1. 1PORONBVEnquanto eles ainda estavam morando em Nazaré, João Batista começou a pregar no deserto da Judeia.BSBBSB: In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea
2. 2PORONBVSeu assunto constante era: “Abandonem os seus pecados, voltem-se para Deus, porque o Reino dos céus está para chegar logo”.BSBBSB: and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”
3. 3PORONBVO profeta Isaías tinha anunciado o seguinte a respeito do ministério de João: “Eu ouço uma voz que clama no deserto: ‘Preparem o caminho para o Senhor; endireitem o caminho por onde ele andará’.”BSBBSB: This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him.’”
4. 4PORONBVA roupa de João era feita de pelo de camelo; ele usava também um cinto de couro, comia gafanhotos e mel do campo.BSBBSB: John wore a garment of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5. 5PORONBVO povo de Jerusalém, de todo o vale do Jordão e de toda a região da Judeia, saía ao deserto para ouvir João pregar.BSBBSB: People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region around the Jordan.

8. 8PORONBVAntes de serem batizados, provem que vocês abandonaram o pecado, praticando obras dignas de arrependimento.BSBBSB: Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance.
9. 9PORONBVNão tentem escapar dessa forma, pensando: ‘Nós estamos salvos, porque somos judeus — somos descendentes de Abraão!’ Isso não prova coisa alguma! Deus pode transformar até estas pedras em descendentes de Abraão!BSBBSB: And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
10. 10PORONBVE o machado do julgamento de Deus já está pronto para cortar pela raiz cada árvore que não produz bons frutos. Elas serão derrubadas e queimadas.BSBBSB: The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11. 11PORONBV“Eu batizo com água aqueles que se arrependem dos seus pecados; mas está vindo um outro, muito maior do que eu, tão poderoso que eu não sou digno de carregar suas sandálias! Ele batizará vocês com o Espírito Santo e com fogo.BSBBSB: I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
12. 12PORONBVEle separará a palha do grão; queimará a palha com fogo que nunca vai se apagar, e guardará o grão no celeiro”.BSBBSB: His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
13. 13PORONBVEntão Jesus foi da sua casa na Galileia ao rio Jordão, para ser batizado por João.BSBBSB: At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
14. 14PORONBVJoão não queria fazer isso. “Isso não está certo”, dizia ele. “Eu é que preciso ser batizado pelo Senhor”.BSBBSB: But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?”
15. 15PORONBVMas Jesus disse: “Deixe que seja assim agora, porque eu devo fazer tudo o que Deus quer”. Então João o batizou.BSBBSB: “Let it be so now,” Jesus replied. “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way.” Then John permitted Him.
16. 16PORONBVDepois do seu batismo, logo que Jesus saiu da água, os céus se abriram e ele viu o Espírito de Deus descendo na forma de uma pomba e pousando sobre ele.BSBBSB: As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him.
17. 17PORONBVEntão uma voz do céu disse: “Este é o meu Filho amado, em quem tenho grande alegria”.BSBBSB: And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased!”
