The Portions for the Tribes 1 RV Now these are the names of the tribes: from the north end, beside the way of Hethlon to the entering in of Hamath, Hazer-enan at the border of Damascus, northward beside Hamath; and they shall have their sides east and west; Dan, one portion . BSB BSB: “Now these are the names of the tribes: At the northern frontier, Dan will have one portion bordering the road of Hethlon to Lebo-hamath and running on to Hazar-enan on the border of Damascus with Hamath to the north, and extending from the east side to the west side.
2 RV And by the border of Dan, from the east side unto the west side; Asher, one portion . BSB BSB: Asher will have one portion bordering the territory of Dan from east to west.
3 RV And by the border of Asher, from the east side even unto the west side; Naphtali, one portion . BSB BSB: Naphtali will have one portion bordering the territory of Asher from east to west.
4 RV And by the border of Naphtali, from the east side unto the west side; Manasseh, one portion . BSB BSB: Manasseh will have one portion bordering the territory of Naphtali from east to west.
5 RV And by the border of Manasseh, from the east side unto the west side; Ephraim, one portion . BSB BSB: Ephraim will have one portion bordering the territory of Manasseh from east to west.
6 RV And by the border of Ephraim, from the east side even unto the west side; Reuben, one portion . BSB BSB: Reuben will have one portion bordering the territory of Ephraim from east to west.
7 RV And by the border of Reuben, from the east side unto the west side; Judah, portion . BSB BSB: Judah will have one portion bordering the territory of Reuben from east to west.
The Portions for the Priests and Levites 8 RV And by the border of Judah, from the east side unto the west side, shall be the oblation which ye shall offer, five and twenty thousand reeds in breadth, and in length as one of the portions, from the east side unto the west side: and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it. BSB BSB: Bordering the territory of Judah, from east to west, will be the portion you are to set apart. It will be 25,000 cubits wide, and the length of a tribal portion from east to west. In the center will be the sanctuary.
9 RV The oblation that ye shall offer unto the LORD shall be five and twenty thousand reeds in length, and ten thousand in breadth. BSB BSB: The special portion you set apart to the LORD shall be 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide.
10 RV And for these, even for the priests, shall be the holy oblation; toward the north five and twenty thousand in length , and toward the west ten thousand in breadth, and toward the east ten thousand in breadth, and toward the south five and twenty thousand in length: and the sanctuary of the LORD shall be in the midst thereof. BSB BSB: This will be the holy portion for the priests. It will be 25,000 cubits long on the north side, 10,000 cubits wide on the west side, 10,000 cubits wide on the east side, and 25,000 cubits long on the south side. In the center will be the sanctuary of the LORD.
11 RV It shall be for the priests that are sanctified of the sons of Zadok, which have kept my charge; which went not astray when the children of Israel went astray, as the Levites went astray.BSB BSB: It will be for the consecrated priests, the descendants of Zadok, who kept My charge and did not go astray as the Levites did when the Israelites went astray.
12 RV And it shall be unto them an oblation from the oblation of the land, a thing most holy, by the border of the Levites. BSB BSB: It will be a special portion for them set apart from the land, a most holy portion adjacent to the territory of the Levites.
13 RV And answerable unto the border of the priests, the Levites shall have five and twenty thousand in length, and ten thousand in breadth: all the length shall be five and twenty thousand, and the breadth ten thousand. BSB BSB: Bordering the territory of the priests, the Levites shall have an area 25,000 cubits long and 10,000 cubits wide. The whole length will be 25,000 cubits, and the width 10,000 cubits.
14 RV And they shall not sell of it, neither exchange it, nor shall the firstfruits of the land be alienated: for it is holy unto the LORD. BSB BSB: They must not sell or exchange any of it, and they must not transfer this best part of the land, for it is holy to the LORD.
The Common Portion 15 RV And the five thousand that are left in the breadth, in front of the five and twenty thousand, shall be for common use, for the city, for dwelling and for suburbs: and the city shall be in the midst thereof. BSB BSB: The remaining area, 5,000 cubits wide and 25,000 cubits long, will be for common use by the city, for houses, and for pastureland. The city will be in the center of it
16 RV And these shall be the measures thereof; the north side four thousand and five hundred; and the south side four thousand and five hundred, and on the east side four thousand and five hundred, and the west side four thousand and five hundred. BSB BSB: and will have these measurements: 4,500 cubits on the north side, 4,500 cubits on the south side, 4,500 cubits on the east side, and 4,500 cubits on the west side.
17 RV And the city shall have suburbs; toward the north two hundred and fifty, and toward the south two hundred and fifty, and toward the east two hundred and fifty, and toward the west two hundred and fifty. BSB BSB: The pastureland of the city will extend 250 cubits to the north, 250 cubits to the south, 250 cubits to the east, and 250 cubits to the west.
