Rules about Valuations 1 WBS And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, BSB BSB: Then the LORD said to Moses,
WBS Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, When a man shall make a singular vow, the persons shall be for the LORD, by thy estimation. BSB BSB: “Speak to the Israelites and say to them, ‘When someone makes a special vow to the LORD involving the value of persons,
WBS And thy estimation shall be, of the male from twenty years old even to sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. BSB BSB: if the valuation concerns a male from twenty to sixty years of age, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel.
WBS And if it shall be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels. BSB BSB: Or if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels.
WBS And if it shall be from five years old even to twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels. BSB BSB: And if the person is from five to twenty years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
WBS And if it shall be from a month old even to five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver. BSB BSB: Now if the person is from one month to five years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be five shekels of silver, and for the female three shekels of silver.
WBS And if it shall be from sixty years old and above; if a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels. BSB BSB: And if the person is sixty years of age or older, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels for the male and ten shekels for the female.
WBS But if he shall be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him: according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him. BSB BSB: But if the one making the vow is too poor to pay the valuation, he is to present the person before the priest, who shall set the value according to what the one making the vow can afford.
WBS And if it shall be a beast of which men bring an offering to the LORD, all that any man giveth of such to the LORD shall be holy. BSB BSB: If he vows an animal that may be brought as an offering to the LORD, any such animal given to the LORD shall be holy.
WBS He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then it and the exchange of it shall be holy. BSB BSB: He must not replace it or exchange it, either good for bad or bad for good. But if he does substitute one animal for another, both that animal and its substitute will be holy.
WBS And if it shall be any unclean beast, of which they do not offer a sacrifice to the LORD, then he shall present the beast before the priest: BSB BSB: But if the vow involves any of the unclean animals that may not be brought as an offering to the LORD, the animal must be presented before the priest.
WBS And the priest shall value it, whether it be good or bad: as thou valuest it, who art the priest, so shall it be. BSB BSB: The priest shall set its value, whether high or low; as the priest values it, the price will be set.
WBS But if he will at all redeem it, then he shall add a fifth part of it to thy estimation. BSB BSB: If, however, the owner decides to redeem the animal, he must add a fifth to its value.
WBS And when a man shall sanctify his house to be holy to the LORD, then the priest shall estimate it, whether it is good or bad: as the priest shall estimate it, so shall it stand. BSB BSB: Now if a man consecrates his house as holy to the LORD, then the priest shall value it either as good or bad. The price will stand just as the priest values it.
WBS And if he that sanctified it will redeem his house, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation to it, and it shall be his. BSB BSB: But if he who consecrated his house redeems it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it will belong to him.
WBS And if a man shall sanctify to the LORD some part of a field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the seed of it: a homer of barley seed shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver. BSB BSB: If a man consecrates to the LORD a parcel of his land, then your valuation shall be proportional to the seed required for it—fifty shekels of silver for every homer of barley seed.
WBS If he shall sanctify his field from the year of jubilee, according to thy estimation it shall stand. BSB BSB: If he consecrates his field during the Year of Jubilee, the price will stand according to your valuation.
WBS But if he shall sanctify his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall reckon to him the money according to the years that remain, even to the year of the jubilee, and it shall be abated from thy estimation. BSB BSB: But if he consecrates his field after the Jubilee, the priest is to calculate the price in proportion to the years left until the next Year of Jubilee, so that your valuation will be reduced.
WBS And if he that sanctified the field will in any wise redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation to it, and it shall be assured to him. BSB BSB: And if the one who consecrated the field decides to redeem it, he must add a fifth to the assessed value, and it shall belong to him.
WBS And if he will not redeem the field, or if he shall have sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more. BSB BSB: If, however, he does not redeem the field, or if he has sold it to another man, it may no longer be redeemed.
WBS But the field, when it goeth out in the jubilee, shall be holy to the LORD, as a field devoted: the possession of it shall be the priest's. BSB BSB: When the field is released in the Jubilee, it will become holy, like a field devoted to the LORD; it becomes the property of the priests.
WBS And if a man shall sanctify to the LORD a field which he hath bought, which is not of the fields of his possession; BSB BSB: Now if a man consecrates to the LORD a field he has purchased, which is not a part of his own property,
WBS Then the priest shall reckon to him the worth of thy estimation, even to the year of the jubilee, and he shall give thy estimation in that day, as a holy thing to the LORD. BSB BSB: then the priest shall calculate for him the value up to the Year of Jubilee, and the man shall pay the assessed value on that day as a sacred offering to the LORD.
WBS In the year of the jubilee, the field shall return to him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land belonged . BSB BSB: In the Year of Jubilee the field shall return to the one from whom it was bought—the original owner of the land.
WBS And all thy estimations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall be the shekel. BSB BSB: Every valuation will be according to the sanctuary shekel, twenty gerahs to the shekel.
WBS Only the firstling of the beasts, which should be the LORD'S firstling, no man shall sanctify it; whether ox, or sheep: it is the LORD'S. BSB BSB: But no one may consecrate a firstborn of the livestock, because a firstborn belongs to the LORD. Whether it is an ox or a sheep, it is the LORD’s.
WBS And if it shall be of an unclean beast, then he shall redeem it , according to thy estimation, and shall add to it a fifth part of it: or if it shall be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation. BSB BSB: But if it is among the unclean animals, then he may redeem it according to your valuation and add a fifth of its value. If it is not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to your valuation.
WBS Notwithstanding, no devoted thing that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he hath, both of man and beast, and of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. BSB BSB: Nothing that a man sets apart to the LORD from all he owns—whether a man, an animal, or his inherited land—can be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the LORD.
WBS None devoted, which shall be devoted by men, shall be redeemed: but shall surely be put to death. BSB BSB: No person set apart for destruction may be ransomed; he must surely be put to death.
Instruction on Tithes (Deuteronomy 14:22–29; Deuteronomy 26:1–15; Nehemiah 13:10–14)
WBS And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy to the LORD. BSB BSB: Thus any tithe from the land, whether from the seed of the land or the fruit of the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
WBS And if a man will at all redeem aught of his tithes, he shall add to it the fifth part of it. BSB BSB: If a man wishes to redeem part of his tithe, he must add a fifth to its value.
WBS And concerning the tithe of the herd, or of the flock, even of whatever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy to the LORD. BSB BSB: Every tenth animal from the herd or flock that passes under the shepherd’s rod will be holy to the LORD.
WBS He shall not search whether it is good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he shall change it at all, then both it and the change of it shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed. BSB BSB: He must not inspect whether it is good or bad, and he shall not make any substitution. But if he does make a substitution, both the animal and its substitute shall become holy; they cannot be redeemed.’”
WBS These are the commandments which the LORD commanded Moses for the children of Israel in mount Sinai. BSB BSB: These are the commandments that the LORD gave to Moses for the Israelites on Mount Sinai.
