1နိကောဒင်ဟု နာမည်ဟိသော ယုဒအမျိုးသား ခေါင်းဆောင်တစ်ယောက်ဟိ၏။ ထိုသူသည် ဖာရိယှဲရို့၏ အဖွဲ့ဝင်တစ်ဦးဖြစ်၏။Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews.

2သူသည် ညဉ့်အခါ ကိုယ်တော့်ထံသို့ လာ၍ “ဆရာ၊ ကိုယ်တော်သည် ဘုရားသခင် စီရွှတ်တော်မူသော ဆရာတစ်ပါး ဖြစ်ကြောင်းကို အကျွန်ရို့ သိကြပါ၏။ ကိုယ်တော်ပြတော်မူသော နိမိတ်လက္ခဏာတိကို ဘုရားသခင်အတူ မပါဟိလျှင် မည်သူမျှ ပြနိုင်မည် မဟုတ်ပါ” ဟု လျှောက်လေ၏။He came to Jesus at night and said, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.”

3ယေသျှုကလည်း “ငါအမှန်ဆိုသည်ကား၊ တဖန် မွီးဖွားခြင်းကို မခံသောသူသည် ဘုရားသခင်၏ နိုင်ငံတော်ကို မမြင်ရ” ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

4နိကောဒင်ကလည်း “အသက်ကြီးသော သူသည် တဖန် မွီးဖွားခြင်းကို ဇာပိုင် ခံရမည်နည်း။ မိခင်ဝမ်းထဲသို့ တဖန် ဝင်ပြီးလျှင် ဒုတိယအကြိမ် မွီးဖွား၍ မရနိုင်သည်မှာ သေချာပါ၏” ဟု ဆို၏။“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time to be born?”

5ယေသျှုကလည်း “သင်ရို့အား ငါအမှန် ဆိုသည်ကား၊ ရီ၌ လည်းကောင်း၊ ဝိညာဉ်တော်၌ လည်းကောင်း မွီးဖွားခြင်းကို မခံသောသူသည် ဘုရားသခင်၏နိုင်ငံတော်သို့ မဝင်ရ။Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

6အသွီးအသားအားဖြင့် မွီးဖွားသောသူသည် အသွီးအသားနှင့် ဆိုင်၏။ ဝိညာဉ်တော်အားဖြင့် မွီးဖွားသောသူသည် ဝိညာဉ်နှင့်သာ ဆိုင်၏။Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit.

7လူတိုင်း တဖန် မွီးဖွားခြင်းကို ခံရမည်ဟု ငါ ပြောသည်ကို မအံ့ဩကေ့။Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’

8လီသည် မိမိ တိုက်လိုရာသို့ တိုက်တတ်၏။ လီ၏အသံကို ကြားရသော်လည်း ဇာအရပ်မှ တိုက်လာသည်ကိုလည်းကောင်း၊ ဇာအရပ်သို့ တိုက်လိမ့်မည်ကိုလည်းကောင်း မသိနိုင်။ ဝိညာဉ်တော်အားဖြင့် မွီးဖွားသောသူသည်လည်း ဤကဲ့သို့ ဖြစ်၏” ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”

9နိကောဒင်ကလည်း “ဤအမှုအရာကား ဇာပိုင် ဖြစ်နိုင်မည်နည်း” ဟု မိန်းလေ၏။“How can this be?” Nicodemus asked.

10ယေသျှုကလည်း “သင်သည် ဣသရေလအမျိုးသားရို့တွင် ဆရာတစ်ပါး ဖြစ်ပါလျက်၊ ဤအကြောင်းအရာကို နားမလည်သလော။“You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and you do not understand these things?

11ငါအမှန် ဆိုသည်ကား၊ ငါရို့သည် ကိုယ်တိုင် သိသောအရာများကိုသာ ပြောကြ၏။ ကိုယ်မြင်သော အရာကိုသာ သက်သီခံကြ၏။ သို့သော်လည်း ငါရို့၏ သက်သီခံချက်တိကို သင်ရို့ လက်မခံသိမ့်သလော။Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.

12လောကနှင့် ဆိုင်သောအရာတိကို ငါ ပြောပြသော်လည်း သင်ရို့မယုံ၊ အထက်ကောင်းကင်နှင့် ဆိုင်သောအရာကို ငါ ပြောသော် သင်ရို့ ဇာပိုင် ယုံကြည်နိုင်မည်နည်း။If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?

13ကောင်းကင်ဘုံမှ ကြွဆင်းလာသော လူသားမှတစ်ပါး တစ်စုံတစ်ယောက်မျှ ကောင်းကင်ဘုံသို့ မရောက်ဖူးကြ” ဟု ဆို၏။No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.

