1После этих событий, когда утих гнев царя Артаксеркса, он вспомнил об Астинь и о том, что она сделала, и о том, что было решено против неё.Some time later, when the anger of King Xerxes had subsided, he remembered Vashti and what she had done, and what had been decreed against her.

2И сказали молодые слуги царя, служившие ему:«Пусть поищут для царя молодых девственниц приятной внешности,Then the king’s attendants proposed, “Let a search be made for beautiful young virgins for the king,

3и пусть назначит царь наблюдателей в каждой области своего царства, и пусть они соберут всех молодых девственниц приятной внешности в Сузы, крепость, в дом женщин, в подчинение Гегая— царского евнуха, смотрителя женщин. И пусть дадут им притиранья,and let the king appoint commissioners in each province of his kingdom to assemble all the beautiful young women into the harem at the citadel of Susa. Let them be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s eunuch in charge of the women, and let them be given beauty treatments.

4и девушка, которая будет хороша в глазах царя, станет царицей вместо Астинь». И хорошо было это слово в глазах царя, и он так и сделал.Then let the young woman who pleases the king become queen in place of Vashti.” This suggestion pleased the king, and he acted accordingly.

5В Сузах, крепости, был один человек, иудей, и имя его Мардохей, сын Иаира, сын Семея, сын Киса- вениамитянин,Now there was at the citadel of Susa a Jewish man from the tribe of Benjamin named Mordecai son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish.

6который был переселён из Иерусалима с пленниками, которые были переселены с Иехонией, царём Иуды, которых переселил Навуходоносор, царь Вавилона.He had been carried into exile from Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon among those taken captive with Jeconiah king of Judah.

7И он был воспитателем Гадассы, она же Есфирь, дочь его дяди, так как не было у неё отца и матери, и у этой девушки была красивая фигура и приятная внешность, и после смерти её отца и матери взял её Мардохей себе как дочь.And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah (that is, Esther), the daughter of his uncle, because she did not have a father or mother. The young woman was lovely in form and appearance, and when her father and mother had died, Mordecai had taken her as his own daughter.

8И было: когда объявили приказ царя и его указание, и когда были собраны многие девушки в Сузы, крепость, в подчинение Гегая, тогда взяли Есфирь в дом царя в подчинение Гегая, смотрителя женщин.When the king’s command and edict had been proclaimed, many young women gathered at the citadel of Susa under the care of Hegai. Esther was also taken to the palace and placed under the care of Hegai, the custodian of the women.

9И была хороша эта девушка в его глазах, и приобрела у него расположение, и он поспешил выдать ей её притиранья и её часть, и семь служанок, достойных дал ей, из дома царя, и он переместил её и её служанок в лучшую часть дома женщин.And the young woman pleased him and obtained his favor, so he quickly provided her with beauty treatments and the special diet. He assigned to her seven select maidservants from the palace and transferred her with them to the best place in the harem.

10Есфирь не говорила о своём народе и о своём родстве, потому что Мардохей приказал ей, чтобы не говорила.Esther did not reveal her people or her lineage, because Mordecai had instructed her not to do so.

11И каждый день Мардохей приходил ко двору дома женщин, чтобы узнать о здоровье Есфири и о том, что с ней происходит.And every day Mordecai would walk back and forth in front of the court of the harem to learn about Esther’s welfare and what was happening to her.

12И когда наступала очередь каждой девушки входить к царю Артаксерксу по окончании выполнения ею установления для женщин двенадцать месяцев, ведь так исполнялись дни их притиранья: шесть месяцев маслом мирра и шесть месяцев ароматами и женскими притираньями,In the twelve months before her turn to go to King Xerxes, the harem regulation required each young woman to receive beauty treatments with oil of myrrh for six months, and then with perfumes and cosmetics for another six months.

13и тогда девушка входила к царю. Всё, что она требовала, давалось ей, чтобы она взяла с собой из дома женщин в дом царя.When the young woman would go to the king, she was given whatever she requested to take with her from the harem to the king’s palace.

14Вечером она входила, а утром она возвращалась в другой дом женщин, к рукам Шаазгаза, евнуха царя, смотрителя наложниц. Она больше не входила к царю, разве что если царь желал её и её вызывали по имени.She would go there in the evening, and in the morning she would return to a second harem under the care of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch in charge of the concubines. She would not return to the king unless he delighted in her and summoned her by name.

15И когда настала очередь Есфири, дочери Абихаила, дяди Мардохея, который взял её к себе как дочь, идти к царю, она не просила ничего, кроме того, о чём ей сказал Гегай, евнух царя, смотритель женщин. И приобрела Есфирь расположение в глазах всех видящих её.Now Esther was the daughter of Abihail, the uncle from whom Mordecai had adopted her as his own daughter. And when it was her turn to go to the king, she did not ask for anything except what Hegai, the king’s trusted official in charge of the harem, had advised. And Esther found favor in the eyes of everyone who saw her.

16И была взята Есфирь к царю Артаксерксу, в дом его царства, в десятом месяце, он же месяц Тебеф, на седьмом году его царствования.She was taken to King Xerxes in the royal palace in the tenth month, the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

17И полюбил царь Есфирь больше всех жён, и она приобрела расположение и милость у него больше всех девственниц, и он надел ей на голову корону царства и сделал её царицей вместо Астини.And the king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she found grace and favor in his sight more than all of the other virgins. So he placed the royal crown upon her head and made her queen in place of Vashti.

18И сделал царь большой пир для всех своих правителей и слуг— пир Есфири! И он сделал покой областям и раздал подарки царской рукой.Then the king held a great banquet, Esther’s banquet, for all his officials and servants. He proclaimed a tax holiday in the provinces and gave gifts worthy of the king’s bounty.

19И когда собрали девственниц второй раз, а Мардохей сидел у ворот царя,When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate.

20Есфирь не рассказывала о своём родстве и о своём народе, как приказал ей Мардохей, а слова Мардохея Есфирь выполняла так же, как и тогда, когда была у него на воспитании.Esther still had not revealed her lineage or her people, just as Mordecai had instructed. She obeyed Mordecai’s command, as she had done under his care.

21В те дни, когда Мардохей сидел у ворот царя, озлобились Гавафа и Фарра, два царских евнуха из оберегавших порог, и задумали наложить руки на царя Артаксеркса.In those days, while Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs who guarded the entrance, grew angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes.

22И стало известным это дело Мардохею, и сообщил он Есфири, царице, а Есфирь сказала царю от имени Мардохея.When Mordecai learned of the plot, he reported it to Queen Esther, and she informed the king on Mordecai’s behalf.

23И было расследовано это дело, и было обнаружено, и они оба были повешены на дереве, и это было записано в книгу хроники дней у царя.After the report had been investigated and verified, both officials were hanged on the gallows. And all this was recorded in the Book of the Chronicles in the presence of the king.
