2 GLT according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by sanctification of the Spirit for obedience and the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace and peace be multiplied to you. 5 GLT the ones being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. BSB BSB: who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
6 GLT In this you greatly rejoice, if now being necessary, having been distressed a little{ while} in various trials BSB BSB: In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials
7 GLT so that the genuineness of your faith— more precious than perishing gold, but being tested by fire— might be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ, BSB BSB: so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8 GLT whom, not having seen, you love; in whom, not seeing{ him} now, but believing, you exult with joy inexpressible and filled with glory, BSB BSB: Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
9 GLT receiving for yourselves the outcome of your faith, salvation of your souls. BSB BSB: now that you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 GLT The prophets searched and inquired carefully about this salvation, having prophesied about this grace for you, BSB BSB: Concerning this salvation, the prophets who foretold the grace to come to you searched and investigated carefully,
11 GLT inquiring into whom or what time the Spirit of Christ in them was revealing, testifying beforehand{ about} the sufferings of Christ and the glories after these things. BSB BSB: trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow.
12 GLT It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you,{ in} these things which now were declared to you by the ones who proclaimed the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit having been sent from heaven— into which things angels desire to look. BSB BSB: It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.
13 GLT Therefore, having girded up the loins of your mind, being sober, hope fully in the grace being brought to you in the revelation of Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14 GLT As children of obedience, not being conformed to your former desires in your ignorance, BSB BSB: As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance.
15 GLT but as the one having called you{ is} holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your behavior. BSB BSB: But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do,
16 GLT For it is written,“You will be holy, because I{ am} holy.” BSB BSB: for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
17 GLT And if you call“Father” the one judging impartially according to the work of each one, conduct yourselves in fear{ during} the time of your sojourn, BSB BSB: Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your stay as foreigners.
18 GLT knowing that you have been redeemed not with perishable things, with silver or with gold, from your futile behavior handed down from your fathers, BSB BSB: For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers,
19 GLT but with the precious blood of Christ, as of an unblemished and spotless lamb, BSB BSB: but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot.
21 GLT those through him believing in God, who has raised him from dead ones and has given him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. BSB BSB: Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.
22 GLT Having purified your souls by the obedience to the truth for sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, BSB BSB: Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.
23 GLT having been born again, not from perishable seed, but from imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. BSB BSB: For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
25 GLT but the word of the Lord endures into eternity.” And this is the word that has been proclaimed to you. BSB BSB: but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you.
