The Slaughter of Gog’s Armies 1 WBS Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: BSB BSB: “As for you, O son of man, prophesy against Gog and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, chief prince of Meshech and Tubal.
2 WBS And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel: BSB BSB: I will turn you around, drive you along, bring you up from the far north, and send you against the mountains of Israel.
3 WBS And I will strike thy bow out of thy left hand, and I will cause thy arrows to fall from thy right hand. BSB BSB: Then I will strike the bow from your left hand and dash down the arrows from your right hand.
4 WBS Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that are with thee: I will give thee to the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured. BSB BSB: On the mountains of Israel you will fall—you and all your troops and the nations with you. I will give you as food to every kind of ravenous bird and wild beast.
5 WBS Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken it , saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: You will fall in the open field, for I have spoken, declares the Lord GOD.
6 WBS And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the LORD. BSB BSB: I will send fire on Magog and on those who dwell securely in the coastlands, and they will know that I am the LORD.
7 WBS So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them profane my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel. BSB BSB: So I will make My holy name known among My people Israel and will no longer allow it to be profaned. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
8 WBS Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this is the day of which I have spoken. BSB BSB: Yes, it is coming, and it will surely happen, declares the Lord GOD. This is the day of which I have spoken.
9 WBS And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaffs, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years: BSB BSB: Then those who dwell in the cities of Israel will go out, kindle fires, and burn up the weapons—the bucklers and shields, the bows and arrows, the clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.
10 WBS So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down any out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall lay waste those that wasted them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: They will not gather wood from the countryside or cut it from the forests, for they will use the weapons for fuel. They will loot those who looted them and plunder those who plundered them, declares the Lord GOD.
11 WBS And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give to Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamon-gog. BSB BSB: And on that day I will give Gog a burial place in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the Sea. It will block those who travel through, because Gog and all his hordes will be buried there. So it will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog.
12 WBS And seven months shall the house of Israel be in burying them, that they may cleanse the land. BSB BSB: For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land.
13 WBS Yes, all the people of the land shall bury them : and it shall be to them a renown in the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day I display My glory, declares the Lord GOD.
14 WBS And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. BSB BSB: And men will be employed to continually pass through the land to cleanse it by burying the invaders who remain on the ground. At the end of the seven months they will begin their search.
15 WBS And as passengers pass through the land, when any seeth a man's bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamon-gog. BSB BSB: As they pass through the land, anyone who sees a human bone will set up a pillar next to it, until the gravediggers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon-gog.
16 WBS And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land. BSB BSB: (Even the city will be named Hamonah.) And so they will cleanse the land.
17 WBS And, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord GOD; Speak to every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field, Assemble yourselves, and come; gather yourselves on every side to my sacrifice that I do sacrifice for you, even a great sacrifice upon the mountains of Israel, that ye may eat flesh, and drink blood. BSB BSB: And as for you, son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says: Call out to every kind of bird and to every beast of the field: ‘Assemble and come together from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great feast on the mountains of Israel. There you will eat flesh and drink blood.
18 WBS Ye shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fatlings of Bashan. BSB BSB: You will eat the flesh of the mighty and drink the blood of the princes of the earth as though they were rams, lambs, goats, and bulls—all the fattened animals of Bashan.
19 WBS And ye shall eat fat till ye are full, and drink blood till ye are drunken, of my sacrifice which I have sacrificed for you. BSB BSB: At the sacrifice I am preparing, you will eat fat until you are gorged and drink blood until you are drunk.
20 WBS Thus ye shall be filled at my table with horses and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: And at My table you will eat your fill of horses and riders, of mighty men and warriors of every kind,’ declares the Lord GOD.
Israel to Be Restored 21 WBS And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. BSB BSB: I will display My glory among the nations, and all the nations will see the judgment that I execute and the hand that I lay upon them.
22 WBS So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward. BSB BSB: From that day forward the house of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.
23 WBS And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore I hid my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so they all fell by the sword. BSB BSB: And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity, because they were unfaithful to Me. So I hid My face from them and delivered them into the hands of their enemies, so that they all fell by the sword.
24 WBS According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done to them, and hid my face from them. BSB BSB: I dealt with them according to their uncleanness and transgressions, and I hid My face from them.
25 WBS Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; BSB BSB: Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Now I will restore Jacob from captivity and will have compassion on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for My holy name.
26 WBS After they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses by which they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. BSB BSB: They will forget their disgrace and all the treachery they committed against Me, when they dwell securely in their land, with no one to frighten them.
27 WBS When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of the lands of their enemies, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; BSB BSB: When I bring them back from the peoples and gather them out of the lands of their enemies, I will show My holiness in them in the sight of many nations.
28 WBS Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, who caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them to their own land, and have left none of them there any more. BSB BSB: Then they will know that I am the LORD their God, when I regather them to their own land, not leaving any of them behind after their exile among the nations.
29 WBS Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD. BSB BSB: And I will no longer hide My face from them, for I will pour out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Lord GOD.”
