1. 1SLKČo bolo od počiatku – čo sme počuli, čo sme na vlastné oči videli, na čo sme hľadeli a čoho sa naše ruky dotýkali – to vám zvestujeme: Slovo života.BSBBSB: That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.
2. 2SLKTen život sa zjavil; my sme ho videli a prinášame vám svedectvo a správu o večnom živote, ktorý bol u Otca a zjavil sa nám.BSBBSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3. 3SLKO tom, čo sme videli a počuli, vám zvestujeme preto, aby ste mali spolu s nami účasť na spoločenstve, ktoré máme s Otcom a jeho Synom Ježišom Kristom,BSBBSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4. 4SLKaby sa tým naša radosť vzájomne znásobila.BSBBSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
5. 5SLKOdovzdávame vám posolstvo, ktoré sme prijali od Krista. Boh je svetlo a niet v ňom nijakej tmy.BSBBSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6. 6SLKAk tvrdíme, že žijeme v spojení s Bohom, a pritom chodíme v tme, klameme a náš život je nepravdivý.BSBBSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7. 7SLKAle ak stále žijeme vo svetle Božej prítomnosti, krv Ježiša Krista, jeho Syna, nás očisťuje od každého hriechu a nič nenarúša náš vzájomný vzťah.BSBBSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
8. 8SLKAle ak tvrdíme, že nehrešíme, klameme sami seba a nechceme si pripustiť pravdu.BSBBSB: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9. 9SLKAk však vyznávame svoje hriechy, smieme sa spoľahnúť na Božie sľuby, že nás očisťuje od každej nečistoty a odpustí nám každé zlyhanie.BSBBSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10. 10SLKAle ak hovoríme, že nehrešíme, robíme z Boha klamára a jeho slovo v nás nie je.BSBBSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
