1 GLT “I have spoken these things to you so that you might not fall away. BSB BSB: “I have told you these things so that you will not fall away.
2 GLT They will cause you to be put out of the synagogues. But an hour is coming for everyone having killed you to think he offers a service to God. BSB BSB: They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.
3 GLT And they will do these things because they have not known the Father, nor me. BSB BSB: They will do these things because they have not known the Father or Me.
4 GLT But I have spoken these things to you so that when their hour comes, you may remember that I told you about them. But I did not tell you these things in the beginning, because I was with you. BSB BSB: But I have told you these things so that when their hour comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you.
5 GLT But now I go to the one having sent me, and none of you asks me,‘Where are you going?’ BSB BSB: Now, however, I am going to Him who sent Me; yet none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’
6 GLT But because I have said these things to you, sadness has filled your heart. BSB BSB: Instead, your hearts are filled with sorrow because I have told you these things.
8 GLT And having come, that one will reprove the world about sin and about righteousness and about judgment— BSB BSB: And when He comes, He will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
9 GLT about sin, because they do not believe in me; BSB BSB: in regard to sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 GLT and about righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will no longer see me; BSB BSB: in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me;
11 GLT and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. BSB BSB: and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world has been condemned.
12 GLT I have many more things to say to you, but you are not able to bear{ them} now. BSB BSB: I still have much to tell you, but you cannot yet bear to hear it.
13 GLT But when that one, the Spirit of Truth, comes, he will guide you into the whole truth, for he will not speak from himself, but he will say whatever he will hear, and he will announce to you the things coming. BSB BSB: However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come. 14 GLT That one will glorify me, because he will take from the things of mine, and he will announce{ it} to you. BSB BSB: He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you.
15 GLT Everything, as much as the Father has, is mine. Therefore, I said that he will take from the things of mine and he will announce{ it} to you. BSB BSB: Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you.
16 GLT And in a little{ while} you no longer see me, and again a little{ while} and you will see me.” BSB BSB: In a little while you will see Me no more, and then after a little while you will see Me.”
17 GLT Then some of his disciples said to one another,“What is this that he says to us,‘A little{ while} and you do not see me, and again a little{ while} and you will see me,’ and,‘Because I go to the Father’?” BSB BSB: Then some of His disciples asked one another, “Why is He telling us, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”
18 GLT Therefore they were saying,“What is this‘A little{ while}’? We do not know what he is saying.” BSB BSB: They kept asking, “Why is He saying, ‘a little while’? We do not understand what He is saying.”
19 GLT Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, and he said to them,“Are you seeking among yourselves concerning this, that I said,‘A little{ while} and you do not see me, and again a little{ while} and you will see me’? BSB BSB: Aware that they wanted to question Him, Jesus said to them, “Are you asking one another why I said, ‘In a little while you will not see Me, and then after a little while you will see Me’?
20 GLT Truly, truly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will be glad. You will be grieved, but your sorrow will become joy. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.
21 GLT When a woman gives birth, she has pain because her hour has come, but when she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers her suffering, because of the joy that a man has been born into the world. BSB BSB: A woman has pain in childbirth because her time has come; but when she brings forth her child, she forgets her anguish because of her joy that a child has been born into the world.
22 GLT And so you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your heart will be glad, and no one takes away your joy from you. BSB BSB: So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
23 GLT And in that day you will ask me nothing. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give{ it} to you. BSB BSB: In that day you will no longer ask Me anything. Truly, truly, I tell you, whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
24 GLT Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive so that your joy may be fulfilled. BSB BSB: Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
25 GLT I have said these things to you in figures of speech; an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but instead I will tell you plainly about the Father. BSB BSB: I have spoken these things to you in figures of speech. An hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you this way, but will tell you plainly about the Father.
26 GLT In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on behalf of you, BSB BSB: In that day you will ask in My name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf.
27 GLT for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. BSB BSB: For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God.
28 GLT I came from the Father, and I have come into the world. Again, I am leaving the world, and I am going to the Father.” BSB BSB: I came from the Father and entered the world. In turn, I will leave the world and go to the Father.”
29 GLT His disciples say,“See, now you are speaking plainly, and you are not speaking in figures of speech. BSB BSB: His disciples said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and without figures of speech.
30 GLT Now we know that you know all things, and you do not have need that anyone would question you. In this we believe that you have come from God.” BSB BSB: Now we understand that You know all things and that You have no need for anyone to question You. Because of this, we believe that You came from God.”
31 GLT Jesus answered them,“Just now do you believe? BSB BSB: “Do you finally believe?” Jesus replied.
32 GLT Behold, an hour is coming— and has come— that you might be scattered, each one to his own, and you might leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me. BSB BSB: “Look, an hour is coming and has already come when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and you will leave Me all alone. Yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.
33 GLT I have spoken these things to you so that you might have peace in me. In the world you have troubles, but have courage. I have conquered the world.” BSB BSB: I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
