1После смерти Иисуса сыновья Израиля спрашивали Господа: «Кто из нас первым пойдёт воевать против хананеев?»After the death of Joshua, the Israelites inquired of the LORD, “Who will be the first to go up and fight for us against the Canaanites?”

2И Господь сказал: «Пойдёт Иуда. Я отдаю землю в его руки».“Judah shall go up,” answered the LORD. “Indeed, I have delivered the land into their hands.”

3Иуда же сказал своему брату Симеону: «Войди со мной в мой жребий, и будем воевать против хананеев. А я войду с тобой в твой жребий». И Симеон пошёл с ним.Then the men of Judah said to their brothers the Simeonites, “Come up with us to our allotted territory, and let us fight against the Canaanites. And we likewise will go with you to your territory.” So the Simeonites went with them.

4Иуда пошёл, и Господь отдал хананеев и ферезеев в их руки. Они поразили в Везеке десять тысяч человек.When Judah attacked, the LORD delivered the Canaanites and Perizzites into their hands, and they struck down ten thousand men at Bezek.

5В Везеке встретились они с Адони-Везеком, сразились с ним и разбили хананеев и ферезеев.And there they found Adoni-bezek and fought against him, striking down the Canaanites and Perizzites.

6Адони-Везек побежал, но они погнались за ним, поймали и отрубили большие пальцы на его руках и ногах.As Adoni-bezek fled, they pursued him, seized him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

7Тогда сказал Адони-Везек: «Семьдесят царей с отрубленными большими пальцами на руках и ногах собирали крохи под моим столом. Как я делал, так мне и воздал Бог». Его привели в Иерусалим, и там он умер.Then Adoni-bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have gathered the scraps under my table. As I have done to them, so God has repaid me.” And they brought him to Jerusalem, where he died.

8Сыновья Иуды воевали против Иерусалима, взяли его и поразили его мечом, а город сожгли.Then the men of Judah fought against Jerusalem and captured it. They put the city to the sword and set it on fire.

9Потом сыновья Иуды пошли воевать против хананеев, которые жили в горах на южной земле и на низменных местах.Afterward, the men of Judah marched down to fight against the Canaanites living in the hill country, in the Negev, and in the foothills.

10Иуда пошёл на хананеев, которые жили в Хевроне, раньше Хеврон назывался Кириаф-Арбы, и победил Шешая, Ахимана и Фалмая.Judah also marched against the Canaanites who were living in Hebron (formerly known as Kiriath-arba), and they struck down Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.

11Оттуда он пошёл против жителей Давира— раньше Давир назывался Кириаф-Сефер.From there they marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).

12Халев сказал: «Кто поразит Кириаф-Сефер и возьмёт его, тому отдам мою дочь Ахсу в жёны».And Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”

13И взял его Гофониил, сын Кеназа, младшего брата Халева, и Халев отдал свою дочь Ахсу ему в жёны.So Othniel son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz captured the city, and Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.

14Когда настало время идти, её подговорили просить у её отца поле. Она слезла с осла, и Халев сказал ей: «Что тебе?»One day Acsah came to Othniel and urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you desire?”

15Ахса сказала ему: «Дай мне благословение: ты дал мне южную землю, дай мне и источники воды». И Халев дал ей верхние и нижние источники.“Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.

16Сыновья кенеянина, тестя Моисея, пошли из города пальм с сыновьями Иуды в иудейскую пустыню, которая к югу от Арада, пришли и поселились среди народа.Now the descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up with the men of Judah from the City of Palms to the Wilderness of Judah in the Negev near Arad. They went to live among the people.

17Иуда со своим братом Симеоном пошли и разбили хананеев, живших в Цефафе, и предали его заклятию. Поэтому называется этот город Хорма.Then the men of Judah went with their brothers the Simeonites, attacked the Canaanites living in Zephath, and devoted the city to destruction. So it was called Hormah.

