Jesus Sends the Seventy-Two (Matthew 9:35–38)
WBS After these things, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city, and place, whither he himself would come. BSB BSB: After this, the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place He was about to visit.
WBS Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. BSB BSB: And He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest.
WBS Go: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. BSB BSB: Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
WBS Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. BSB BSB: Carry no purse or bag or sandals. Do not greet anyone along the road.
WBS And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. BSB BSB: Whatever house you enter, begin by saying, ‘Peace to this house.’
WBS And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. BSB BSB: Stay at the same house, eating and drinking whatever you are offered. For the worker is worthy of his wages. Do not move around from house to house.
WBS And into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. BSB BSB: If you enter a town and they welcome you, eat whatever is set before you.
WBS And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you. BSB BSB: Heal the sick who are there and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God is near you.’
WBS But into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same, and say, BSB BSB: But if you enter a town and they do not welcome you, go into the streets and declare,
WBS Even the very dust of your city which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding, be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh to you. BSB BSB: ‘Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet, we wipe off as a testimony against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.’
WBS But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. BSB BSB: I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.
Woe to the Unrepentant (Matthew 11:20–24)
WBS Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented sitting in sackcloth and ashes. BSB BSB: Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
WBS But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. BSB BSB: But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.
WBS And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shall be thrust down to hell. BSB BSB: And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to heaven? No, you will be brought down to Hades!
WBS He that heareth you, heareth me; and he that despiseth you, despiseth me; and he that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me. BSB BSB: Whoever listens to you listens to Me; whoever rejects you rejects Me; and whoever rejects Me rejects the One who sent Me.”
The Joyful Return 17 WBS And the seventy returned with joy, saying, Lord, even the demons are subject to us through thy name. BSB BSB: The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your name.”
WBS And he said to them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. BSB BSB: So He told them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
WBS Behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. BSB BSB: Behold, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
WBS Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject to you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Jesus’ Prayer of Thanksgiving (Matthew 11:25–30)
WBS In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. BSB BSB: At that time Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight.
WBS All things are delivered to me by my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him . BSB BSB: All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

WBS For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things which ye see, and have not seen them ; and to hear the things which ye hear, and have not heard them . BSB BSB: For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

WBS He said to him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? BSB BSB: “What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?”
WBS And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself. BSB BSB: He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
WBS And he said to him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. BSB BSB: “You have answered correctly,” Jesus said. “Do this and you will live.”

WBS And on the morrow, when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said to him, Take care of him: and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. BSB BSB: The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Take care of him,’ he said, ‘and on my return I will repay you for any additional expense.’

WBS But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. BSB BSB: But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”