14မောသျှေသည် တောကန္တာရ၌ ကြီးဝါမြွီရုပ်ကို တိုင်ထက်မှာ ဆွဲထားသကဲ့သို့ လူသားသည်လည်း ဆွဲထားခြင်းကို ခံရလိမ့်မည်။Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

15အကြောင်းမူကား၊ ထိုသူအား ယုံကြည်သောသူ အပေါင်းရို့သည် ထာဝရအသက်ကို ရစီရန် ဖြစ်၏။that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life.

16ဘုရားသခင်သည် လောကသားရို့ကို လွန်စွာချစ်တော်မူသဖြင့် မိမိ၌ တစ်ပါးတည်းသောသားတော်ကို ပီးတော်မူ၏။ အကြောင်းမူကား ထိုသားတော်ကို ယုံကြည်သော သူရို့သည် ပျက်စီးခြင်းသို့ မရောက်ဘဲ ထာဝရအသက်ကို ရစီခြင်းငှာဖြစ်၏။For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

17ဘုရားသခင်သည် မိမိ၏သားတော်အား လောကသို့ စီရွှတ်တော်မူသည်မှာ အပြစ်စီရင်ခြင်းငှာ မဟုတ်။ လောကသားရို့အား ကယ်တင်ခြင်းငှာ ဖြစ်သတည်း။For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

18ထိုသားတော်ကို ယုံကြည်သောသူ အပေါင်းရို့သည် အပြစ်စီရင်ခြင်းကို မခံရ။ သို့သော်လည်း မယုံကြည်သော သူရို့မူကား ဘုရားသခင်၌ တစ်ပါးတည်းသော သားတော်ကို မယုံကြည်သောကြောင့် အဂုပင် အပြစ်စီရင်ခြင်းကို ခံရလျက်ဟိ၏။Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

19တရားစီရင်ခြင်းကား ဤသို့ဖြစ်၏။ အလင်းသည် ဤလောကထဲသို့ ကြွလာ၏။ သို့သော် လူတိကား အလင်းထက် အမှောင်ကို သာ၍ နှစ်သက်ကြ၏။ အကြောင်းမူကား သူရို့၏ အကျင့်သီလသည် ဆိုးယုတ်သောကြောင့်ဖြစ်၏။And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light because their deeds were evil.

20မကောင်းမှုကို ပြုသောသူအပေါင်းရို့သည် အလင်းကို မုန်းကြ၏။ ထိုသူရို့သည် အလင်းသို့ လာကြလိမ့်မည် မဟုတ်။ အကြောင်းမူကား သူရို့၏ မကောင်းသောအကျင့် ပေါ်လားမည်ကို အလိုမဟိကြ။Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

21သို့ပင်သျှောင်လည်း သမ္မာတရားကို ကျင့်သောသူရို့မူကား မိမိရို့ကျင့်သော တရားသည် ဘုရားသခင်၏အလိုတော်နှင့် ညီသည်ကို ထင်ရှားစီခြင်းငှာ အလင်းသို့ လာကြ၏ဟု မိန့်တော်မူ၏။But whoever practices the truth comes into the Light, so that it may be seen clearly that what he has done has been accomplished in God.”

22ထိုသို့ မိန့်တော်မူပြီးနောက် ယေသျှုနှင့် တပည့်တော် ရို့သည် ယုဒအရပ်ဒေသသို့ ကြွတော်မူ၏။ ကိုယ်တော်သည် သူရို့နှင့်အတူ ထိုအရပ်၌ နီတော်မူပြီးလျှင် ဗတ္တိဇံမင်္ဂလာကို ပီးလေ၏။After this, Jesus and His disciples went into the Judean countryside, where He spent some time with them and baptized.

23ယောဟန်သည်လည်း ယှာလိန်မြို့နှင့်မဝီးသော အဲနုန်အရပ်တွင် ဗတ္တိဇံပီးလျက် နိန်၏။ အကြောင်းမူကား ထိုအရပ်၌ ရီပေါသီစွာ ဟိသောကြောင့်ဖြစ်၏။ လူအပေါင်းရို့သည် ယောဟန်ပါးသို့ လာကြပြီးလျှင် ဗတ္တိဇံမင်္ဂလာကို ခံယူကြ၏။Now John was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because the water was plentiful there, and people kept coming to be baptized.

24(ထိုအချိန်၌ ယောဟန်သည် အကျဉ်းမကျသိမ့်ပေ။)(For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)

25ယောဟန်၏ တပည့်တချို့နှင့် ယုဒလူမျိုးတစ်ယောက်သည် ဘာသာတရားနှင့်ဆိုင်သော သန့်ယှင်းခြင်းအကြောင်းကို ဆွေးနွေးငြင်းခုံနိန်ကြ၏။Then a dispute arose between John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the issue of ceremonial washing.

