1 John 1 1 1 John The word of life; walking in the light Weymouth New Testament A pastoral letter giving believers assurance: those who walk in the light, love one another and confess Jesus come in the flesh know they have eternal life.
Introduction to 1 John
The Word of Life (Luke 24:36–49; John 20:19–23)
2 WNT the Life was manifested, and we have seen and bear witness, and we declare unto you the Life of the Ages which was with the Father and was manifested to us-- BSB BSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3 WNT that which we have seen and listened to we now announce to you also, in order that you also may have fellowship in it with us, and this fellowship with us is fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. BSB BSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4 WNT And we write these things in order that our joy may be made complete. BSB BSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
Walking in the Light (John 8:12–29)
5 WNT This is the Message which we have heard from the Lord Jesus and now deliver to you--God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness. BSB BSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6 WNT If, while we are living in darkness, we profess to have fellowship with Him, we speak falsely and are not adhering to the truth. BSB BSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 WNT But if we live in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin. BSB BSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
9 WNT If we confess our sins, He is so faithful and just that He forgives us our sins and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. BSB BSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 WNT If we deny that we have sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Message has no place in our hearts. BSB BSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
