5Ахав сказал Авдию: «Пойди по земле ко всем источникам воды и ко всем ручьям на земле, не найдём ли где травы, чтобы нам прокормить коней и мулов и не лишиться скота».Then Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go throughout the land to every spring and every valley. Perhaps we will find grass to keep the horses and mules alive so that we will not have to destroy any livestock.”

6Они распределили между собой землю, чтобы обойти её: Ахав пошёл в одну сторону, а Авдий пошёл в другую.So they divided the land to explore. Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went the other way by himself.

8Тот сказал ему: «Я! Пойди, скажи твоему господину: "Илия здесь"».“It is I,” he answered. “Go tell your master, ‘Elijah is here!’”

9Он сказал: «Чем я провинился, что ты отдаёшь твоего слугу в руки Ахава, чтобы убить меня?But Obadiah replied, “How have I sinned, that you are handing your servant over to Ahab to put me to death?

10Жив твой Господь Бог! Нет ни одного народа и царства, куда бы не посылал мой господин искать тебя, и когда ему говорили, что тебя нет, он брал клятву с того царства и народа, что не могли отыскать тебя.As surely as the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent someone to search for you. When they said, ‘He is not here,’ he made that kingdom or nation swear that they had not found you.

11А теперь ты говоришь: "Пойди, скажи твоему господину: "Илия здесь".And now you say, ‘Go tell your master that Elijah is here!’

12Когда я пойду от тебя, тогда Дух Господа унесёт тебя не знаю куда, и если я пойду уведомить Ахава, и он не найдёт тебя, то он убьёт меня, а твой слуга богобоязнен от своей юности.I do not know where the Spirit of the LORD may carry you off when I leave you. Then when I go and tell Ahab and he does not find you, he will kill me. But I, your servant, have feared the LORD from my youth.

13Разве не рассказали моему господину, что я сделал, когда Иезавель убивала пророков Господа, как я скрывал сто пророков Господа, по пятьдесят человек в пещерах и кормил их хлебом и водой?Was it not reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel slaughtered the prophets of the LORD? I hid a hundred prophets of the LORD, fifty men per cave, and I provided them with food and water.

14А теперь ты говоришь: "Пойди, скажи твоему господину: "Илия здесь", он убьёт меня».And now you say, ‘Go tell your lord that Elijah is here!’ He will kill me!”

15Илия сказал: «Жив Господь Саваоф, перед Которым я стою! Сегодня я покажусь ему».Then Elijah said, “As surely as the LORD of Hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will present myself to Ahab today.”

16Авдий пошёл навстречу Ахаву и донёс ему. Ахав пошёл навстречу Илии.So Obadiah went to inform Ahab, who went to meet Elijah.

17Когда Ахав увидел Илию, то сказал ему: «Ты ли это, смущающий Израиль?»When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, O troubler of Israel?”

18Илия ответил: «Не я смущаю Израиль, а ты и дом твоего отца, тем, что вы оставили повеления Господа и идёте за Ваалом.“I have not troubled Israel,” Elijah replied, “but you and your father’s house have, for you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have followed the Baals.

19Теперь собери ко мне на гору Кармил весь Израиль, четыреста пятьдесят пророков Ваала, четыреста пророков Астарты, которые едят со стола Иезавели».Now summon all Israel to meet me on Mount Carmel, along with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah who eat at Jezebel’s table.”

20Ахав послал ко всем сыновьям Израиля и собрал всех пророков на гору Кармил.So Ahab summoned all the Israelites and assembled the prophets on Mount Carmel.

21Илия подошёл ко всему народу и сказал: «Долго ли вам хромать на оба колена? Если Господь есть Бог, то последуйте Ему, а если Ваал- то ему последуйте». Народ не отвечал ему ни слова.Then Elijah approached all the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people did not answer a word.

22Илия сказал народу: «Я один остался пророк Господа, а пророков Ваала четыреста пятьдесят человек и четыреста дубравных пророков.Then Elijah said to the people, “I am the only remaining prophet of the LORD, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.

23Пусть дадут нам двух тельцов, и пусть они выберут себе одного тельца, разрежут его и положат на дрова, но огонь пусть не подкладывают, а я приготовлю другого тельца и положу на дрова, а огня не подложу.Get two bulls for us. Let the prophets of Baal choose one bull for themselves, cut it into pieces, and place it on the wood but not light the fire. And I will prepare the other bull and place it on the wood but not light the fire.

24Вы призовите имя вашего бога, а я призову имя моего Господа Бога. Тот Бог, Который ответит огнём, есть Бог». И отвечал весь народ, и сказал: «Хорошо, пусть будет так».Then you may call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD. The God who answers by fire, He is God.” And all the people answered, “What you say is good.”

25Илия сказал пророкам Ваала: «Выберите себе одного тельца и приготовьте сначала вы, потому что вас много, и призовите имя вашего бога, но огонь не подкладывайте».Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Since you are so numerous, choose for yourselves one bull and prepare it first. Then call on the name of your god, but do not light the fire.”

26Они взяли тельца, который дан был им, приготовили и призывали имя Ваала от утра до полудня, говоря: «Ваале, услышь нас!» Но не было ни голоса, ни ответа. И скакали они у жертвенника, который сделали.And they took the bull that was given them, prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, shouting, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no sound, and no one answered as they leaped around the altar they had made.