18 RV And the residue in the length, answerable unto the holy oblation, shall be ten thousand eastward, and ten thousand westward: and it shall be answerable unto the holy oblation; and the increase thereof shall be for food unto them that labour in the city. BSB BSB: The remainder of the length bordering the holy portion and running adjacent to it will be 10,000 cubits on the east side and 10,000 cubits on the west side. Its produce will supply food for the workers of the city.
19 RV And they that labour in the city, out of all the tribes of Israel, shall till it. BSB BSB: The workers of the city who cultivate it will come from all the tribes of Israel.
20 RV All the oblation shall be five and twenty thousand by five and twenty thousand: ye shall offer the holy oblation foursquare, with the possession of the city. BSB BSB: The entire portion will be a square, 25,000 cubits by 25,000 cubits. You are to set apart the holy portion, along with the city property.
The Portion for the Prince 21 RV And the residue shall be for the prince, on the one side and on the other of the holy oblation and of the possession of the city, in front of the five and twenty thousand of the oblation toward the east border, and westward in front of the five and twenty thousand toward the west border, answerable unto the portions, it shall be for the prince: and the holy oblation and the sanctuary of the house shall be in the midst thereof. BSB BSB: The remaining area on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city will belong to the prince. He will own the land adjacent to the tribal portions, extending eastward from the 25,000 cubits of the holy district toward the eastern border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the western border. And in the center of them will be the holy portion and the sanctuary of the temple.
22 RV Moreover from the possession of the Levites, and from the possession of the city, being in the midst of that which is the prince’s, between the border of Judah and the border of Benjamin, shall be for the prince. BSB BSB: So the Levitical property and the city property will lie in the center of the area belonging to the prince—the area between the borders of Judah and Benjamin.
The Portions for the Remaining Tribes 23 RV And as for the rest of the tribes: from the east side unto the west side; Benjamin, one portion . BSB BSB: As for the rest of the tribes: Benjamin will have one portion extending from the east side to the west side.
24 RV And by the border of Benjamin, from the east side unto the west side; Simeon, one portion . BSB BSB: Simeon will have one portion bordering the territory of Benjamin from east to west.
25 RV And by the border of Simeon, from the east side unto the west side; Issachar, one portion . BSB BSB: Issachar will have one portion bordering the territory of Simeon from east to west.
26 RV And by the border of Issachar, from the east side unto the west side; Zebulun, one portion . BSB BSB: Zebulun will have one portion bordering the territory of Issachar from east to west.
27 RV And by the border of Zebulun, from the east side unto the west side; Gad, one portion . BSB BSB: And Gad will have one portion bordering the territory of Zebulun from east to west.
28 RV And by the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar unto the waters of Meribath-kadesh, to the brook of Egypt , unto the great sea. BSB BSB: The southern border of Gad will run from Tamar to the waters of Meribath-kadesh, then along the Brook of Egypt and out to the Great Sea.
29 RV This is the land which ye shall divide by lot unto the tribes of Israel for inheritance, and these are their several portions, saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: This is the land you are to allot as an inheritance to the tribes of Israel, and these will be their portions,” declares the Lord GOD.
The City Gates and Dimensions 30 RV And these are the goings out of the city; on the north side four thousand and five hundred reeds by measure: BSB BSB: “These will be the exits of the city: Beginning on the north side, which will be 4,500 cubits long,
31 RV and the gates of the city shall be after the names of the tribes of Israel; three gates northward: the gate of Reuben, one; the gate of Judah, one; the gate of Levi, one: BSB BSB: the gates of the city will be named after the tribes of Israel. On the north side there will be three gates: the gate of Reuben, the gate of Judah, and the gate of Levi.
32 RV And at the east side four thousand and five hundred reeds ; and three gates: even the gate of Joseph, one; the gate of Benjamin, one; the gate of Dan, one: BSB BSB: On the east side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Joseph, the gate of Benjamin, and the gate of Dan.
33 RV And at the south side four thousand and five hundred reeds by measure; and three gates: the gate of Simeon, one; the gate of Issachar, one; the gate of Zebulun, one. BSB BSB: On the south side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Simeon, the gate of Issachar, and the gate of Zebulun.
34 RV At the west side four thousand and five hundred reeds , with their three gates: the gate of Gad, one; the gate of Asher, one; the gate of Naphtali, one. BSB BSB: And on the west side, which will be 4,500 cubits long, there will be three gates: the gate of Gad, the gate of Asher, and the gate of Naphtali.
35 RV It shall be eighteen thousand reeds round about: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there. BSB BSB: The perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
