1Now these are the children of the province that went up from the captivity, of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away to Babylon, and came again to Jerusalem and Judah, every one to his city;Now these are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles carried away to Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar its king. They returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his own town,

58All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.The temple servants and descendants of the servants of Solomon numbered 392 in all.

59And these were they who went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsa, Cherub, Addan, and Immer: but they could not show their fathers' house, and their seed, whether they were of Israel:The following came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, but they could not prove that their families were descended from Israel:

60The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two.the descendants of Delaiah, the descendants of Tobiah, and the descendants of Nekoda, 652 in all.

61And of the children of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai: who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name:And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai (who had married a daughter of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by their name).

62These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but they were not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.These men searched for their family records, but they could not find them and so were excluded from the priesthood as unclean.

63And the Tirshatha said to them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and with Thummim.The governor ordered them not to eat the most holy things until there was a priest to consult the Urim and Thummim.

64The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and sixty,The whole assembly numbered 42,360,

65Besides their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing-men and singing-women.in addition to their 7,337 menservants and maidservants, as well as their 200 male and female singers.

66Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;They had 736 horses, 245 mules,

67Their camels, four hundred thirty and five; their asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.435 camels, and 6,720 donkeys.

68And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the LORD which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in its place:When they arrived at the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, some of the heads of the families gave freewill offerings to rebuild the house of God on its original site.

69They gave after their ability to the treasure of the work sixty and one thousand drams of gold, and five thousand pounds of silver, and one hundred priests garments.According to their ability, they gave to the treasury for this work 61,000 darics of gold, 5,000 minas of silver, and 100 priestly garments.

70So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, dwelt in their cities, and all Israel in their cities.So the priests, the Levites, the singers, the gatekeepers, and the temple servants, along with some of the people, settled in their own towns; and the rest of the Israelites settled in their towns.
