The Table of Nations (1 Chronicles 1:4–27)
1 RV Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. BSB BSB: This is the account of Noah’s sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth, who also had sons after the flood.
The Japhethites 2 RV The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. BSB BSB: The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 RV And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. BSB BSB: The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 RV And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. BSB BSB: And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, the Kittites, and the Rodanites.
5 RV Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue; after their families, in their nations. BSB BSB: From these, the maritime peoples separated into their territories, according to their languages, by clans within their nations.
The Hamites 6 RV And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan. BSB BSB: The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.
7 RV And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. BSB BSB: The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. And the sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.
8 RV And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. BSB BSB: Cush was the father of Nimrod, who began to be a mighty one on the earth.
9 RV He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD. BSB BSB: He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; so it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
10 RV And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. BSB BSB: His kingdom began in Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.
11 RV Out of that land he went forth into Assyria, and builded Nineveh, and Rehoboth-Ir, and Calah, BSB BSB: From that land he went forth into Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 RV and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city). BSB BSB: and Resen, which is between Nineveh and the great city of Calah.
13 RV And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, BSB BSB: Mizraim was the father of the Ludites, the Anamites, the Lehabites, the Naphtuhites,
14 RV and Pathrusim, and Casluhim (whence went forth the Philistines), and Caphtorim. BSB BSB: the Pathrusites, the Casluhites (from whom the Philistines came), and the Caphtorites.
15 RV And Canaan begat Zidon his firstborn, and Heth; BSB BSB: And Canaan was the father of Sidon his firstborn, and of the Hittites,
16 RV and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite; BSB BSB: the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites,
17 RV and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite; BSB BSB: the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites,
18 RV and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad. BSB BSB: the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later the Canaanite clans were scattered,
19 RV And the border of the Canaanite was from Zidon, as thou goest toward Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, unto Lasha. BSB BSB: and the borders of Canaan extended from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.
20 RV These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations. BSB BSB: These are the sons of Ham according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
The Semites 21 RV And unto Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born. BSB BSB: And sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth; Shem was the forefather of all the sons of Eber.
22 RV The sons of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram. BSB BSB: The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 RV And the sons of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash. BSB BSB: The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 RV And Arpachshad begat Shelah; and Shelah begat Eber. BSB BSB: Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.
25 RV And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan. BSB BSB: Two sons were born to Eber: One was named Peleg, because in his days the earth was divided, and his brother was named Joktan.
26 RV And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah; BSB BSB: And Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 RV and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah; BSB BSB: Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 RV and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba; BSB BSB: Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 RV and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan. BSB BSB: Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.
30 RV And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest toward Sephar, the mountain of the east. BSB BSB: Their territory extended from Mesha to Sephar, in the eastern hill country.
31 RV These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. BSB BSB: These are the sons of Shem, according to their clans, languages, lands, and nations.
32 RV These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood. BSB BSB: All these are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their generations and nations. From these the nations of the earth spread out after the flood.