26ထို့ကြောင့် သူရို့သည် ယောဟန်ပါးသို့ လာ၍ “ဆရာ၊ ယော်ဒန်မြစ် အရှိ့ဖက်ကမ်းမှာ ဆရာနှင့်အတူ နီခဖူးသော သူတစ်ယောက်ကို မှတ်မိပါသလော။ ထိုသူ၏အကြောင်းကို ဆရာပြောပြခဖူး၏။ ထိုသူသည် အဂု လူတိကို ဗတ္တိဇံပီးနိန်ယာ။ လူတိလည်း ထိုသူ့ထံသို့ လားနိန်ကြယာ” ဟု လျှောက်ကြ၏။So John’s disciples came to him and said, “Look, Rabbi, the One who was with you beyond the Jordan, the One you testified about—He is baptizing, and everyone is going to Him.”

27ယောဟန်ကလည်း “ဘုရားသခင် ပီးတော်မမူလျှင် လူသည် ဇာတစ်ခုကိုမျှ မခံမယူနိုင်။John replied, “A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.

28ငါကား မေသျှိယ မဟုတ်။ သို့သော် ထိုအသျှင်၏ ရှိ့ဗြီးသာ ဖြစ်၏။ ထိုသို့ဖြစ်ကြောင်းကို ငါပြောသမျှဖြင့် သင်ရို့ကိုယ်တိုင် ငါ၏ သက်သီခံဖြစ်ကြ၏။You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but am sent ahead of Him.’

29မင်္ဂလာဆောင်သတို့သမီးကို ပိုင်ဆိုင်သည့်လူကား မင်္ဂလာဆောင်သတို့သားဖြစ်၏။ သတို့သား၏ မိတ်ဆွီကား ရပ်လျက် နားထောင်ပြီး နိန်၏။ သတို့သား၏အသံကို ကြားသောအခါ အလွန်ဝမ်းမြောက်သကဲ့သို့ ငါသည်လည်း ဝမ်းမြောက်ခြင်းနှင့် ပြည့်လေ၏။The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom stands and listens for him, and is overjoyed to hear the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

30ထိုအသျှင်သည် တိုးပွားခြင်း ဟိရမည်။ ငါမူကား ဆုတ်ယုတ်ခြင်း ဟိရမည်” ဟု ဆို၏။He must increase; I must decrease.

31အထက်မှ ကြွလာသောသူကား အလုံးစုံတိထက် ကြီးမြတ်သောသူဖြစ်၏။ မြီကြီးမှ လာသောသူသည် မြီကြီးနှင့်သာဆိုင်၏။ ထိုသူသည်လည်း မြီကြီးအကြောင်းကိုသာ ပြောတတ်၏။ သို့သော်လည်း ကောင်းကင်မှ လာသောသူကား အရာအားလုံးထက် ကြီးမြတ်သောသူဖြစ်၏။The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all.

32ထိုသူသည် မိမိမြင်ခသမျှ၊ ကြားခသမျှကို ဟောပြော၏၊ သို့ရာတွင် ဇာသူမျှ ထိုသူ၏ သက်သီခံချက်တိကို လက်မခံကြ။He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony.

33သို့သော် ထိုအသျှင်၏ သက်သီခံချက်များကို လက်ခံယုံကြည်သမျှသော သူရို့သည် ဘုရားသခင်သည် သစ္စာသျှင် ဖြစ်ကြောင်းကို သက်သီခံသောသူတိ ဖြစ်ကြ၏။Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful.

34ဘုရားသခင် စီရွှတ်တော်မူသောသူသည် ဘုရားသခင်၏ နှုတ်ကပတ်တော်များကို ပြောဆိုတတ်၏။ အကြောင်းမူကား ဘုရားသခင်သည် ထိုသူအား ဝိညာဉ်တော်ကို ပြည့်ဝစွာ ပီးတော်မူသောကြောင့်ဖြစ်၏။For the One whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

35ခမည်းတော်သည် မိမိသားတော်ကို ချစ်တော်မူသောကြောင့် ခပ်သိမ်းသော တန်ခိုးအာဏာကို သားတော်၌ ပီးအပ်လေ၏။The Father loves the Son and has placed all things in His hands.

36ထိုသားတော်ကို ယုံကြည်လက်ခံသောသူသည် ထာဝရအသက်ကို ရ၏။ သားတော်ကို မယုံကြည်သောသူမူကား အသက်ကိုမရဘဲ ဘုရားသခင်၏ အမျက်တော်အောက်၌ နိန်သောသူ ဖြစ်၏။Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”
