Righteousness through Faith in Christ (Romans 3:21–31)
WBS Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe. BSB BSB: Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you.
WBS For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. BSB BSB: For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—
WBS Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath reason to trust in the flesh, I more: BSB BSB: though I myself could have such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has grounds for confidence in the flesh, I have more:
WBS Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; with respect to the law, a Pharisee; BSB BSB: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin; a Hebrew of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee;
WBS Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; with respect to the righteousness which is by the law, blameless. BSB BSB: as to zeal, persecuting the church; as to righteousness in the law, faultless.
WBS But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. BSB BSB: But whatever was gain to me I count as loss for the sake of Christ.
WBS Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ, BSB BSB: More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
WBS And be found in him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith: BSB BSB: and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God on the basis of faith.
WBS That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable to his death; BSB BSB: I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to Him in His death,
WBS If by any means I may attain to the resurrection of the dead. BSB BSB: and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
Pressing on toward the Goal 13 WBS Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do , forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forward to those things which are before, BSB BSB: Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
WBS I press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. BSB BSB: I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.
WBS Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye are otherwise minded, God will reveal even this to you. BSB BSB: All of us who are mature should embrace this point of view. And if you think differently about some issue, God will reveal this to you as well.
WBS Nevertheless, to what we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. BSB BSB: Nevertheless, we must live up to what we have already attained.
Citizenship in Heaven 17 WBS Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them who walk so as ye have us for an example. BSB BSB: Join one another in following my example, brothers, and carefully observe those who walk according to the pattern we set for you.
WBS (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: BSB BSB: For as I have often told you before, and now say again even with tears: Many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
WBS Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) BSB BSB: Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on earthly things.
WBS For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ: BSB BSB: But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
WBS Who will change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like to his glorious body, according to the working by which he is able even to subdue all things to himself. BSB BSB: who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.