18Иуда взял также Газу с её территориями, Аскалон с его территориями и Екрон с его территориями.And Judah also captured Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ekron—each with its territory.

19Господь был с Иудой, и он овладел горой, но жителей долины не мог прогнать, потому что у них были железные колесницы.The LORD was with Judah, and they took possession of the hill country; but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains because they had chariots of iron.

20Хеврон отдали Халеву, как говорил Моисей, и он изгнал оттуда трёх сыновей Енака.Just as Moses had promised, Judah gave Hebron to Caleb, who drove out the descendants of the three sons of Anak.

21Но иевусеев, которые жили в Иерусалиме, не изгнали сыновья Вениамина, и живут иевусеи в Иерусалиме с сыновьями Вениамина до этого дня.The Benjamites, however, failed to drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the Benjamites.

22Сыновья Иосифа пошли на Вефиль, и Господь был с ними.The house of Joseph also attacked Bethel, and the LORD was with them.

23Сыновья Иосифа осматривали Вефиль, раньше этот город назывался Луз.They sent spies to Bethel (formerly known as Luz),

24Стражники, увидев человека, идущего из города, сказали ему: «Покажи нам вход в город, и мы помилуем тебя».and when the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, “Please show us how to get into the city, and we will treat you kindly.”

25Он показал им вход в город. Они поразили город мечом, а того человека и всё его семейство отпустили.So the man showed them the entrance to the city, and they put the city to the sword but released that man and all his family.

26Этот человек пошёл в землю хеттеев, построил город и дал ему имя Луз. Так он называется и до этого дня.And the man went to the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called it Luz, which is its name to this day.

27Манассия не прогнал жителей Бефсана и зависящих от него городов, жителей Фаанаха и зависящих от него городов, жителей Дора и зависящих от него городов, жителей Ивлеама и зависящих от него городов, жителей Мегиддона и зависящих от него городов. И остались хананеи жить в этой земле.At that time Manasseh failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, Megiddo, and their villages; for the Canaanites were determined to dwell in that land.

28Когда Израиль окреп, то он сделал хананеев данниками, но не изгнал их.When Israel became stronger, they pressed the Canaanites into forced labor, but they never drove them out completely.

29Ефрем не изгнал хананеев, живущих в Газере, и хананеи жили среди них в Газере.Ephraim also failed to drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer; so the Canaanites continued to dwell among them in Gezer.

30Завулон не изгнал жителей Китрона и жителей Наглола, и хананеи жили среди них и платили им дань.Zebulun failed to drive out the inhabitants of Kitron and Nahalol; so the Canaanites lived among them and served as forced laborers.

31Асир не изгнал жителей Акко и жителей Сидона и Ахлава, Ахзива, Хелвы, Афека и Рехова.Asher failed to drive out the inhabitants of Acco, Sidon, Ahlab, Achzib, Helbah, Aphik, and Rehob.

32И жил Асир среди хананеев, жителей той земли, потому что не изгнал их.So the Asherites lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, because they did not drive them out.

33И Неффалим не изгнал жителей Вефсамиса и жителей Бефанафа, и жил среди хананеев, жителей той земли. Жители же Вефсамиса и Бефанафа были его данниками.Naphtali failed to drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath. So the Naphtalites also lived among the Canaanite inhabitants of the land, but the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and Beth-anath served them as forced laborers.

34Аморреи притеснили сыновей Дана в горах, потому что не давали им спуститься в долину.The Amorites forced the Danites into the hill country and did not allow them to come down into the plain.

35Остались аморреи жить на горе Херес, в Аиалоне и Шаалвиме, но рука сыновей Иосифа одолела аморреев, и они стали их данниками.And the Amorites were determined to dwell in Mount Heres, Aijalon, and Shaalbim. But when the house of Joseph grew in strength, they pressed the Amorites into forced labor.

36Границы аморреев протянулись от возвышенности Акравим, от Селы и дальше.And the border of the Amorites extended from the Ascent of Akrabbim to Sela and beyond.
