The People of Jerusalem 1 RV So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel: and Judah was carried away captive to Babylon for their transgression. BSB BSB: So all Israel was recorded in the genealogies written in the Book of the Kings of Israel. But Judah was exiled to Babylon because of their unfaithfulness.
2 RV Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, Israel, the priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim. BSB BSB: Now the first to resettle their own property in their cities were Israelites, priests, Levites, and temple servants.
3 RV And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim and Manasseh; BSB BSB: Some of the descendants of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh lived in Jerusalem:
4 RV Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah. BSB BSB: Uthai son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, a descendant of Perez son of Judah.
5 RV And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. BSB BSB: From the Shilonites: Asaiah the firstborn and his sons.
6 RV And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. BSB BSB: From the Zerahites: Jeuel and 690 relatives.
7 RV And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah; BSB BSB: From the Benjamites: Sallu son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah;

9 RV and their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were heads of fathers houses by their fathers’ houses. BSB BSB: and 956 of their relatives according to their genealogy. All these men were heads of their families.
10 RV And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin; BSB BSB: From the priests: Jedaiah, Jehoiarib, and Jachin;
11 RV and Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam; the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God; BSB BSB: Azariah son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief official of God’s temple;
12 RV and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; BSB BSB: Adaiah son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah; Maasai son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;
13 RV and their brethren, heads of their fathers’ houses, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God. BSB BSB: and 1,760 of their relatives, the heads of their families, able men for the work of the service of the house of God.
14 RV And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; BSB BSB: From the Levites: Shemaiah son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, a descendant of Merari;
15 RV and Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; BSB BSB: Bakbakkar, Heresh, Galal, and Mattaniah son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;
16 RV and Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. BSB BSB: Obadiah son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun; and Berechiah son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who lived in the villages of the Netophathites.
17 RV And the porters; Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief; BSB BSB: These were the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives. Shallum was their chief;
18 RV who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were the porters for the camp of the children of Levi. BSB BSB: he was previously stationed at the King’s Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites.
19 RV And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of his father’s house, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers had been over the camp of the LORD, keepers of the entry; BSB BSB: Shallum son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his relatives from the Korahites were assigned to guard the thresholds of the Tent, just as their fathers had been assigned to guard the entrance to the dwelling of the LORD.
20 RV And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. BSB BSB: In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
21 RV Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tent of meeting. BSB BSB: Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
22 RV All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office. BSB BSB: The number of those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds was 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their positions of trust.
23 RV So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, even the house of the tabernacle, by wards. BSB BSB: So they and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the house of the LORD—the house called the Tent.
24 RV On the four sides were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south. BSB BSB: The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25 RV And their brethren, and their villages, were to come in every seven days from time to time to be with them: BSB BSB: Their relatives came from their villages at fixed times to serve with them for seven-day periods.
26 RV for the four chief porters, who were Levites, were in a set office, and were over the chambers and over the treasuries in the house of God. BSB BSB: But the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the rooms and the treasuries of the house of God.
27 RV And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge thereof was upon them, and to them pertained the opening thereof morning by morning. BSB BSB: They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
28 RV And certain of them had charge of the vessels of service; for by tale were they brought in and by tale were they taken out. BSB BSB: Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
29 RV Some of them also were appointed over the furniture, and over all the vessels of the sanctuary, and over the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices: BSB BSB: Others were put in charge of the furnishings and other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.
30 RV And some of the sons of the priests prepared the confection of the spices. BSB BSB: And some of the sons of the priests mixed the spices.
31 RV And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were baked in pans. BSB BSB: A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with baking the bread.
32 RV And some of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath. BSB BSB: Some of their Kohathite relatives were responsible for preparing the rows of the showbread every Sabbath.
33 RV And these are the singers, heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers and were free from other service : for they were employed in their work day and night. BSB BSB: Those who were musicians, the heads of Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were exempt from other duties because they were on duty day and night.
34 RV These were heads of fathers’ houses of the Levites, throughout their generations, chief men: these dwelt at Jerusalem. BSB BSB: All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs according to their genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
The Descendants of Saul 35 RV And in Gibeon there dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, whose wife’s name was Maacah: BSB BSB: Jeiel the father of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maacah.
36 RV and his firstborn son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab; BSB BSB: Abdon was his firstborn son, then Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner, Nadab,
37 RV and Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth. BSB BSB: Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah, and Mikloth.
38 RV And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, over against their brethren. BSB BSB: Mikloth was the father of Shimeam. They too lived alongside their relatives in Jerusalem.
39 RV And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchi-shua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal. BSB BSB: Ner was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal.
40 RV And the son of Jonathan was Merib-baal; and Merib-baal begat Micah. BSB BSB: The son of Jonathan: Merib-baal, who was the father of Micah.
41 RV And the sons of Micah; Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz . BSB BSB: The sons of Micah: Pithon, Melech, Tahrea, and Ahaz.
42 RV And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza: BSB BSB: Ahaz was the father of Jarah; Jarah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri was the father of Moza.
43 RV and Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son: BSB BSB: Moza was the father of Binea. Rephaiah was his son, Elasah his son, and Azel his son.
44 RV And Azel had six sons, whose names are these; Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel. BSB BSB: And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
