Jesus Our Advocate 1 WBS My little children, these things I write to you, that ye sin not. And if any man sinneth, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: BSB BSB: My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate before the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
WBS And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. BSB BSB: He Himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.
WBS And by this we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. BSB BSB: By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments.
WBS He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. BSB BSB: If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
WBS But whoever keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: by this we know that we are in him. BSB BSB: But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him:
WBS He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. BSB BSB: Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.
A New Commandment 7 WBS Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning: The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. BSB BSB: Beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but an old one, which you have had from the beginning. This commandment is the message you have heard.
WBS Again, a new commandment I write to you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. BSB BSB: Then again, I am also writing to you a new commandment, which is true in Him and also in you. For the darkness is fading and the true light is already shining.
WBS He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. BSB BSB: If anyone claims to be in the light but hates his brother, he is still in the darkness.
WBS He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is no occasion of stumbling in him. BSB BSB: Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no cause of stumbling in him.
WBS But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because darkness hath blinded his eyes. BSB BSB: But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
WBS I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. BSB BSB: I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven through His name.
WBS I write to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father. BSB BSB: I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.
WBS I have written to you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. BSB BSB: I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
Do Not Love the World 15 WBS Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him. BSB BSB: Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
WBS For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. BSB BSB: For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world.
WBS And the world passeth away, and the lust of it: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. BSB BSB: The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.
Beware of Antichrists 18 WBS Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist cometh, even now are there many antichrists; by which we know that it is the last time. BSB BSB: Children, it is the last hour; and just as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour.
WBS But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. BSB BSB: You, however, have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
WBS I have not written to you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. BSB BSB: I have not written to you because you lack knowledge of the truth, but because you have it, and because no lie comes from the truth.
WBS Whoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: but he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. BSB BSB: Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father, but whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well.
Remain in Christ 24 WBS Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. BSB BSB: As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If it does, you will also remain in the Son and in the Father.
WBS And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life. BSB BSB: And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life.
WBS These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you. BSB BSB: I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
WBS But the anointing which ye have received from him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man should teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you concerning all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. BSB BSB: And as for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But just as His true and genuine anointing teaches you about all things, so remain in Him as you have been taught.
WBS And now, little children, abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. BSB BSB: And now, little children, remain in Christ, so that when He appears, we may be confident and unashamed before Him at His coming.
WBS If ye know that he is righteous ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. BSB BSB: If you know that He is righteous, you also know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of Him.