27В полдень Илия стал смеяться над ними и говорил: «Кричите громким голосом, он же бог. Может быть, он задумался или занят чем-либо, или в дороге, а, может быть, спит, так он проснётся!»At noon Elijah began to taunt them, saying, “Shout louder, for he is a god! Perhaps he is deep in thought, or occupied, or on a journey. Perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened!”

28Они стали кричать громким голосом и кололи себя по своему обычаю ножами и копьями, так что по ним лилась кровь.So they shouted louder and cut themselves with knives and lances, as was their custom, until the blood gushed over them.

29Прошёл полдень, а они всё ещё безумствовали до времени вечернего жертвоприношения. Но в ответ не было ни голоса, ни слуха. И сказал Илия Фесвитянин пророкам Ваала: «Теперь отойдите, чтоб и я совершил моё жертвоприношение». Они отошли и умолкли.Midday passed, and they kept on raving until the time of the evening sacrifice. But there was no response; no one answered, no one paid attention.

30Тогда Илия сказал всему народу: «Подойдите ко мне». Весь народ подошёл к нему. Он восстановил разрушенный жертвенник Господа.Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people approached him, and he repaired the altar of the LORD that had been torn down.

31Илия взял двенадцать камней, по числу поколений сыновей Иакова, которому Господь сказал так: "«Израиль» будет твоё имя".And Elijah took twelve stones, one for each tribe of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD had come and said, “Israel shall be your name.”

32Из этих камней построил жертвенник во имя Господа и сделал вокруг жертвенника ров, вместимостью в две саты зёрен,And with the stones, Elijah built an altar in the name of the LORD. Then he dug a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed.

33на жертвенник положил дрова, разрезал тельца, положил его на дроваNext, he arranged the wood, cut up the bull, placed it on the wood,

34и сказал: «Наполните четыре ведра воды и выливайте на всесожигаемую жертву и на дрова». И сделали так. Потом сказал: «Повторите». И они повторили. И сказал: «Сделайте то же в третий раз». Сделали в третий раз,and said, “Fill four waterpots and pour the water on the offering and on the wood.” “Do it a second time,” he said, and they did it a second time. “Do it a third time,” he said, and they did it a third time.

35и вода полилась вокруг жертвенника, и ров наполнился водой.So the water ran down around the altar and even filled the trench.

36Во время приношения вечерней жертвы подошёл пророк Илия и воззвал на небо и сказал: «Господи Боже Авраама, Исаака и Израиля! Услышь меня, Господи, услышь меня ныне в огне! Пусть познают в этот день эти люди, что Ты один Бог в Израиле, и что я Твой раб и сделал всё по Твоему слову.At the time of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet approached the altar and said, “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and have done all these things at Your command.

37Услышь меня, Господи, услышь меня! Пусть познает этот народ, что Ты, Господи- Бог, и Ты обратишь их сердце к Тебе».Answer me, O LORD! Answer me, so that this people will know that You, the LORD, are God, and that You have turned their hearts back again.”

38И сошёл огонь Господа, и пожрал всесожжение, дрова, камни, прах и поглотил воду, которая во рву.Then the fire of the LORD fell and consumed the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and it licked up the water in the trench.

39Увидев это, весь народ поклонился до земли и сказал: «Господь есть Бог! Господь есть Бог!»When all the people saw this, they fell facedown and said, “The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God!”

40Илия сказал им: «Схватите пророков Ваала, чтобы ни один из них не скрылся». Их схватили, и отвёл их Илия к потоку Киссон и заколол их там.Then Elijah ordered them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let a single one escape.” So they seized them, and Elijah brought them down to the Kishon Valley and slaughtered them there.

41Илия сказал Ахаву: «Пойди, ешь и пей, потому что слышен шум дождя».And Elijah said to Ahab, “Go up, eat and drink, for there is the sound of a heavy rain.”

42Ахав пошёл есть и пить, а Илия поднялся на вершину Кармила, наклонился к земле, положил своё лицо на свои колениSo Ahab went up to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the summit of Carmel, bent down on the ground, and put his face between his knees.

43и сказал своему слуге: «Пойди, посмотри в сторону моря». Тот пошёл, посмотрел и сказал: «Ничего нет». Он сказал: «Продолжай это до семи раз».“Go and look toward the sea,” he said to his servant. So the servant went and looked, and he said, “There is nothing there.” Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.”

44В седьмой раз тот сказал: «Вот, от моря поднимается меленькая туча размером в человеческую ладонь». Он сказал: «Пойди, скажи Ахаву: "Запрягай твою колесницу и поезжай, чтобы не застал тебя дождь"».On the seventh time the servant reported, “There is a cloud as small as a man’s hand rising from the sea.” And Elijah replied, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”

45Между тем небо потемнело от туч и от ветра, и пошёл большой дождь. Ахав сел в колесницу, заплакал и поехал в Изреель.Meanwhile, the sky grew dark with clouds and wind, and a heavy rain began to fall. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel.

46На Илии была рука Господа. Он подвязал пояс и бежал перед Ахавом до самого Изрееля.And the hand of the LORD came upon Elijah, and he tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.
