GLT Do not rejoice, O Israel, with joy like the peoples. For you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved the wages of a harlot on all the threshing floors. BSB BSB: Do not rejoice, O Israel, with exultation like the nations, for you have played the harlot against your God; you have made love for hire on every threshing floor.
GLT The threshing floor and the winepress will not feed them; and the new wine will fail them. BSB BSB: The threshing floor and winepress will not feed them, and the new wine will fail them.
GLT They will not remain in the land of Yahweh; instead, Ephraim will return to Egypt, and they will eat unclean food in Assyria. BSB BSB: They will not remain in the land of the LORD; Ephraim will return to Egypt and eat unclean food in Assyria.
GLT They will not pour out wine offerings to Yahweh, neither will their sacrifices be pleasing to him. It will be like the bread of mourners to them: all who eat it will be defiled. For their bread will be for themselves only; it will not come into the house of Yahweh. BSB BSB: They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD, and their sacrifices will not please Him, but will be to them like the bread of mourners; all who eat will be defiled. For their bread will be for themselves; it will not enter the house of the LORD.
GLT What will you do on the day of an appointed festival, and on the day of a festival for Yahweh? BSB BSB: What will you do on the appointed day, on the day of the LORD’s feast?
GLT For behold, they go away from destruction, but Egypt will gather them, Memphis will bury them. As for their treasures of silver— sharp briers will possess them, thorns will be in their tents. BSB BSB: For even if they flee destruction, Egypt will gather them and Memphis will bury them. Their precious silver will be taken over by thistles, and thorns will overrun their tents.
GLT The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have come. Let Israel know these things. The prophet is a fool, the man of the spirit is insane, because of your great iniquity and great hostility. BSB BSB: The days of punishment have come; the days of retribution have arrived—let Israel know it. The prophet is called a fool, and the inspired man insane, because of the greatness of your iniquity and hostility.
GLT The prophet is the watchman with my God over Ephraim. But the snare of a fowler is on all of his ways, and hostility in the house of his God. BSB BSB: The prophet is Ephraim’s watchman, along with my God, yet the snare of the fowler lies on all his paths. Hostility is in the house of his God!
GLT They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah. He will remember their iniquity, he will punish their sins. BSB BSB: They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah; He will remember their guilt; He will punish their sins.
GLT As for Ephraim, their glory will fly away like a bird-- no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception. BSB BSB: Ephraim’s glory will fly away like a bird, with no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception.
GLT Even if they bring up their children, I will bereave them until no one is left. Yes, woe to them indeed when I turn away from them! BSB BSB: Even if they raise their children, I will bereave them of each one. Yes, woe be to them when I turn away from them!
GLT Ephraim, as I have seen, is like Tyre planted in a meadow; but Ephraim will bring out his children to him who slaughters.” BSB BSB: I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre, planted in a meadow. But Ephraim will bring out his children for slaughter.
GLT Give them, O Yahweh— what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts. BSB BSB: Give them, O LORD—what will You give? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that dry up!
GLT “All their evil is in Gilgal, indeed I came to hate them there. Because of the wickedness of their deeds, I will drive them out of my house. I will love them no more; all their princes are rebels. BSB BSB: All their evil appears at Gilgal, for there I hated them. I will drive them from My house for the wickedness of their deeds. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious.
GLT Ephraim is stricken; their root is dried up; they will bear no fruit. Even if they give birth, I will kill the precious ones of their womb.” BSB BSB: Ephraim is struck down; their root is withered; they cannot bear fruit. Even if they bear children, I will slay the darlings of their wombs.
GLT My God will reject them because they have not listened to him. They will become wanderers among the nations. BSB BSB: My God will reject them because they have not obeyed Him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
