1 GLT Yahweh, you{ are} my God, I shall exalt you; I shall praise your name; for you have done wonders planned long ago{ in} perfect faithfulness. BSB BSB: O LORD, You are my God! I will exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders—plans formed long ago—in perfect faithfulness.
2 GLT For you have made a town into a heap, a fortified city into a ruin, a fortress of strangers from a town, it will not be built forever. BSB BSB: Indeed, You have made the city a heap of rubble, the fortified town a ruin. The fortress of strangers is a city no more; it will never be rebuilt.
3 GLT Therefore a strong people will glorify you; a city of ruthless nations will fear you. BSB BSB: Therefore, a strong people will honor You. The cities of ruthless nations will revere You.
4 GLT For you have been a fortress for the poor, a fortress for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless{ is} like a storm{ against} a wall, BSB BSB: For You have been a refuge for the poor, a stronghold for the needy in distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like rain against a wall,
5 GLT like heat in a dry land. You subdued the noise of foreigners,{ as} the heat by the shade of a cloud. the song of the ruthless is answered. BSB BSB: like heat in a dry land. You subdue the uproar of foreigners. As the shade of a cloud cools the heat, so the song of the ruthless is silenced.
6 GLT And Yahweh of hosts will make for all peoples on this mountain a feast of fat things, a feast of choice wines, fat things{ full} of marrow, strained wine. BSB BSB: On this mountain the LORD of Hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all the peoples, a feast of aged wine, of choice meat, of finely aged wine.
7 GLT And he will consume on this mountain the face of the veil covering over all peoples and the web woven over all the nations; BSB BSB: On this mountain He will swallow up the shroud that enfolds all peoples, the sheet that covers all nations;
8 GLT he will swallow up death forever. And the Lord Yahweh will wipe away tears from off all faces. And the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Yahweh has spoken. BSB BSB: He will swallow up death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face and remove the disgrace of His people from the whole earth. For the LORD has spoken.
9 GLT And it will be said on that day,“Behold, this{ is} our God; we have hoped in him, and he saved us. This{ is} Yahweh; we have hoped in him, we shall be glad and rejoice in his salvation.” BSB BSB: And in that day it will be said, “Surely this is our God; we have waited for Him, and He has saved us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited. Let us rejoice and be glad in His salvation.”
10 GLT For on this mountain the hand of Yahweh will rest; and Moab will be trampled down in his place, as straw is trampled down in a dunghill. BSB BSB: For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain. But Moab will be trampled in his place as straw is trodden into the dung pile.
11 GLT And it will spread its hands in the midst of it, as the swimmer spreads{ his hands} to swim. But he will bring down its pride with the skill of its hands. BSB BSB: He will spread out his hands within it, as a swimmer spreads his arms to swim. His pride will be brought low, despite the skill of his hands.
12 GLT And your high fortress walls he will bring down, bring low, cast to the ground, to the dust. BSB BSB: The high-walled fortress will be brought down, cast to the ground, into the dust.
