GLT Then Joseph went and reported to Pharaoh and said,“My father and my brothers and their flock{ s} and their herd{ s} and all that{ belongs} to them have come from the land of Canaan, and behold, they{ are} in the land of Goshen.” BSB BSB: So Joseph went and told Pharaoh: “My father and my brothers, with their flocks and herds and all they own, have come from the land of Canaan and are now in Goshen.”
GLT Then he took five men from among his brothers, and he presented them before Pharaoh. BSB BSB: And he chose five of his brothers and presented them before Pharaoh.
GLT Then Pharaoh said to his brothers,“What{ is} your work?” And they said to Pharaoh,“Your servants{ are} herders of sheep, both we and our fathers.” BSB BSB: “What is your occupation?” Pharaoh asked Joseph’s brothers. “Your servants are shepherds,” they replied, “both we and our fathers.”
GLT Then they said to Pharaoh,“We have come to sojourn in the land, because there is not pasture for the flock{ s} that{ belong} to your servants, because the famine{ is} heavy in the land of Canaan. So now, please let your servants settle in the land of Goshen.” BSB BSB: Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live in the land for a time, because there is no pasture for the flocks of your servants, since the famine in the land of Canaan has been severe. So now, please allow your servants to settle in the land of Goshen.”
GLT Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, saying,“Your father and your brothers have come to you. BSB BSB: Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Now that your father and brothers have come to you,
GLT The land of Egypt{ is} before you. Settle your father and your brothers in the best land; let them settle in the land of Goshen. And if you know that there are men of ability among them, then appoint them overseers of livestock over{ those} that{ belong} to me.” BSB BSB: the land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and brothers in the best part of the land. They may dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know of any talented men among them, put them in charge of my own livestock.”
GLT Then Joseph brought Jacob his father and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh. BSB BSB: Then Joseph brought in his father Jacob and presented him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
GLT Then Pharaoh said to Jacob,“How many{ are} the days of the years of your life?” BSB BSB: “How many years have you lived?” Pharaoh asked.
GLT And Jacob said to Pharaoh,“The days of the years of my sojournings{ are} 130 years. The days of the years of my life have been few and difficult, and they have not reached the days of the years of my fathers’ lives in the days of their sojournings.” BSB BSB: “My travels have lasted 130 years,” Jacob replied. “My years have been few and hard, and they have not matched the years of the travels of my fathers.”
GLT Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and left from the presence of Pharaoh. BSB BSB: Then Jacob blessed Pharaoh and departed from his presence.
GLT And Joseph provided his father and his brothers and all the household of his father{ with} bread, according to the mouth{ s} of the little ones. 47:13-26 BSB BSB: Joseph also provided his father and brothers and all his father’s household with food for their families.
GLT Now there was no bread in all the earth, because the famine{ was} very heavy, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan were languishing because of the famine. BSB BSB: There was no food, however, in all that region, because the famine was so severe; the lands of Egypt and Canaan had been exhausted by the famine.
GLT And Joseph collected all the silver that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they were buying, and Joseph brought the silver to the house of Pharaoh. BSB BSB: Joseph collected all the money to be found in the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan in exchange for the grain they were buying, and he brought it into Pharaoh’s palace.
GLT So the silver was consumed from the land of Egypt and from the land of Canaan, and all Egypt came to Joseph, saying,“Give us bread! And why should we die before you? For the silver is gone!” BSB BSB: When the money from the lands of Egypt and Canaan was gone, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? For our funds have run out!”
GLT And Joseph said,“Bring your livestock and I will give{ grain} to you{ in exchange} for your livestock, since the silver is gone.” BSB BSB: “Then bring me your livestock,” said Joseph. “Since the money is gone, I will sell you food in exchange for your livestock.”
GLT So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave bread to them{ in exchange} for the horses and for the herd{ s} of sheep and for the herd{ s} of cattle and for the donkeys. So he provided them with bread in that year{ in exchange} for all their livestock. BSB BSB: So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and he gave them food in exchange for their horses, their flocks and herds, and their donkeys. Throughout that year he provided them with food in exchange for all their livestock.
