1 GLT And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel. BSB BSB: Asa’s son Jehoshaphat reigned in his place, and he strengthened himself against Israel.
2 GLT And he placed a force in all the unassailable cities of Judah, and he placed garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had captured. BSB BSB: He stationed troops in every fortified city of Judah and put garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.
3 GLT And Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the first ways of David his father, and he did not seek the Baals. BSB BSB: Now the LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he walked in the earlier ways of his father David. He did not seek the Baals,
4 GLT Instead, the God of his father he sought, and in his commandments he walked and not according to the work of Israel. BSB BSB: but he sought the God of his father and walked by His commandments rather than the practices of Israel.
5 GLT And Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah gave tribute to Jehoshaphat. And there was to him wealth and glory in abundance. BSB BSB: So the LORD established the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah brought him tribute, so that he had an abundance of riches and honor.
6 GLT And his heart was high in the ways of Yahweh. And also, he took away the high places and the Asherim from Judah. BSB BSB: And his heart took delight in the ways of the LORD; furthermore, he removed the high places and Asherah poles from Judah.
7 GLT And in the third year of his reign he sent his chiefs, Ben- Hail, and Obadiah, and Zechariah, and Nethanel, and Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah. BSB BSB: In the third year of his reign, Jehoshaphat sent his officials Ben-hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel, and Micaiah to teach in the cities of Judah,
8 GLT And with them the Levites: Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob- Adonijah, the Levites; and with them, Elishama and Jehoram, the priests. BSB BSB: accompanied by certain Levites—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah—along with the priests Elishama and Jehoram.
9 GLT And they taught in Judah, and with them, the scroll of the law of Yahweh. And they went around in all the cities of Judah, and they taught among the people. BSB BSB: They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law of the LORD. They went throughout the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 GLT And the dread of Yahweh was on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, and they did not fight with Jehoshaphat. BSB BSB: And the dread of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that surrounded Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.
11 GLT And some of the Philistines were bringing to Jehoshaphat tribute, and a silver load. Also, the Arabians were bringing to him flocks, 7, 700 rams and 7, 700 goats. BSB BSB: Some Philistines also brought gifts and silver as tribute to Jehoshaphat, and the Arabs brought him 7,700 rams and 7,700 goats from their flocks.
12 GLT And it happened Jehoshaphat was walking and becoming increasingly great. And he built in Judah palaces and cities of stores. BSB BSB: Jehoshaphat grew stronger and stronger, and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah
13 GLT And much work was to him in the cities of Judah, and men of battle, mighty ones of strength in Jerusalem. BSB BSB: and kept vast supplies in the cities of Judah. He also had warriors in Jerusalem who were mighty men of valor.
14 GLT And these were their mustering according to the house of their fathers: for Judah, chiefs of thousands, Adnah the chief, and with him mighty ones of strength, 300, 000; BSB BSB: These are their numbers according to the houses of their fathers: From Judah, the commanders of thousands: Adnah the commander, and with him 300,000 mighty men of valor;
15 GLT and on his hand, Jehohanan the chief and with him 280, 000; BSB BSB: next to him, Jehohanan the commander, and with him 280,000;
16 GLT and on his hand Amasiah the son of Zichri, who freely offered himself to Yahweh, and with him 200, 000 mighty ones of strength. BSB BSB: and next to him, Amasiah son of Zichri, the volunteer for the LORD, and with him 200,000 mighty men of valor.
17 GLT And from Benjamin: a mighty one of strength, Eliada, and with him, ones armed with bow and shield, 200, 000; BSB BSB: From Benjamin: Eliada, a mighty man of valor, and with him 200,000 armed with bows and shields;
18 GLT and on his hand, Jehozabad and with him 180, 000 equipped for war. BSB BSB: and next to him, Jehozabad, and with him 180,000 armed for battle.
19 GLT These ministered to the king, besides those whom the king placed in the cities of fortification in all Judah. BSB BSB: These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities throughout Judah.
