1 GLT “You must not make for yourselves idols. And a carved figure or a stone pillar you must not lift up for yourselves, and a stone sculpture you must not put in your land to bow down in front of it. For I am Yahweh your God. BSB BSB: “You must not make idols for yourselves or set up a carved image or sacred pillar; you must not place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it. For I am the LORD your God.
2 GLT My sabbaths you must keep and my holy place you must fear. I am Yahweh. BSB BSB: You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3 GLT If you walk in my statutes and keep my commandments and do them, BSB BSB: If you follow My statutes and carefully keep My commandments,
4 GLT then I will give your rain in its season. And the land will give its yield, and the tree of the field will give its fruit. BSB BSB: I will give you rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
5 GLT And your threshing season will reach the grape harvest, and the grape harvest will reach the planting season. And you will eat your bread to satisfaction and dwell securely in your land. BSB BSB: Your threshing will continue until the grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have your fill of food to eat and will dwell securely in your land.
6 GLT And I will give peace in the land. And you will lie down and there will be nothing that makes one afraid. And I will remove the harmful animals from the land, and the sword will not pass through your land. BSB BSB: And I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to fear. I will rid the land of dangerous animals, and no sword will pass through your land.
7 GLT And you will pursue those who are hostile to you, and they will fall before your face by the sword. BSB BSB: You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
8 GLT And five from you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred from you will pursue ten thousand. And those who are hostile to you will fall before your face by the sword. BSB BSB: Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
9 GLT And I will turn to you and make you fruitful and multiply you. And I will establish my covenant with you. BSB BSB: I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish My covenant with you.
10 GLT And you will eat the old that has grown old and the old you will bring out from the face of the new. BSB BSB: You will still be eating the old supply of grain when you need to clear it out to make room for the new.
11 GLT And I will put my holy place in the midst of you, and my spirit will not detest you. BSB BSB: And I will make My dwelling place among you, and My soul will not despise you.
12 GLT And I will walk in the midst of you and I will be your God, and you will be my people. BSB BSB: I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.
13 GLT I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from being their slaves. And I broke the bars of your yoke and made you to walk upright. BSB BSB: I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk in uprightness.
14 GLT And if you will not listen to me, and will not do all these commandments, BSB BSB: If, however, you fail to obey Me and to carry out all these commandments,
15 GLT and if you reject my statutes and if your spirit detests my laws, so as to not do all my commandments, so that you break my covenant— BSB BSB: and if you reject My statutes, despise My ordinances, and neglect to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,
16 GLT then surely I will do this to you: I will inflict terror on you, consumption and fever that destroys the eyes and drains away life. And you will sow your seed for nothing, because those who are hostile to you will eat it. BSB BSB: then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror, wasting disease, and fever that will destroy your sight and drain your life. You will sow your seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
17 GLT And I will set my face against you, and you will be defeated in the face of those who are hostile to you. And those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee, though there is not one who chases you. BSB BSB: And I will set My face against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you.
18 GLT And if up to these you do not listen to me, then I will continue to discipline you seven times for your sins. BSB BSB: And if after all this you will not obey Me, I will proceed to punish you sevenfold for your sins.
19 GLT And I will break the pride of your power. And I will make your sky like iron and your land like bronze. BSB BSB: I will break down your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,
20 GLT And your strength will be used up for nothing, because your land will not give its yield. And the tree of the land will not give its fruit. BSB BSB: and your strength will be spent in vain. For your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit.
22 GLT And I will send forth among you animals of the field, and they will make you childless, and destroy your livestock, and make you few in number. And your roads will become deserted. BSB BSB: I will send wild animals against you to rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie desolate.
23 GLT And if in spite of these things you do not accept my discpline and you walk against me in opposition, BSB BSB: And if in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
24 GLT then I will also walk, I myself, against you in opposition. And I will strike you, even I myself, seven times because of your sins. BSB BSB: then I will act with hostility toward you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins.
