1 ULB ஞானம் உள்ளவனுக்கு ஒப்பானவன் யார்? காரியத்தின் சம்பவத்தை அறிந்தவன் யார்? மனிதனுடைய ஞானம் அவனுடைய முகத்தைப் பிரகாசிக்கச்செய்யும், அவனுடைய முகத்தின் கோபம் மாறும். BSB BSB: Who is like the wise man? Who knows the interpretation of a matter? A man’s wisdom brightens his face, and the sternness of his face is changed.
2 ULB ராஜாவின் கட்டளையைக் கைக்கொண்டு நட என்று நான் உனக்கு எச்சரிக்கிறேன்; நீ தேவனுக்கு செய்த ஆணையின்படி இதைச் செய். BSB BSB: Keep the king’s command, I say, because of your oath before God.
3 ULB நீ அவனுடைய சமுகத்தைவிட்டு விலக அவசரப்படாதே; பொல்லாத காரியத்திலே பிடிவாதமாக நில்லாதே: அவன் தனக்கு விருப்பமானதெல்லாம் செய்வான். BSB BSB: Do not hasten to leave his presence, and do not persist in a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases.
4 ULB ராஜாவின் வார்த்தை எங்கேயோ அங்கே அதிகாரம் உண்டு; நீர் என்ன செய்கிறீர் என்று அவனுக்குச் சொல்லக்கூடியவன் யார்? BSB BSB: For the king’s word is supreme, and who can say to him, “What are you doing?”
5 ULB கற்பனையைக் கைக்கொள்ளுகிறவன் ஒரு தீங்கையும் அறியான்; ஞானியின் இருதயம் காலத்தையும் நியாயத்தையும் அறியும். BSB BSB: Whoever keeps his command will come to no harm, and a wise heart knows the right time and procedure.
6 ULB எல்லாக் காரியத்திற்கும் காலமும் நியாயமும் உண்டு; ஆதலால் மனிதனுக்கு நேரிடும் கலக்கம் மிகுதி. BSB BSB: For there is a right time and procedure to every purpose, though a man’s misery weighs heavily upon him.
7 ULB இன்னது நடக்கும் என்று அவன் அறியானே; அது இன்னவிதமாக நடக்கும் என்று அவனுக்கு சொல்லக்கூடியவன் யார்? BSB BSB: Since no one knows what will happen, who can tell him what is to come?
8 ULB ஆவியை விடாமல் இருக்கிறதற்கு ஆவியின்மேல் ஒரு மனிதனுக்கும் அதிகாரமில்லை; மரணநாளின்மேலும் அவனுக்கு அதிகாரமில்லை; அந்தப் போருக்கு நீங்கிப்போவதுமில்லை; துன்மார்க்கர்களைத் துன்மார்க்கம் விடுவிக்கவுமாட்டாது. BSB BSB: As no man has power over the wind to contain it, so no one has authority over his day of death. As no one can be discharged in wartime, so wickedness will not release those who practice it.
9 ULB இவையெல்லாவற்றையும் நான் பார்த்து, சூரியனுக்குக் கீழே செய்யப்படும் எல்லா செயல்களையும் சிந்தித்தேன்; ஒரு மனிதன் தனக்கே கேடுண்டாக வேறொரு மனிதனை ஆளுகிற காலமும் உண்டு. BSB BSB: All this I have seen, applying my mind to every deed that is done under the sun; there is a time when one man lords it over another to his own detriment.
10 ULB பரிசுத்த இடத்திற்குப் போக்குவரவு செய்த துன்மார்க்கர்கள் அடக்கம்செய்யப்பட்டதைக் கண்டேன்; அவர்கள் அப்படிச் செய்துவந்த பட்டணத்திலேயே மறக்கப்பட்டுப்போனார்கள்; இதுவும் மாயையே. BSB BSB: Then too, I saw the burial of the wicked who used to go in and out of the holy place, and they were praised in the city where they had done so. This too is futile.
11 ULB தீயசெயல்களுக்குத்தகுந்த தண்டனைச் சீக்கிரமாக நடவாதபடியால், மனிதர்களின் இருதயம் பொல்லாப்பைச் செய்ய அவர்களுக்குள்ளே துணிகரம் கொண்டிருக்கிறது. BSB BSB: When the sentence for a crime is not speedily executed, the hearts of men become fully set on doing evil.
12 ULB பாவி நூறுதரம் பொல்லாப்பைச் செய்து நீடித்து வாழ்ந்தாலும் என்ன? தேவனுக்கு அஞ்சி, அவருக்கு முன்பாகப் பயந்திருப்பவர்களே நன்றாக இருப்பார்கள் என்று அறிந்திருக்கிறேன். BSB BSB: Although a sinner does evil a hundred times and still lives long, yet I also know that it will go well with those who fear God, who are reverent in His presence.
13 ULB துன்மார்க்கனோ நன்றாக இருப்பதில்லை; அவன் தேவனுக்கு முன்பாக பயப்படாமல் இருக்கிறபடியால், நிழலைப்போலிருக்கிற அவனுடைய வாழ்நாட்கள் நீடித்திருப்பதுமில்லை. BSB BSB: Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.
14 ULB பூமியின்மேல் நடக்கிற வேறொரு மாயையான காரியமும் உண்டு; அதாவது, துன்மார்க்கர்களின் செய்கைக்கு வருவதுபோல, நீதிமான்களுக்கும் வரும்; நீதிமான்களின் செய்கைக்கு வருவதுபோல, துன்மார்க்கர்களுக்கும் வரும்; இதுவும் மாயை என்றேன். BSB BSB: There is a futility that is done on the earth: There are righteous men who get what the actions of the wicked deserve, and there are wicked men who get what the actions of the righteous deserve. I say that this too is futile.
15 ULB ஆகையால் நான் மகிழ்ச்சியைப் புகழ்ந்தேன்; சாப்பிடுவதும் குடிப்பதும் மகிழ்வதுமே தவிர சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே மனிதனுக்கு வேறொரு நன்மையும் இல்லை; சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே தேவன் அவனுக்கு கொடுத்த வாழ்நாளில் அவனுடைய பிரயாசத்தினால் அவனுக்கு நிலைக்கும் பலன் இதுவே. BSB BSB: So I commended the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be merry. For this joy will accompany him in his labor during the days of his life that God gives him under the sun.
16 ULB நான் ஞானத்தை அறியவும், மனிதன் இரவும் பகலும் கண்ணுக்கு தூக்கம் இல்லாமல் பூமியிலே செய்யும் வேலைகளைப் பார்க்கவும் என்னுடைய மனதை செலுத்தினபோது, BSB BSB: When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the task that one performs on the earth—though his eyes do not see sleep in the day or even in the night—
17 ULB தேவன் செய்யும் எல்லா செயல்களையும் நான் கவனித்துப்பார்த்து, சூரியனுக்குக்கீழே செய்யப்படும் செய்கையை மனிதன் கண்டுபிடிக்கமுடியாதென்று கண்டேன். அதை அறியும்படி மனிதன் முயற்சித்தாலும் அறியமாட்டான்; அதை அறியலாம் என்று ஞானி எண்ணினாலும் அவனும் அதை அறிந்துகொள்ளமாட்டான். BSB BSB: I saw every work of God, and that a man is unable to comprehend the work that is done under the sun. Despite his efforts to search it out, he cannot find its meaning; even if the wise man claims to know, he is unable to comprehend.
