1 GLT And it happened when David was living in his house, and David said to Nathan the prophet,“Behold, I am living in a house of cedars, but the Box of the covenant of Yahweh is under curtains.” BSB BSB: After David had settled into his palace, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under a tent.”
2 GLT And Nathan said to David,“All which is in your heart, do, for God is with you.” BSB BSB: And Nathan replied to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”
3 GLT And it happened in that night, and the word of God came to Nathan, saying, BSB BSB: But that night the word of God came to Nathan, saying,
4 GLT “Go and say to David my servant,‘Thus says Yahweh: You yourself shall not build for me a house in which to live, BSB BSB: “Go and tell My servant David that this is what the LORD says: You are not the one to build Me a house in which to dwell.
5 GLT for I have not lived in a house from the day that I brought up Israel until this day, but I have been from tent to tent, and from a tabernacle. BSB BSB: For I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought Israel up out of Egypt until this day, but I have moved from tent to tent and dwelling to dwelling.
6 GLT In all where I have walked back and forth among all Israel, what word did I speak to one of the judges of Israel whom I commanded to shepherd my people, saying,“Why have you all not built for me a house of cedars?”’ BSB BSB: In all My journeys with all the Israelites, have I ever asked any of the leaders I appointed to shepherd My people, ‘Why haven’t you built Me a house of cedar?’
7 GLT And now, thus you shall say to my servant, to David,‘Thus says Yahweh of Hosts: I myself took you from the pasture, from behind sheep, to be a leader over my people Israel. BSB BSB: Now then, you are to tell My servant David that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: I took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be the ruler over My people Israel.
8 GLT And I have been with you in all where you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before your face, and I will make for you a name, like a name of the great ones who are on the earth. BSB BSB: I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make for you a name like that of the greatest in the land.
9 GLT And I will set a place for my people Israel, and I will plant them, and they will settle on it, and they will not tremble again. And the sons of injustice will not continue to trouble them, just as at the first, BSB BSB: And I will provide a place for My people Israel and will plant them so that they may dwell in a place of their own and be disturbed no more. No longer will the sons of wickedness oppress them as they did at the beginning
10 GLT and from the days that I commanded judges over my people Israel. And I will humble all your enemies. And I declare to you that a house Yahweh will build for you. BSB BSB: and have done since the day I appointed judges over My people Israel. And I will subdue all your enemies. Moreover, I declare to you that the LORD will build a house for you.
11 GLT And it will be when your days are fulfilled, to walk with your fathers, then I will raise up your seed after you who will be from your sons, and I will establish his kingdom. BSB BSB: And when your days are fulfilled and you go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom.
12 GLT He himself will build for me a house, and I will establish his throne as far as forever. BSB BSB: He will build a house for Me, and I will establish his throne forever.
13 GLT I myself will be to him a father, and he himself will be to me a son. And my covenant faithfulness I will not take away from with him, as I took away from who was before your face. BSB BSB: I will be his Father, and he will be My son. And I will never remove My loving devotion from him as I removed it from your predecessor.
14 GLT And I will set him up in my house and in my kingdom as far as forever, and his throne will be established as far as forever.’” BSB BSB: But I will set him over My house and My kingdom forever, and his throne will be established forever.”
15 GLT According to all these words and according to all this vision, thus Nathan spoke to David. BSB BSB: So Nathan relayed to David all the words of this entire revelation.
16 GLT Then the king David went in and sat before the face of Yahweh; and he said,“Who am I, Yahweh God, and what is my house, that you have brought me as far as here? BSB BSB: Then King David went in, sat before the LORD, and said, “Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that You have brought me this far?
17 GLT And a small thing was this in your eyes, God, and you have spoken regarding the house of your servant from a distance; and you have seen me as an appearance of the man moving upwards, Yahweh God. BSB BSB: And as if this was a small thing in Your eyes, O God, You have spoken about the future of the house of Your servant and have regarded me as a man of great distinction, O LORD God.
18 GLT What more can David still say to you about honoring your servant. And you, your servant you know. BSB BSB: What more can David say to You for honoring Your servant? For You know Your servant,
19 GLT Yahweh, for the sake of your servant and according to your heart, you have done all this greatness to make known all the greatnesses. BSB BSB: O LORD. For the sake of Your servant and according to Your own heart, You have accomplished this great thing and made known all these great promises.
20 GLT Yahweh, there is none like you, and no God except you, in all which we have heard with our ears. BSB BSB: O LORD, there is none like You, and there is no God but You, according to everything we have heard with our own ears.
21 GLT And who is like your people Israel, one nation on the earth whom God went to ransom for himself a people, to set for you a name great and to be feared, to drive out nations from the faces of your people whom you ransomed from Egypt? BSB BSB: And who is like Your people Israel—the one nation on earth whom God went out to redeem as a people for Himself? You made a name for Yourself through great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before Your people, whom You redeemed from Egypt.
22 GLT And you made your people Israel for yourself a people as far as forever, and you, Yahweh, became to them God. BSB BSB: For You have made Your people Israel Your very own forever, and You, O LORD, have become their God.
23 GLT And now, Yahweh, the word which you spoke concerning your servant and concerning his house, may it be confirmed as far as forever, and do just as you have spoken. BSB BSB: And now, O LORD, let the word You have spoken concerning Your servant and his house be established forever. Do as You have promised,
24 GLT And may it be confirmed and may your name be great as far as forever, saying,‘Yahweh of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God to Israel,’ and the house of David your servant established before your face. BSB BSB: so that Your name will be established and magnified forever when it is said, ‘The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, is God over Israel.’ And may the house of Your servant David be established before You.
25 GLT For you, my God, have uncovered the ear of your servant to build for him a house; therefore your servant has found to pray before your face. BSB BSB: For You, my God, have revealed to Your servant that You will build a house for him. Therefore Your servant has found the courage to pray before You.
26 GLT And now, Yahweh, you are God, and you have spoken concerning your servant this good. BSB BSB: And now, O LORD, You are God! And You have promised this goodness to Your servant.
27 GLT And now, you have decided to bless the house of your servant, to be forever before your face. For you, Yahweh, have blessed, and it is blessed forever.” BSB BSB: So now You have been pleased to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue forever before You. For You, O LORD, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”
