A Greeting from Peter (1 Peter 1:1–2)
WBS Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ: BSB BSB: Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:
WBS Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, BSB BSB: Grace and peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
Partakers of the Divine Nature 3 WBS According as his divine power hath given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: BSB BSB: His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
WBS And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; BSB BSB: For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge;
WBS And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; BSB BSB: and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;
WBS And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. BSB BSB: and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.
WBS For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: For if you possess these qualities and continue to grow in them, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
WBS But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purified from his old sins. BSB BSB: But whoever lacks these traits is nearsighted to the point of blindness, having forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
WBS Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: BSB BSB: Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure. For if you practice these things you will never stumble,
WBS For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: and you will receive a lavish reception into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
WBS Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them , and are established in the present truth. BSB BSB: Therefore I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are established in the truth you now have.
WBS Indeed, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; BSB BSB: I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of my body,
WBS Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me. BSB BSB: because I know that this tent will soon be laid aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
WBS Moreover, I will endeavor that ye may be able, after my decease, to have these things always in remembrance. BSB BSB: And I will make every effort to ensure that after my departure, you will be able to recall these things at all times.
Eyewitnesses of His Majesty (Matthew 17:1–13; Mark 9:1–13; Luke 9:28–36)
WBS For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. BSB BSB: For He received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
WBS And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him on the holy mount. BSB BSB: And we ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
WBS We have also a more sure word of prophecy; to which ye do well that ye take heed, as to a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts: BSB BSB: We also have the word of the prophets as confirmed beyond doubt. And you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
WBS Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. BSB BSB: Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation.
WBS For prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