GLT And{ when} that year had ended, then they came to him in the second year and said to him,“We cannot hide{ it} from my lord that since the silver is consumed and the herd{ s} of livestock{ belong} to my lord, there is nothing left before my lord except our bodies and our lands. BSB BSB: When that year was over, they came to him the second year and said, “We cannot hide from our lord that our money is gone and all our livestock belongs to you. There is nothing left for our lord except our bodies and our land.
GLT Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land{ in exchange} for the bread, and we and our land will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give{ us} seed so that we will live and not die, and the land will not be desolate!” BSB BSB: Why should we perish before your eyes—we and our land as well? Purchase us and our land in exchange for food. Then we, along with our land, will be slaves to Pharaoh. Give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not become desolate.”
GLT Then Joseph bought all the{ farm} land of Egypt for Pharaoh, because every Egyptian sold his field, because the famine was heavy for them. So the land became Pharaoh’ s. BSB BSB: So Joseph acquired for Pharaoh all the land in Egypt; the Egyptians, one and all, sold their fields because the famine was so severe upon them. The land became Pharaoh’s,
GLT And{ as for} the people, he moved them to the cities from{ one} end of the border of Egypt to its{ other} end. BSB BSB: and Joseph reduced the people to servitude from one end of Egypt to the other.
GLT Only the land of the priests he did not buy, because{ there was} an allotment for the priests from Pharaoh, and they ate{ from} their allotment that Pharaoh gave to them. For that{ reason} they did not sell their land. BSB BSB: However, he did not acquire the priests’ portion of the land, for it had been given to them by Pharaoh. They ate the rations that Pharaoh supplied; so they did not sell their land.
GLT Then Joseph said to the people,“Behold, today I have bought you and your land for Pharaoh. Here{ is} seed for you so that you can sow the ground. BSB BSB: Then Joseph said to the people, “Now that I have acquired you and your land for Pharaoh this day, here is seed for you to sow in the land.
GLT And it will happen in the harvests that you must give a fifth to Pharaoh, and the four parts will be for you as seed of the field and as your food and for those in your houses and for your little ones to eat.” BSB BSB: At harvest time, you are to give a fifth of it to Pharaoh, and four-fifths will be yours as seed for the field and food for yourselves and your households and children.”
GLT And they said,“You have kept us alive! Let us find favor in the eyes of my lord, and we will be slaves for Pharaoh.” BSB BSB: “You have saved our lives,” they said. “We have found favor in our lord’s eyes, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”
GLT And Joseph established it as a law to this day concerning the{ farm} land of Egypt,{ that} the fifth{ belongs} to Pharaoh. Only the land of the priests by itself did not become Pharaoh’ s. 47:27-31 BSB BSB: So Joseph established a law that a fifth of the produce belongs to Pharaoh, and it is in effect in the land of Egypt to this day. Only the priests’ land does not belong to Pharaoh.
GLT And Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they acquired{ possessions} in it. And they were fruitful and multiplied greatly. BSB BSB: Now the Israelites settled in the land of Egypt, in the region of Goshen. They acquired property there and became fruitful and increased greatly in number.
GLT And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were 147 years, BSB BSB: And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the length of his life was 147 years.
GLT and the days of Israel drew near{ for him} to die. So he called for his son, for Joseph, and said to him,“If, please, I have found favor in your eyes, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal with me{ in} kindness and faithfulness. Please do not bury me in Egypt. BSB BSB: When the time drew near for Israel to die, he called his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes, put your hand under my thigh and promise to show me kindness and faithfulness. Do not bury me in Egypt,
GLT And{ when} I lie down with my fathers, then carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb.” And he said,“I will do according to your word.” BSB BSB: but when I lie down with my fathers, carry me out of Egypt and bury me with them.” Joseph answered, “I will do as you have requested.”
GLT Then he said,“Swear to me.” And he swore to him. Then Israel bowed at the head of the bed. BSB BSB: “Swear to me,” Jacob said. So Joseph swore to him, and Israel bowed in worship at the head of his bed.
