God’s Fellow Workers (Hebrews 5:11–14)
WBS And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual, but as to carnal, even as to babes in Christ. BSB BSB: Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly—as infants in Christ.
WBS I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it , neither yet now are ye able. BSB BSB: I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready,
WBS For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? BSB BSB: for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?
WBS For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? BSB BSB: For when one of you says, “I follow Paul,” and another, “I follow Apollos,” are you not mere men?
WBS Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? BSB BSB: What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, as the Lord has assigned to each his role.
WBS I have planted, Apollos watered: but God hath given the increase. BSB BSB: I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
WBS So then, neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth: but God that giveth the increase. BSB BSB: So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
WBS Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labor. BSB BSB: He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
WBS For we are laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building. BSB BSB: For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
Christ Our Foundation (Isaiah 28:14–22; Ephesians 2:19–22; 1 Peter 2:1–8)
WBS According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master-builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth upon it. But let every man take heed how he buildeth upon it. BSB BSB: By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds.
WBS For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
WBS Now if any man buildeth upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; BSB BSB: If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,
WBS Every man's work will be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try every man's work, of what sort it is. BSB BSB: his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work.
WBS If any man's work abideth which he hath built upon it, he shall receive a reward. BSB BSB: If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward.
WBS If any man's work shall be burned, he will suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. BSB BSB: If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames.
God’s Temple and God’s Wisdom (Romans 12:1–8; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20)
WBS Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? BSB BSB: Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?
WBS If any man defileth the temple of God, him will God destroy: for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. BSB BSB: If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
WBS Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. BSB BSB: Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise.
WBS For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. BSB BSB: For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”
WBS And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. BSB BSB: And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”
WBS Therefore let no man glory in men: for all things are yours: BSB BSB: Therefore, stop boasting in men. All things are yours,
WBS Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours; BSB BSB: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future. All of them belong to you,
WBS And ye are Christ's; and Christ is God's. BSB BSB: and you belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
