3 ULB Que lucro o homem obtém de todo o trabalho com que se afadiga debaixo do sol? BSB BSB: What does a man gain from all his labor, at which he toils under the sun?
4 ULB Uma geração vai, outra geração vem, mas a terra permanece para sempre. BSB BSB: Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.
6 ULB O vento sopra para o sul e circula ao redor para o norte, sempre indo pelo seu caminho e voltando novamente. BSB BSB: The wind blows southward, then turns northward; round and round it swirls, ever returning on its course.
7 ULB Todos os rios fluem para o mar, mas o mar nunca se enche. Ao lugar para onde os rios vão, para ali eles irão novamente. BSB BSB: All the rivers flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full; to the place from which the streams come, there again they flow.
8 ULB Tudo se torna cansaço e ninguém pode explicar isso. Os olhos não ficam satisfeitos com o que veem, nem os ouvidos com o que ouvem. BSB BSB: All things are wearisome, more than one can describe; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear content with hearing.
9 ULB O que foi é o que será, e o que se fez é o que se fará. Não há nada de novo debaixo do sol. BSB BSB: What has been will be again, and what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.
10 ULB Há algo sobre o qual possa ser dito: "Veja! Isto é novo?" O que quer que exista, já havia existido há muito tempo, durante eras que vieram muito antes de nós. BSB BSB: Is there a case where one can say, “Look, this is new”? It has already existed in the ages before us.
11 ULB Ninguém parece lembrar-se daquilo que aconteceu nos tempos antigos e das coisas que ocorreram muito depois, e o que acontecerá no futuro, provavelmente, também não será lembrado". BSB BSB: There is no remembrance of those who came before, and those yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow after.
12 ULB Eu sou o sábio e tenho reinado sobre Israel em Jerusalém. BSB BSB: I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 ULB Apliquei minha mente ao estudo e a procurar com sabedoria sobre tudo o que é feito debaixo dos céus. Esta procura é uma tarefa penosa, que Deus entregou aos filhos dos homens para se ocuparem. BSB BSB: And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a miserable task God has laid upon the sons of men to occupy them!
14 ULB Tenho visto todas as obras que são feitas debaixo do sol e, vê, todas elas são como o vapor e como tentativas de pastorear o vento. BSB BSB: I have seen all the things that are done under the sun, and have found them all to be futile, a pursuit of the wind.
15 ULB O que está distorcido não pode ser endireitado; o que falta não pode ser contado! BSB BSB: What is crooked cannot be straightened, and what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 ULB Tenho falado ao meu coração, dizendo: "Vê! Adquiri mais sabedoria do que todos os que viveram antes de mim, em Jerusalém. Minha mente tem visto grande sabedoria e conhecimento". BSB BSB: I said to myself, “Behold, I have grown and increased in wisdom beyond all those before me who were over Jerusalem, and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge.”
17 ULB Então, eu apliquei o meu coração a conhecer a sabedoria e também a loucura e a tolice. Eu cheguei à compreensão de que isto também era uma tentativa de correr atrás do vento. BSB BSB: So I set my mind to know wisdom and madness and folly; I learned that this, too, is a pursuit of the wind.
18 ULB Pois na abundância da sabedoria há muita frustração, e aquele que aumenta o saber, aumenta o sofrimento. BSB BSB: For with much wisdom comes much sorrow, and as knowledge grows, grief increases.
