜਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਹੋਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ-ਆਤਮਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਹੱਥ ਨਾਲ ਵਜਾਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਚੰਗੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਓਗੇ। BSB BSB: Let our lord command your servants here to seek out someone who can skillfully play the harp. Whenever the spirit of distress from God is upon you, he is to play it, and you will be well.”
17 ULB ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਧੀਆ ਬਰਬਤ ਵਜਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨੂੰ ਲੱਭੋ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਲੈ ਆਉ। BSB BSB: And Saul commanded his servants, “Find me someone who plays well, and bring him to me.”
18 ULB ਸੋ ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, ਵੇਖ, ਮੈਂ ਬੈਤਲਹਮ ਦੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਵਜਾਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਸ਼ਲ ਹੈ, ਨਾਲੇ ਵੱਡਾ ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਹੈ, ਜੋਧਾ ਹੈ, ਗੱਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਿਆਣਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋਹਣਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the harp. He is a mighty man of valor, a warrior, eloquent and handsome, and the LORD is with him.”
19 ULB ਸੋ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਦੂਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦਾ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਇੱਜੜ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜ ਦੇ। BSB BSB: So Saul sent messengers to Jesse and said, “Send me your son David, who is with the sheep.”
20 ULB ਤਦ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਗਧਾ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਰੋਟੀਆਂ ਲੱਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਮਸ਼ਕ ਮੈਅ ਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੱਕਰੀ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਬੱਚਾ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲ ਭੇਜਿਆ। BSB BSB: And Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a skin of wine, and one young goat and sent them to Saul with his son David.
21 ULB ਦਾਊਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਆ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਬਹੁਤ ਪਿਆਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਸਤਰ ਚੁੱਕਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। BSB BSB: When David came to Saul and entered his service, Saul loved him very much, and David became his armor-bearer.
22 ULB ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੇ ਯੱਸੀ ਨੂੰ ਆਖ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਦੇ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹਾਂ। BSB BSB: Then Saul sent word to Jesse, saying, “Let David remain in my service, for I am pleased with him.”
23 ULB ਤਾਂ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਕਿ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ-ਆਤਮਾ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਦਾਊਦ ਬਰਬਤ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਨੂੰ ਤਾਜ਼ਗੀ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ-ਆਤਮਾ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਉੱਤੋਂ ਹੱਟ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। BSB BSB: And whenever the spirit from God came upon Saul, David would pick up his harp and play. Then Saul would find relief and feel better, and the spirit of distress would depart from him.
