GLT Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an Egyptian man, an official of Pharaoh, the chief of the guards, had bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. BSB BSB: Meanwhile, Joseph had been taken down to Egypt, where an Egyptian named Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.
GLT And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a successful man, and he was in the house of his Egyptian master. BSB BSB: And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man, serving in the household of his Egyptian master.
GLT And his master saw that Yahweh{ was} with him and{ that} Yahweh made all that he was doing successful in his hand. BSB BSB: When his master saw that the LORD was with him and made him prosper in all he did,
GLT So Joseph found favor in his eyes, and he served him. And he put him in charge over his house and gave into his hand all{ that} was his. BSB BSB: Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household and entrusted him with everything he owned.
GLT And it happened from the time he put him in charge in his house and over all that was his, then Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian because of Joseph. So the blessing of Yahweh was on all that was his, in the house and in the fields. BSB BSB: From the time that he put Joseph in charge of his household and all he owned, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s household on account of him. The LORD’s blessing was on everything he owned, both in his house and in his field.
GLT And he left all that{ belonged} to him in the hand of Joseph, and he did not think to himself{ about} anything except for the bread that he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and handsome in appearance. BSB BSB: So Potiphar left all that he owned in Joseph’s care; he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate. Now Joseph was well-built and handsome,
GLT And it happened after those things, then the wife of his master lifted her eyes toward Joseph and said,“Lie with me!” BSB BSB: and after some time his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph and said, “Sleep with me.”
GLT But he refused and said to the wife of his master,“Behold, with me{ here}, my master does not think{ about} what{ is} in the house, and all that is his he has given into my hand. BSB BSB: But he refused. “Look,” he said to his master’s wife, “with me here, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has entrusted everything he owns to my care.
GLT He is not greater than me in this house, and he has not withheld anything from me except for you, because you{ are} his wife. So how can I do this great evil, and sin against God?” BSB BSB: No one in this house is greater than I am. He has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. So how could I do such a great evil and sin against God?”
GLT Then it happened even though she kept speaking to Joseph day{ after} day, yet he did not listen to her to lie beside her, to be with her. BSB BSB: Although Potiphar’s wife spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her or even be near her.
GLT Then it happened on such a day that he went into the house to do his work, and there were no other men of the house there in the house. BSB BSB: One day, however, Joseph went into the house to attend to his work, and not a single household servant was inside.
GLT So she caught him by his garment, saying,“Lie with me!” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and went outside. BSB BSB: She grabbed Joseph by his cloak and said, “Sleep with me!” But leaving his cloak in her hand, he escaped and ran outside.
GLT Then it happened when she saw that he had left his garment in her hands and had fled outside, BSB BSB: When she saw that he had left his cloak in her hand and had run out of the house,
GLT then she called for the men of her house and said to them, saying,“Look! He brought to us a Hebrew man to laugh at us! He came to me to lie with me, but I called out with a loud voice! BSB BSB: she called her household servants. “Look,” she said, “this Hebrew has been brought to us to make sport of us. He came to me so he could sleep with me, but I screamed as loud as I could.
GLT Then it happened when he heard that I raised my voice and called out, then he left his garment beside me and fled and went outside!” BSB BSB: When he heard me scream for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
GLT Then she kept his garment beside her until his master came to his house. BSB BSB: So Potiphar’s wife kept Joseph’s cloak beside her until his master came home.
GLT Then she spoke to him according to those words, saying,“The Hebrew slave whom you brought to us came to me to laugh at me! BSB BSB: Then she told him the same story: “The Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me,
GLT Then it happened when I raised my voice and called out, then he left his garment beside me and fled outside!” BSB BSB: but when I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”
GLT And it happened when his master heard the words of his wife that she spoke to him, saying,“Such{ are} the things your slave did to me!” then his anger burned. BSB BSB: When his master heard the story his wife told him, saying, “This is what your slave did to me,” he burned with anger.
GLT Then Joseph’ s master took him and put him in the round- house, the place where the prisoners of the king were bound. So he was there in the round- house, BSB BSB: So Joseph’s master took him and had him thrown into the prison where the king’s prisoners were confined. While Joseph was there in the prison,
GLT but Yahweh was with Joseph and showed kindness to him and gave him favor in the eyes of the chief of the round- house. BSB BSB: the LORD was with him and extended kindness to him, granting him favor in the eyes of the prison warden.
GLT And the chief of the round- house gave into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who{ were} in the round- house, and all that they were doing there, he was{ the one} doing{ it}. BSB BSB: And the warden put all the prisoners under Joseph’s care, so that he was responsible for all that was done in the prison.
GLT The chief of the round- house did not look{ at} anything in his hand, because Yahweh was with him, and Yahweh made what he was doing successful. BSB BSB: The warden did not concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
