And they told David, “It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.”
5 ULB ਸੋ ਦਾਊਦ ਨੇ ਯਾਬੇਸ਼ ਗਿਲਆਦ ਦੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਦੂਤ ਭੇਜ ਕੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੱਡੀ ਦਯਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਦਫ਼ਨਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ। BSB BSB: So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead to tell them, “The LORD bless you, because you showed this kindness to Saul your lord when you buried him.

13 ULB ਅਤੇ ਸਰੂਯਾਹ ਦਾ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਕੇ ਗਿਬਓਨ ਦੇ ਤਲਾਬ ਕੋਲ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੋਵੇਂ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ ਇੱਕ ਤਾਂ ਤਲਾਬ ਦੇ ਉਰਲੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਤਲਾਬ ਦੇ ਪਰਲੇ ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ। BSB BSB: So Joab son of Zeruiah and the servants of David marched out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. And the two groups took up positions on opposite sides of the pool.
14 ULB ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਆਖੋ ਤਾਂ ਜੁਆਨ ਉੱਠਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਕੋਈ ਖੇਡ ਵਿਖਾਉਣ। ਯੋਆਬ ਬੋਲਿਆ, ਉੱਠੋ। BSB BSB: Then Abner said to Joab, “Let us have the young men get up and compete before us.” “Let them get up,” Joab replied.
15 ULB ਤਦ ਸ਼ਾਊਲ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਈਸ਼ਬੋਸ਼ਬ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ ਦੇ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਜੁਆਨ ਉੱਠੇ ਅਤੇ ਪਰਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਸੇਵਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਬਾਰਾਂ ਜੁਆਨ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ। BSB BSB: So they got up and were counted off—twelve for Benjamin and Ish-bosheth son of Saul, and twelve for David.
16 ULB ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ-ਇੱਕ ਨੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਰੋਂ ਫੜ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਦੀ ਵੱਖੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਧਸਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਇੱਕਠੇ ਹੀ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਏ! ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਲਕਤ ਹੱਸੂਰੀਮ ਰੱਖਿਆ, ਜੋ ਗਿਬਓਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ। BSB BSB: Then each man grabbed his opponent by the head and thrust his sword into his opponent’s side, and they all fell together. 20 ULB ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ, ਕੀ ਤੂੰ ਹੀ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਹੈਂ? ਉਸ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਹਾਂ, ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਹਾਂ! BSB BSB: And Abner glanced back and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” “It is,” Asahel replied.

22 ULB ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਨੂੰ ਫਿਰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਛੱਡ ਦੇ! ਮੈਂ ਕਿਉਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਵੱਢ ਕੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਤੇ ਸੁੱਟਾਂ? ਫੇਰ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਰਾ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਵਿਖਾਵਾਂਗਾ? BSB BSB: Once again, Abner warned Asahel, “Stop chasing me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How could I show my face to your brother Joab?”
23 ULB ਪਰ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਮੁੜਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾਂਹ ਕੀਤੀ। ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਬਰਛੀ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਢਿੱਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਦੀ ਪਾਰ ਨਿੱਕਲ ਗਈ, ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਡਿੱਗ ਪਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਸੇ ਥਾਂ ਮਰ ਗਿਆ। ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਇਆ, ਜੋ ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਸਥਾਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਅਸਾਹੇਲ ਮਰਿਆ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਉੱਥੇ ਹੀ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ। BSB BSB: But Asahel refused to turn away. So Abner thrust the butt of his spear into his stomach, and it came out his back, and he fell dead on the spot. And every man paused when he came to the place where Asahel had fallen and died.
24 ULB ਤਦ ਯੋਆਬ ਅਤੇ ਅਬੀਸ਼ਈ ਵੀ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਉਹ ਅੰਮਾਹ ਦੇ ਪਹਾੜ ਤੱਕ ਜੋ ਗਿਬਓਨ ਦੇ ਉਜਾੜ ਦੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਗਿਯਹ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਹੈ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ, ਤਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਡੁੱਬ ਗਿਆ। BSB BSB: But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. By sunset, they had gone as far as the hill of Ammah opposite Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 ULB ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨੀ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਇੱਕਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਟੋਲੀ ਬਣ ਕੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਹਾੜ ਦੀ ਟੀਸੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ। BSB BSB: The Benjamites rallied to Abner, formed a single unit, and took their stand atop a hill.
26 ULB ਤਦ ਅਬਨੇਰ ਨੇ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਭਲਾ, ਕੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਸਦਾ ਤਬਾਹੀ ਕਰਦੀ ਰਹੇਗੀ? ਭਲਾ ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਜੋ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਬੁਰਾ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਕਦ ਤੱਕ ਤੂੰ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਨਾ ਮੋਂੜੇਗਾ? BSB BSB: Then Abner called out to Joab: “Must the sword devour forever? Do you not realize that this will only end in bitterness? How long before you tell the troops to stop pursuing their brothers?”
27 ULB ਤਦ ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਸਹੁੰ, ਜੇ ਕਦੇ ਤੂੰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਆਖਦਾ, ਤਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੁੜ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਕਰਦੇ। BSB BSB: “As surely as God lives,” Joab replied, “if you had not spoken up, the troops would have continued pursuing their brothers until morning.”
28 ULB ਯੋਆਬ ਨੇ ਤੁਰ੍ਹੀ ਵਜਾਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਖੜ੍ਹੇ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦਾ ਪਿੱਛਾ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਲੜਾਈ ਵੀ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ। BSB BSB: So Joab blew the ram’s horn, and all the troops stopped; they no longer pursued Israel or continued to fight.
29 ULB ਅਬਨੇਰ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ ਉਸ ਸਾਰੀ ਰਾਤ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਯਰਦਨ ਦੇ ਪਾਰ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਬਿਤਰੋਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੀ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਮਹਨਾਇਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੇਰ ਆ ਗਏ। BSB BSB: And all that night Abner and his men marched through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan, marched all morning, and arrived at Mahanaim.

In addition to Asahel, nineteen of David’s servants were missing,