25 GLT And I will bring a sword upon you that will avenge with the vengeance of the covenant, and you will be gathered into your cities. And I will send a plague in the midst of you, and you will be given into the hand of the one who is hostile. BSB BSB: And I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26 GLT When I break the staff of your bread, then ten women will bake your bread in one oven. And they will distribute your bread by weight, and you will eat but not be satisfied. BSB BSB: When I cut off your supply of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and dole out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.
27 GLT And if in spite of this you do not listen to me, and you walk against me in opposition, BSB BSB: But if in spite of all this you do not obey Me, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
28 GLT then I will walk against you in the wrath of opposition. And I will discipline you, even I, seven times for your sins. BSB BSB: then I will walk in fury against you, and I, even I, will punish you sevenfold for your sins.
29 GLT And you will eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters you will eat. BSB BSB: You will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
30 GLT And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your incense altars, and put your corpses on the corpses of your idols, and I myself will abhor you. BSB BSB: I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless remains of your idols; and My soul will despise you.
31 GLT And I will lay your cities in ruins and make your holy places desolate. And I will not smell your sweet aromas. BSB BSB: I will reduce your cities to rubble and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will refuse to smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.
32 GLT And I myself will make the land desolate, and those who are hostile to you who dwell in it will be shocked at it. BSB BSB: And I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who dwell in it will be appalled.
33 GLT And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will unsheathe a sword behind you. And your land will be desolate, and your cities will be ruined. BSB BSB: But I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes desolate and your cities are laid waste.
34 GLT Then the land will enjoy its sabbaths all the days of its desolation while you are in the land of those who are hostile to you. Then the land will rest and enjoy its sabbaths. BSB BSB: Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.
35 GLT All the days of its desolation it will rest what it did not rest on your sabbaths when you lived on it. BSB BSB: As long as it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.
36 GLT As for the ones who are remaining among you, I will bring despair into their hearts in the land of those who are hostile to them, and the sound of a windblown leaf will chase them. And they will flee as one fleeing from a sword, and you will fall though there is not one who chases. BSB BSB: As for those of you who survive, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, so that even the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. And they will flee as one flees the sword, and fall when no one pursues them.
37 GLT And you will stumble, each over his brother, as from the face of a sword, though there is not one who chases. And you will have no power to stand to the face of those who are hostile to you. BSB BSB: They will stumble over one another as before the sword, though no one is behind them. So you will not be able to stand against your enemies.
38 GLT And you will perish among the nations, and the land of those who are hostile to you will devour you. BSB BSB: You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you.
39 GLT And the ones who are remaining among you will rot in their iniquity, in the lands of those who are hostile to you. And also in the iniquities of their fathers they will rot with them. BSB BSB: Those of you who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away in their iniquity and will decay in the sins of their fathers.
40 GLT And if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, in their unfaithfulness which they acted unfaithfully against me, and also that they walked against me in opposition— BSB BSB: But if they will confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they have also walked in hostility toward Me—
41 GLT also I myself went against them in opposition and I brought them into the land of those who are hostile to them— if then their uncircumcised hearts become humbled, and then they pay for their iniquity, BSB BSB: and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies—and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make amends for their iniquity,
42 GLT then I will remember my covenant with Jacob. And also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham I will remember. And I will remember the land. BSB BSB: then I will remember My covenant with Jacob and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
43 GLT And the land was abandoned by them, and it will rejoice with its sabbaths while being desolate without them. And they themselves will pay for their iniquity because they rejected my judgments and their spirit detested my statutes. BSB BSB: For the land will be abandoned by them, and it will enjoy its Sabbaths by lying desolate without them. And they will pay the penalty for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and abhorred My statutes.
44 GLT And despite even this, when they are in the land of those who are hostile to them, I will not reject them, and I will not detest them so as to destroy them, to break my covenant with them. For I am Yahweh their God. BSB BSB: Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or despise them so as to destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
45 GLT And I will remember for their sake the covenant with their ancestors, them whom I brought out from the land of Egypt in the eyes of the nations, to be their God. I am Yahweh.” BSB BSB: But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
46 GLT These are the statutes, and the judgments, and the instructions that Yahweh made between himself and between the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai by the hand of Moses. BSB BSB: These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD established between Himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.
