A Call to Repentance (Joel 1:13–20; Amos 5:4–15; Zephaniah 2:1–3)
WBS And Jesus answering, said to them, Suppose ye that these Galileans were sinners above all the Galileans, because they suffered such things? BSB BSB: To this He replied, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this way?
WBS I tell you, No; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. BSB BSB: No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
WBS Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and killed them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? BSB BSB: Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem?
WBS I tell you, No; but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. BSB BSB: No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
The Parable of the Barren Fig Tree (Isaiah 5:1–7)
WBS Then said he to the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig-tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? BSB BSB: So he said to the keeper of the vineyard, ‘Look, for the past three years I have come to search for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Therefore cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?’
WBS And he answering, said to him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it : BSB BSB: ‘Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone again this year, until I dig around it and fertilize it.
WBS And if it shall bear fruit, well : and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down. BSB BSB: If it bears fruit next year, fine. But if not, you can cut it down.’”
Jesus Heals a Disabled Woman 10 WBS And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. BSB BSB: One Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues,
WBS And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise raise herself . BSB BSB: and a woman there had been disabled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was hunched over and could not stand up straight.
WBS And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him , and said to her, Woman, thou art loosed from thy infirmity. BSB BSB: When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your disability.”
WBS And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. BSB BSB: Then He placed His hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and began to glorify God.
WBS And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath. BSB BSB: But the synagogue leader was indignant that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath. “There are six days for work,” he told the crowd. “So come and be healed on those days and not on the Sabbath.”
WBS The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? BSB BSB: “You hypocrites!” the Lord replied. “Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it to water?
WBS And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath? BSB BSB: Then should not this daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be released from her bondage on the Sabbath day?”
WBS And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him. BSB BSB: When Jesus said this, all His adversaries were humiliated. And the whole crowd rejoiced at all the glorious things He was doing.

WBS Then said he, To what is the kingdom of God like? and to what shall I resemble it? BSB BSB: Then Jesus asked, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?
WBS It is like a grain of mustard-seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden, and it grew, and became a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. BSB BSB: It is like a mustard seed that a man tossed into his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.”
The Parable of the Leaven (Matthew 13:33)
WBS And again he said, To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? BSB BSB: Again He asked, “To what can I compare the kingdom of God?
WBS It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. BSB BSB: It is like leaven that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened.”
The Narrow Door (Matthew 7:13–14)
WBS And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying towards Jerusalem. BSB BSB: Then Jesus traveled throughout the towns and villages, teaching as He made His way toward Jerusalem.
WBS Then said one to him, Lord, are there few that are saved? And he said to them, BSB BSB: “Lord,” someone asked Him, “will only a few people be saved?” Jesus answered,
WBS Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say to you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. BSB BSB: “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able.
WBS When once the master of the house hath risen, and hath shut the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us; and he will answer and say to you, I know you not whence ye are: BSB BSB: After the master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ But he will reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’
WBS Then ye will begin to say, We have eaten and drank in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. BSB BSB: Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’
WBS But he will say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are: depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. BSB BSB: And he will answer, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers.’
WBS There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves excluded. BSB BSB: There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves are thrown out.
WBS And they will come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God. BSB BSB: People will come from east and west and north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God.
WBS And behold, there are last, who shall be first; and there are first who shall be last. BSB BSB: And indeed, some who are last will be first, and some who are first will be last.”
Lament over Jerusalem (Matthew 23:37–39)
WBS The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying to him, Go out, and depart hence; for Herod will kill thee. BSB BSB: At that very hour, some Pharisees came to Jesus and told Him, “Leave this place and get away, because Herod wants to kill You.”
WBS And he said to them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out demons, and I do cures to-day and to-morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. BSB BSB: But Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘Look, I will keep driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach My goal.’
WBS Nevertheless, I must walk to-day and to-morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet should perish out of Jerusalem. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not admissible for a prophet to perish outside of Jerusalem.
WBS O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent to thee; how often would I have gathered thy children, as a hen gathereth her brood under her wings, and ye would not! BSB BSB: O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those sent to her, how often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were unwilling!
WBS Behold, your house is left to you desolate. And verily I say to you, ye shall not see me, until the time shall come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. BSB BSB: Look, your house is left to you desolate. And I tell you that you will not see Me again until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.’”
