Jonah’s Prayer 1 RV Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly. BSB BSB: From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God,
2 RV And he said, I called by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he answered me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. BSB BSB: saying: “In my distress I called to the LORD, and He answered me. From the belly of Sheol I called for help, and You heard my voice.
3 RV For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, and the flood was round about me; all thy waves and thy billows passed over me. BSB BSB: For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current swirled about me; all Your breakers and waves swept over me.
4 RV And I said, am cast out from before thine eyes; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. BSB BSB: At this, I said, ‘I have been banished from Your sight; yet I will look once more toward Your holy temple.’
5 RV The waters compassed me about, even to the soul; the deep was round about me; the weeds were wrapped about my head. BSB BSB: The waters engulfed me to take my life; the watery depths closed around me; the seaweed wrapped around my head.
6 RV I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars closed upon me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from the pit, O LORD my God. BSB BSB: To the roots of the mountains I descended; the earth beneath me barred me in forever! But You raised my life from the pit, O LORD my God!
7 RV When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. BSB BSB: As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD. My prayer went up to You, to Your holy temple.
8 RV They that regard lying vanities forsake their own mercy. BSB BSB: Those who cling to worthless idols forsake His loving devotion.
9 RV But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. BSB BSB: But I, with the voice of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to You. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation is from the LORD!”
10 RV And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. BSB BSB: And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
