Freedom in Christ 2 RV Behold, I Paul say unto you, that, if ye receive circumcision, Christ will profit you nothing. BSB BSB: Take notice: I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.
3 RV Yea, I testify again to every man that receiveth circumcision, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. BSB BSB: Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.
4 RV Ye are severed from Christ, ye who would be justified by the law; ye are fallen away from grace. BSB BSB: You who are trying to be justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.
5 RV For we through the Spirit by faith wait for the hope of righteousness. BSB BSB: But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness.
7 RV Ye were running well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? BSB BSB: You were running so well. Who has obstructed you from obeying the truth?
8 RV This persuasion came not of him that calleth you. BSB BSB: Such persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.
9 RV A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. BSB BSB: A little leaven works through the whole batch of dough.
10 RV I have confidence to you-ward in the Lord, that ye will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubleth you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be. BSB BSB: I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is troubling you will bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
11 RV But I, brethren, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still persecuted? then hath the stumblingblock of the cross been done away. BSB BSB: Now, brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished.
12 RV I would that they which unsettle you would even cut themselves off. BSB BSB: As for those who are agitating you, I wish they would proceed to emasculate themselves!
13 RV For ye, brethren, were called for freedom; only use not your freedom for an occasion to the flesh, but through love be servants one to another. BSB BSB: For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.
14 RV For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. BSB BSB: The entire law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
15 RV But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another. BSB BSB: But if you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out, or you will be consumed by one another.
Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Romans 8:9–11)
16 RV But I say, Walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. BSB BSB: So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
17 RV For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are contrary the one to the other; that ye may not do the things that ye would. BSB BSB: For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want.
18 RV But if ye are led by the Spirit, ye are not under the law. BSB BSB: But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 RV Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these , fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, BSB BSB: The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery;
20 RV idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousies, wraths, factions, divisions, heresies, BSB BSB: idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions,
21 RV envyings, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that they which practise such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 RV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, BSB BSB: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
23 RV meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. BSB BSB: gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
24 RV And they that are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with the passions and the lusts thereof. BSB BSB: Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
25 RV If we live by the Spirit, by the Spirit let us also walk. BSB BSB: Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit.
26 RV Let us not be vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another. BSB BSB: Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
