Immorality Rebuked (Leviticus 20:10–21; Proverbs 5:1–23)
WBS It is reported commonly that there is lewdness among you, and such lewdness as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father's wife. BSB BSB: It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is intolerable even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife.
WBS And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who hath done this deed might be taken away from among you. BSB BSB: And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been stricken with grief and have removed from your fellowship the man who did this?
WBS For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, BSB BSB: Although I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit, and I have already pronounced judgment on the one who did this, just as if I were present.
WBS In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are assembled, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, BSB BSB: When you are assembled in the name of our Lord Jesus and I am with you in spirit, along with the power of the Lord Jesus,
WBS To deliver such one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. BSB BSB: hand this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the Day of the Lord.
WBS Your boasting is not good. Know ye not, that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? BSB BSB: Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough?
WBS Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. BSB BSB: Therefore let us keep the feast, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.
Expel the Immoral Brother 9 WBS I have written to you in this epistle, not to associate with persons guilty of lewdness: BSB BSB: I wrote you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people.
WBS Yet not altogether with lewd persons of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters: for then ye must needs go out of the world. BSB BSB: I was not including the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world.
WBS But now I have written to you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother is a lewd person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner: with such person no not to eat. BSB BSB: But now I am writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a verbal abuser, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
WBS For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do ye not judge them that are within? BSB BSB: What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?
WBS But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person. BSB BSB: God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked man from among you.”
