The Resurrection of Christ 2 WBS By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached to you, unless ye have believed in vain. BSB BSB: By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
WBS And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: BSB BSB: that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
WBS And that he was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve: BSB BSB: and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve.
WBS After that he was seen by James; then by all the apostles. BSB BSB: Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles.
WBS And last of all he was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. BSB BSB: And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth.
WBS For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. BSB BSB: For I am the least of the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
WBS But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me, was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. BSB BSB: But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not in vain. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.
The Resurrection of the Dead 13 WBS But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not raised. BSB BSB: If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised.
WBS And indeed we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified concerning God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not, if in truth the dead rise not. BSB BSB: In that case, we are also exposed as false witnesses about God. For we have testified about God that He raised Christ from the dead, but He did not raise Him if in fact the dead are not raised.
WBS For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: BSB BSB: For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised.
WBS And if Christ is not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. BSB BSB: And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.
WBS Then they also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. BSB BSB: Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
WBS If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. BSB BSB: If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men.
The Order of Resurrection 22 WBS For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. BSB BSB: For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
WBS But every man in his own order: Christ the first-fruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. BSB BSB: But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.
WBS Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and power. BSB BSB: Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power.
WBS For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. BSB BSB: For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet.
WBS The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death. BSB BSB: The last enemy to be destroyed is death.
WBS For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him , it is manifest that he is excepted who did put all things under him. BSB BSB: For “God has put everything under His feet.” Now when it says that everything has been put under Him, this clearly does not include the One who put everything under Him.
WBS And when all things shall be subdued to him, then shall the Son also himself be subject to him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. BSB BSB: And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.
WBS Else what will they do, who are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead? BSB BSB: If these things are not so, what will those do who are baptized for the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized for them?
WBS And why stand we in jeopardy every hour? BSB BSB: And why do we endanger ourselves every hour?
WBS I protest by your rejoicing which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily. BSB BSB: I face death every day, brothers, as surely as I boast about you in Christ Jesus our Lord.
WBS If after the manner of men I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me, if the dead rise not? let us eat and drink; for to-morrow we die. BSB BSB: If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for human motives, what did I gain? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.”
WBS Be not deceived: Evil communications corrupt good manners. BSB BSB: Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good character.”
WBS Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. BSB BSB: Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.
The Resurrection Body 36 WBS Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not vivified except it die:BSB BSB: You fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
WBS And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain; it may be of wheat, or of some other grain : BSB BSB: And what you sow is not the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or something else.
WBS But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed its own body. BSB BSB: But God gives it a body as He has designed, and to each kind of seed He gives its own body.
WBS All flesh is not the same flesh; but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of fowls. BSB BSB: Not all flesh is the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another, and fish another.
WBS There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.BSB BSB: There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies. But the splendor of the heavenly bodies is of one degree, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is of another.
WBS There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for one star differeth from another star in glory.BSB BSB: The sun has one degree of splendor, the moon another, and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
WBS It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power: BSB BSB: It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power.
WBS It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. BSB BSB: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
WBS And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul, the last Adam was made a vivifying spirit. BSB BSB: So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam a life-giving spirit.
WBS However, that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. BSB BSB: The spiritual, however, was not first, but the natural, and then the spiritual.
WBS The first man is from the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. BSB BSB: The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.
WBS As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. BSB BSB: As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.
WBS And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. BSB BSB: And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so also shall we bear the likeness of the heavenly man.
Where, O Death, Is Your Victory? (Hosea 13:9–14)
WBS Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. BSB BSB: Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.
WBS Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, BSB BSB: Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
WBS In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. BSB BSB: in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
WBS For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. BSB BSB: For the perishable must be clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
WBS So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. BSB BSB: When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come to pass: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
WBS O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? BSB BSB: “Where, O Death, is your victory? Where, O Death, is your sting?”
WBS The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. BSB BSB: The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
WBS But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory, through our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
WBS Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. BSB BSB: Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast and immovable. Always excel in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
