Accept One Another 1 WBS We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. BSB BSB: We who are strong ought to bear with the shortcomings of the weak and not to please ourselves.
WBS Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification. BSB BSB: Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
WBS For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me. BSB BSB: For even Christ did not please Himself, but as it is written: “The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.”
WBS For whatever things were written formerly, were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. BSB BSB: For everything that was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures, we might have hope.
WBS Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be like-minded one towards another according to Christ Jesus: BSB BSB: Now may the God who gives endurance and encouragement grant you harmony with one another in Christ Jesus,
WBS That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Christ the Servant of Jews and Gentiles 7 WBS Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. BSB BSB: Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring glory to God.
WBS Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers: BSB BSB: For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs,
WBS And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing to thy name. BSB BSB: so that the Gentiles may glorify God for His mercy. As it is written: “Therefore I will praise You among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to Your name.”
WBS And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. BSB BSB: Again, it says: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.”
WBS And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. BSB BSB: And again: “Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and extol Him, all you peoples.”
WBS And again Isaiah saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust. BSB BSB: And once more, Isaiah says: “The Root of Jesse will appear, One who will arise to rule over the Gentiles; in Him the Gentiles will put their hope.”
WBS Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul the Minister to the Gentiles 14 WBS And I myself also am persuaded concerning you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. BSB BSB: I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, brimming with knowledge, and able to instruct one another.
WBS Nevertheless, brethren, I have written the more boldly to you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me from God. BSB BSB: However, I have written you a bold reminder on some points, because of the grace God has given me
WBS That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. BSB BSB: to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
WBS I have therefore cause for glorying through Jesus Christ, in those things which pertain to God. BSB BSB: Therefore I exult in Christ Jesus in my service to God.
WBS For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed, BSB BSB: I will not presume to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obedience by word and deed,
WBS Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and around to Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. BSB BSB: by the power of signs and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.
WBS And so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: BSB BSB: In this way I have aspired to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.
WBS But as it is written, They shall see to whom he was not spoken of: and they that have not heard shall understand. BSB BSB: Rather, as it is written: “Those who were not told about Him will see, and those who have not heard will understand.”
WBS For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. BSB BSB: That is why I have often been hindered from coming to you.
Paul’s Travel Plans (1 Corinthians 16:5–9)
WBS But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come to you; BSB BSB: But now that there are no further opportunities for me in these regions, and since I have longed for many years to visit you,
WBS Whenever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I shall be somewhat filled with your company . BSB BSB: I hope to see you on my way to Spain. And after I have enjoyed your company for a while, you can equip me for my journey.
WBS But now I go to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. BSB BSB: Now, however, I am on my way to Jerusalem to serve the saints there.
WBS For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor of the saints who are at Jerusalem. BSB BSB: For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.
WBS It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister to them in carnal things. BSB BSB: They were pleased to do it, and indeed they owe it to them. For if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual blessings, they are obligated to minister to them with material blessings.
WBS When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go by you into Spain. BSB BSB: So after I have completed this service and have safely delivered this bounty to them, I will set off to Spain by way of you.
WBS And I am sure that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ. BSB BSB: I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
WBS Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; BSB BSB: Now I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.
WBS That I may be delivered from them in Judea who do not believe; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem, may be acceptable to the saints; BSB BSB: Pray that I may be delivered from the unbelievers in Judea, and that my service in Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there,
WBS That I may come to you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. BSB BSB: so that by God’s will I may come to you with joy and together with you be refreshed.
WBS Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen. BSB BSB: The God of peace be with all of you. Amen.
