1 GLT Now about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering to him, we ask you, brothers, BSB BSB: Now concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to Him, we ask you, brothers,
2 GLT for you not to be quickly shaken in your mind and not to be troubled neither by a spirit nor by a word nor by a letter as if from us, as if the day of the Lord has already come. BSB BSB: not to be easily disconcerted or alarmed by any spirit or message or letter seeming to be from us, alleging that the Day of the Lord has already come.
3 GLT May no one deceive you in any way, for unless the apostacy comes first and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, BSB BSB: Let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness—the son of destruction—is revealed.
4 GLT the one opposing and exalting himself against everything being called god or an object of worship. As a result, he himself sits in the temple of God, showing that he himself is God. BSB BSB: He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
5 GLT Do you not remember that, still being with you, I was telling you these things? BSB BSB: Do you not remember that I told you these things while I was still with you?
6 GLT And now you know the one restraining{ him}, until his revealing in his time. BSB BSB: And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
7 GLT For the mystery of lawlessness is already working, only the one restraining{ him} now will do so until he comes out of the way, BSB BSB: For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way.
8 GLT and then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth, and will bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming, BSB BSB: And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.
9 GLT the arrival of whom is according to a work of Satan in all power and signs and false wonders BSB BSB: The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder,
10 GLT and in all deceit of unrighteousness to the ones perishing, because of which they did not receive the love of the truth for them to be saved. BSB BSB: and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them.
11 GLT And because of this, God is sending to them a working of error for them to believe the lie BSB BSB: For this reason God will send them a powerful delusion so that they believe the lie,
12 GLT so that they might all be judged, the ones not having believed the truth, but having taken pleasure in the unrighteousness. BSB BSB: in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
13 GLT Now we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers having been loved by the Lord. For God chose you{ as} firstfruits for salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth. BSB BSB: But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth.
14 GLT He called you to this through our gospel, to the acquiring of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: To this He called you through our gospel, so that you may share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
16 GLT Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave{ us} eternal comfort and good hope through grace, BSB BSB: Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who by grace has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope,
17 GLT may he comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word. BSB BSB: encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and deed.
