1و در سال پانزدهم از سلطنت طیباریوس قیصر، در وقتی که پنطیوس پیلاطس، والی یهودیه بود و هیرودیس، تیترارک جلیل وبرادرش فیلپس تیترارک ایطوریه تراخونیتس ولیسانیوس تیترارک آبلیهIn the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, while Pontius Pilate was governor of Judea, Herod tetrarch of Galilee, his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

2و حنا و قیافا روسای کهنه بودند، کلام خدا به یحیی ابن زکریا در بیابان نازل شده،during the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.

3به تمامی حوالی اردن آمده، به تعمیدتوبه بجهت آمرزش گناهان موعظه میکرد.He went into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,

4چنانچه مکتوب است در صحیفه کلمات اشعیای نبی که میگوید: «صدای ندا کنندهای دربیابان که راه خداوند را مهیا سازید و طرق او راراست نمایید.as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.

5هر وادی انباشته و هر کوه و تلی پست و هر کجی راست و هر راه ناهموار صاف خواهد شدEvery valley shall be filled in, and every mountain and hill made low. The crooked ways shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth.

6و تمامی بشر نجات خدا را خواهنددید.»And all humanity will see God’s salvation.’”

7آنگاه به آن جماعتی که برای تعمید وی بیرون میآمدند، گفت: «ای افعیزادگان، که شمارا نشان داد که از غضب آینده بگریزید؟Then John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

8پس ثمرات مناسب توبه بیاورید و در خاطر خود این سخن را راه مدهید که ابراهیم پدر ماست، زیرا به شما میگویم خدا قادر است که از این سنگها، فرزندان برای ابراهیم برانگیزاند.Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

9و الان نیز تیشه بر ریشه درختان نهاده شده است، پس هر درختی که میوه نیکو نیاورد، بریده و در آتش افکنده میشود.»The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”

10پس مردم از وی سوال نموده گفتند: «چه کنیم؟»The crowds asked him, “What then should we do?”

11او در جواب ایشان گفت: «هرکه دوجامه دارد، به آنکه ندارد بدهد. و هرکه خوراک دارد نیز چنین کند.»John replied, “Whoever has two tunics should share with him who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.”

12و باجگیران نیز برای تعمید آمده، بدو گفتند: «ای استاد چه کنیم؟»Even tax collectors came to be baptized. “Teacher,” they asked, “what should we do?”

13بدیشان گفت: «زیادتر از آنچه مقرر است، مگیرید.»“Collect no more than you are authorized,” he answered.

14سپاهیان نیز از او پرسیده، گفتند: «ماچه کنیم؟» به ایشان گفت: «بر کسی ظلم مکنید وبر هیچکس افترا مزنید و به مواجب خود اکتفاکنید.»Then some soldiers asked him, “And what should we do?” “Do not take money by force or false accusation,” he said. “Be content with your wages.”

15و هنگامی که قوم مترصد میبودند و همه در خاطر خود درباره یحیی تفکر مینمودندکه این مسیح است یا نه،The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John could be the Christ.

16یحیی به همه متوجه شده گفت: «من شما را به آب تعمیدمی دهم، لیکن شخصی تواناتر از من میآید که لیاقت آن ندارم که بند نعلین او را باز کنم. اوشما را به روحالقدس و آتش تعمید خواهد داد.John answered all of them: “I baptize you with water, but One more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

17او غربال خود را بهدست خود دارد وخرمن خویش را پاک کرده، گندم را در انبارخود ذخیره خواهد نمود و کاه را در آتشی که خاموشی نمی پذیرد خواهد سوزانید.»His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather the wheat into His barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

18وبه نصایح بسیار دیگر، قوم را بشارت میداد.With these and many other exhortations, John proclaimed the good news to the people.

19اما هیرودیس تیترارک چون بهسبب هیرودیا، زن برادر او فیلپس و سایر بدیهایی که هیرودیس کرده بود از وی توبیخ یافت،But when he rebuked Herod the tetrarch regarding his brother’s wife Herodias and all the evils he had done,

20این رانیز بر همه افزود که یحیی را در زندان حبس نمود.Herod added this to them all: He locked John up in prison.

21اما چون تمامی قوم تعمید یافته بودند وعیسی هم تعمید گرفته دعا میکرد، آسمان شکافته شدWhen all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened,

22و روحالقدس به هیات جسمانی، مانند کبوتری بر او نازل شد. و آوازی از آسمان دررسید که تو پسر حبیب من هستی که به توخشنودم.and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in a bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”

23و خود عیسی وقتی که شروع کرد، قریب به سی ساله بود. و حسب گمان خلق، پسر یوسف ابن هالیJesus Himself was about thirty years old when He began His ministry. He was regarded as the son of Joseph, the son of Heli,

24ابن متات، بن لاوی، بن ملکی، بن ینا، بن یوسف،the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,

25ابن متاتیا، بن آموس، بن ناحوم، بن حسلی، بن نجی،the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,

26ابن مات، بن متاتیا، بن شمعی، بن یوسف، بن یهودا،the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda,

27ابن یوحنا، بن ریسا، بن زروبابل، بن سالتیئیل، بن نیری،the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,

28ابن ملکی، بن ادی، بن قوسام، بن ایلمودام، بن عیر،the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmadam, the son of Er,

29ابن یوسی، بن ایلعاذر، بن یوریم، بن متات، بن لاوی،the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,

30ابن شمعون، بن یهودا، بن یوسف، بن یونان، بن ایلیاقیم،the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonam, the son of Eliakim,

31ابن ملیا، بن مینان، بن متاتا بن ناتان، بن داود،the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

32ابن یسی، بن عوبید، بن بوعز، بن شلمون، بن نحشون،the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Sala, the son of Nahshon,

33ابن عمیناداب، بن ارام، بن حصرون، بن فارص، بن یهودا،the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Arni, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah,

34ابن یعقوب، بن اسحق، بن ابراهیم، بن تارح، بن ناحور،the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor,

35ابن سروج، بن رعور، بن فالج، بن عابر، بن صالح،the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,

36ابن قینان، بن ارفکشاد، بن سام، بن نوح، بن لامک،the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

37ابن متوشالح، بن خنوخ، بن یارد، بن مهللئیل، بن قینان،the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan,

38ابن انوش، بن شیث، بن آدم، بن الله.the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
