Genesis 8 Genesis 8
The flood and the nations
The Ark Rests on Ararat 1 WBS And God remembered Noah, and every living animal, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters were checked. BSB BSB: But God remembered Noah and all the animals and livestock that were with him in the ark. And God sent a wind over the earth, and the waters began to subside.
2 WBS The fountains also of the deep, and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained; BSB BSB: The springs of the deep and the floodgates of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the sky was restrained.
3 WBS And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. BSB BSB: The waters receded steadily from the earth, and after 150 days the waters had gone down.
4 WBS And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. BSB BSB: On the seventeenth day of the seventh month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
5 WBS And the waters decreased continually, till the tenth month: in the tenth month , on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. BSB BSB: And the waters continued to recede until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains became visible.
Noah Sends a Raven and a Dove 6 WBS And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: BSB BSB: After forty days Noah opened the window he had made in the ark
7 WBS And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, till the waters were dried from off the earth. BSB BSB: and sent out a raven. It kept flying back and forth until the waters had dried up from the earth.
8 WBS Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; BSB BSB: Then Noah sent out a dove to see if the waters had receded from the surface of the ground.
9 WBS But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned to him into the ark; for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. Then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in to him into the ark. BSB BSB: But the dove found no place to rest her foot, and she returned to him in the ark, because the waters were still covering the surface of all the earth. So he reached out his hand and brought her back inside the ark.
10 WBS And he stayed yet other seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; BSB BSB: Noah waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark.
11 WBS And the dove came in to him in the evening, and lo, in her mouth was an olive-leaf plucked off: So Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. BSB BSB: And behold, the dove returned to him in the evening with a freshly plucked olive leaf in her beak. So Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth.
12 WBS And he stayed yet other seven days, and sent forth the dove; which returned not again to him any more. BSB BSB: And Noah waited seven more days and sent out the dove again, but this time she did not return to him.
Exiting the Ark 13 WBS And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month , the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. BSB BSB: In Noah’s six hundred and first year, on the first day of the first month, the waters had dried up from the earth. So Noah removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.
14 WBS And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. BSB BSB: By the twenty-seventh day of the second month, the earth was fully dry.
15 WBS And God spoke to Noah, saying, BSB BSB: Then God said to Noah,
16 WBS Go forth from the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee. BSB BSB: “Come out of the ark, you and your wife, along with your sons and their wives.
17 WBS Bring forth with thee every living animal that is with thee, of all flesh, of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping animal that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly on the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. BSB BSB: Bring out all the living creatures that are with you—birds, livestock, and everything that crawls upon the ground—so that they can spread out over the earth and be fruitful and multiply upon it.”
18 WBS And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him: BSB BSB: So Noah came out, along with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives.
19 WBS Every beast, every creeping animal, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went out of the ark. BSB BSB: Every living creature, every creeping thing, and every bird—everything that moves upon the earth—came out of the ark, kind by kind.
Noah Builds an Altar 20 WBS And Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar. BSB BSB: Then Noah built an altar to the LORD. And taking from every kind of clean animal and clean bird, he offered burnt offerings on the altar.
21 WBS And the LORD smelled a sweet savor; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth: neither will I again smite any more every living animal as I have done. BSB BSB: When the LORD smelled the pleasing aroma, He said in His heart, “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from his youth. And never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done.
22 WBS While the earth remaineth, seed-time and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. BSB BSB: As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall never cease.”
