1 ULB ਹੁਣ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ-ਇੱਕ ਜਣਾ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਟੱਬਰ ਨਾਲ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਇਹ ਹਨ। BSB BSB: These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family:
2 ULB ਰਊਬੇਨ ਸ਼ਿਮਓਨ ਲੇਵੀ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ BSB BSB: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah;
3 ULB ਯਿੱਸਾਕਾਰ ਜ਼ਬੁਲੂਨ ਬਿਨਯਾਮੀਨ BSB BSB: Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin;
4 ULB ਦਾਨ ਨਫ਼ਤਾਲੀ ਗਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਆਸ਼ੇਰ। BSB BSB: Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher.
5 ULB ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਿਹੜੇ ਯਾਕੂਬ ਦੀ ਅੰਸ ਤੋਂ ਨਿੱਕਲੇ ਸੱਤਰ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਸੀ। BSB BSB: The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy in all, including Joseph, who was already in Egypt.
6 ULB ਯੂਸੁਫ਼, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਭਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਸਾਰੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਮਰ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਸੀ। BSB BSB: Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
7 ULB ਪਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਫਲੇ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਦਲ ਹੋ ਗਏ। ਵਧ ਕੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ ਕਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰ ਗਈ। BSB BSB: but the Israelites were fruitful and increased rapidly; they multiplied and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.
8 ULB ਤਾਂ ਮਿਸਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਵਾਂ ਰਾਜਾ ਉੱਠਿਆ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਯੂਸੁਫ਼ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਸੀ। BSB BSB: Then a new king, who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt.
9 ULB ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ, ਵੇਖੋ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀ ਲੋਕ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਵਧੀਕ ਅਤੇ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਹਨ। BSB BSB: “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become too numerous and too powerful for us.
10 ULB ਆਓ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਝ ਨਾਲ ਵਰਤਾਵ ਕਰੀਏ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਹੋਰ ਵਧ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਜਦ ਲੜਾਈ ਆ ਪਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੈਰੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਲੜਨ, ਫੇਰ ਇਸ ਦੇਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਤਾਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਚਲੇ ਜਾਣ। BSB BSB: Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, or they will increase even more; and if a war breaks out, they may join our enemies, fight against us, and leave the country.”
12 ULB ਪਰ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਉਹ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੁੱਖ ਦਿੰਦੇ ਸਨ ਉਹ ਉੱਨਾ ਹੀ ਵਧਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਫੈਲਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਸਨ, ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਉਹ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਕ ਗਏ। BSB BSB: But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and flourished; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites.
13 ULB ਉਪਰੰਤ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਇਸਰਾਏਲੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਖ਼ਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਟਹਿਲ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਲੱਗੇ। BSB BSB: They worked the Israelites ruthlessly
15 ULB ਤਦ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਇਬਰਾਨੀ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਫਰਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੀ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਫੂਆਹ ਸੀ ਆਖਿਆ BSB BSB: Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,
16 ULB ਜਦ ਇਬਰਾਨਣਾਂ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦਾਈ ਪੁਣਾ ਕਰਦੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਣਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਵੇਖਦੀਆਂ ਹੋ ਤਾਂ ਜੇਕਰ ਉਹ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਸੁੱਟੋ ਪਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਧੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਜਿਉਂਦੀ ਰਹੇ। BSB BSB: “When you help the Hebrew women give birth, observe them on the birthstools. If the child is a son, kill him; but if it is a daughter, let her live.”
17 ULB ਪਰ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਡਰਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ, ਉਹ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਰੱਖਦੀਆਂ ਸਨ। BSB BSB: The midwives, however, feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had instructed; they let the boys live.
18 ULB ਤਦ ਮਿਸਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਨੇ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੱਦ ਕੇ ਆਖਿਆ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਕਿਉਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਕਿ ਮੁੰਡਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਦਿੱਤਾ? BSB BSB: So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
19 ULB ਫਿਰ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਨੇ ਫ਼ਿਰਊਨ ਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਕਿ ਇਬਰਾਨੀ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਮਿਸਰੀ ਔਰਤਾਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਦੇ ਆਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਣ ਲੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। BSB BSB: The midwives answered Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before a midwife arrives.”
20 ULB ਇਸ ਲਈ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਨੇ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਲਿਆਈ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਲੋਕ ਵਧ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਬਲਵੰਤ ਹੋ ਗਏ। BSB BSB: So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied and became even more numerous.
21 ULB ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਕਿ ਦਾਈਆਂ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਡਰੀਆਂ ਉਸ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਵਸਾਏ। BSB BSB: And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.
22 ULB ਉਪਰੰਤ ਫ਼ਿਰਊਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਪਰਜਾ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਜੰਮੇ ਦਰਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿਓ ਪਰ ਹਰ ਇੱਕ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਜਿਉਂਦੀ ਰੱਖ ਲਓ। BSB BSB: Then Pharaoh commanded all his people: “Every son born to the Hebrews you must throw into the Nile, but every daughter you may allow to live.”
