1. The Genealogy of Jesus

3. 2WBSAbraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judah and his brethren;BSBBSB: Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, and Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
4. 3WBSAnd Judah begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;BSBBSB: Judah was the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram.

19. The Birth of Jesus

    (Isaiah 7:10–16; Luke 2:1–7)

20. 18WBSNow the birth of Jesus Christ was in this manner: When his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child by the Holy Spirit.BSBBSB: This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged in marriage to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
21. 19WBSThen Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, purposed to put her away privately.BSBBSB: Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and was unwilling to disgrace her publicly, he resolved to divorce her quietly.
22. 20WBSBut while he thought on these things, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take to thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is by the Holy Spirit.BSBBSB: But after he had pondered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to embrace Mary as your wife, for the One conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

24. 22WBSNow all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken from the Lord by the prophet, saying,BSBBSB: All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
25. 23WBSBehold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.BSBBSB: “Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel” (which means, “God with us”).
26. 24WBSThen Joseph, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took to him his wife:BSBBSB: When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and embraced Mary as his wife.
27. 25WBSAnd knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son: and he called his name JESUS.BSBBSB: But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a Son. And he gave Him the name Jesus.
