1 John 1 1 1 John The word of life; walking in the light Young’s Literal Translation A pastoral letter giving believers assurance: those who walk in the light, love one another and confess Jesus come in the flesh know they have eternal life.
Introduction to 1 John
The Word of Life (Luke 24:36–49; John 20:19–23)
2 YLT and the Life was manifested, and we have seen, and do testify, and declare to you the Life, the age-during, which was with the Father, and was manifested to us — BSB BSB: And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.
3 YLT that which we have seen and heard declare we to you, that ye also may have fellowship with us, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ; BSB BSB: We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And this fellowship of ours is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.
4 YLT and these things we write to you, that your joy may be full. BSB BSB: We write these things so that our joy may be complete.
Walking in the Light (John 8:12–29)
5 YLT And this is the message that we have heard from Him, and announce to you, that God is light, and darkness in Him is not at all; BSB BSB: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6 YLT if we may say — 'we have fellowship with Him,' and in the darkness may walk — we lie, and do not the truth; BSB BSB: If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 YLT and if in the light we may walk, as He is in the light — we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son doth cleanse us from every sin; BSB BSB: But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
9 YLT if we may confess our sins, stedfast He is and righteous that He may forgive us the sins, and may cleanse us from every unrighteousness; BSB BSB: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 YLT if we may say — 'we have not sinned,' a liar we make Him, and His word is not in us. BSB BSB: If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.
