2«Действительно, только вы— люди, и мудрость умрёт с вами!“Truly then you are the people with whom wisdom itself will die!

3У меня, как и у вас, есть сердце. Я не ниже вас. Кто не знает этого?But I also have a mind; I am not inferior to you. Who does not know such things as these?

4Я стал посмешищем для своего друга, я, который взывал к Богу, и Он мне отвечал, стал посмешищем— человек праведный и непорочный.I am a laughingstock to my friends, though I called on God, and He answered. The righteous and upright man is a laughingstock.

5Так, по рассуждению сидящего в покое, презираем факел, приготовленный для спотыкающихся ногами.The one at ease scorns misfortune as the fate of those whose feet are slipping.

6Спокойны шатры у грабителей и безопасны у раздражающих Бога, которые как будто носят Бога в своих руках.The tents of robbers are safe, and those who provoke God are secure—those who carry their god in their hands.

7И верно: спроси у скота— и научит тебя, у птицы небесной— и расскажет тебе,But ask the animals, and they will instruct you; ask the birds of the air, and they will tell you.

8побеседуй с землёй— и наставит тебя, и морские рыбы расскажут тебе.Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; let the fish of the sea inform you.

9Кто во всём этом не узнает, что это сотворила рука Господа?Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this?

10В Его руке душа всего живущего и дух каждой человеческой плоти.The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.

11Не ухо ли разбирает слова, и не язык ли распознаёт вкус пищи?Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes its food?

12У старцев мудрость, у долголетних разум.Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life.

13У Него мудрость и сила. Его совет и разум.Wisdom and strength belong to God; counsel and understanding are His.

14Что Он разрушит, то не построится, кого Он заключит, тот не освободится.What He tears down cannot be rebuilt; the man He imprisons cannot be released.

15Остановит воды— и всё высохнет, пустит их— и изменят землю.If He holds back the waters, they dry up, and if He releases them, they overwhelm the land.

16У Него могущество и мудрость, перед Ним и тот, кто заблуждается, и тот, кто вводит в заблуждение.True wisdom and power belong to Him. The deceived and the deceiver are His.

17Он приводит советников к необдуманности и судей делает глупыми.He leads counselors away barefoot and makes fools of judges.

18Он лишает царей поясов, обвязывает их бёдра повязкой.He loosens the bonds placed by kings and fastens a belt around their waists.

19Лишает правителей достоинства, свергает сильных.He leads priests away barefoot and overthrows the established.

20Отнимает язык у советников, забирает разум у старцев.He deprives the trusted of speech and takes away the discernment of elders.

21Покрывает стыдом знаменитых, ослабляет силу крепких.He pours out contempt on nobles and disarms the mighty.

22Открывает глубину тьмы, выводит на свет смертную тень.He reveals the deep things of darkness and brings deep shadows into light.

23Умножает народы и уничтожает, рассеивает народы и собирает.He makes nations great and destroys them; He enlarges nations, then disperses them.

24Отнимает разум у правителей народов земли и оставляет их блуждать в пустыне, где нет дороги:He deprives the earth’s leaders of reason and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.

25они ходят во тьме наощупь, без света шатаются, как пьяные.They grope in the darkness without light; He makes them stagger like drunkards.
