Walking by the Spirit (Ezekiel 36:16–38; Galatians 5:16–26)
RV There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
RV For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. BSB BSB: For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death.
RV For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: BSB BSB: For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh,
RV that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit. BSB BSB: so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
RV For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit. BSB BSB: Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
RV For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the spirit is life and peace: BSB BSB: The mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace,
RV because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be: BSB BSB: because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
RV and they that are in the flesh cannot please God. BSB BSB: Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.
RV And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. BSB BSB: But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness.
RV But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall quicken also your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you. BSB BSB: And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit, who lives in you.
Heirs with Christ 12 RV So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh: BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.
RV for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. BSB BSB: For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
RV For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. BSB BSB: For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
RV and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him , that we may be also glorified with him . BSB BSB: And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Future Glory (2 Corinthians 5:1–10)
RV that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. BSB BSB: that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
RV For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. BSB BSB: We know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until the present time.
RV And not only so, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit , the redemption of our body. BSB BSB: Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
RV For by hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth? BSB BSB: For in this hope we were saved; but hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he can already see?
RV But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. BSB BSB: But if we hope for what we do not yet see, we wait for it patiently.
RV And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity: for we know not how to pray as we ought; but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered; BSB BSB: In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words.
RV and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. BSB BSB: And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
God Works in All Things (Ephesians 1:3–14)
RV And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose. BSB BSB: And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose.
RV For whom he foreknew, he also foreordained to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren: BSB BSB: For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers.
RV and whom he foreordained, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. BSB BSB: And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.
RV Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth; BSB BSB: Who will bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.
RV who is he that shall condemn? It is Christ Jesus that died, yea rather, that was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. BSB BSB: Who is there to condemn us? For Christ Jesus, who died, and more than that was raised to life, is at the right hand of God—and He is interceding for us.
More than Conquerors (Psalm 44:1–26)
RV Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? BSB BSB: Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
RV Even as it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter. BSB BSB: As it is written: “For Your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
RV Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. BSB BSB: No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
RV For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, BSB BSB: For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 RV nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. BSB BSB: neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
