Jesus the True Vine (Isaiah 27:1–13)
AKJV I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer. BSB BSB: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard.
AKJV Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit. BSB BSB: He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
AKJV Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you. BSB BSB: You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
AKJV Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me. BSB BSB: Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.
AKJV I am the vine, you are the branches: He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. BSB BSB: I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.
AKJV If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. BSB BSB: If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
AKJV If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done to you. BSB BSB: If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
AKJV Herein is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be my disciples. BSB BSB: This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.
No Greater Love 9 AKJV As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue you in my love. BSB BSB: As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love.
AKJV If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. BSB BSB: If you keep My commandments, you will remain in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and remain in His love.
AKJV These things have I spoken to you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. BSB BSB: I have told you these things so that My joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
AKJV This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you. BSB BSB: This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
AKJV Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. BSB BSB: Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
AKJV You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. BSB BSB: You are My friends if you do what I command you.
AKJV From now on I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known to you. BSB BSB: No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because everything I have learned from My Father I have made known to you.
AKJV You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. BSB BSB: You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
AKJV These things I command you, that you love one another. BSB BSB: This is My command to you: Love one another.
The Hatred of the World 18 AKJV If the world hate you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. BSB BSB: If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first.
AKJV If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. BSB BSB: If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.
AKJV Remember the word that I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. BSB BSB: Remember the word that I spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you as well; if they kept My word, they will keep yours as well.
AKJV But all these things will they do to you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. BSB BSB: But they will treat you like this because of My name, since they do not know the One who sent Me.
AKJV If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. BSB BSB: If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.
AKJV He that hates me hates my Father also. BSB BSB: Whoever hates Me hates My Father as well.
AKJV If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. BSB BSB: If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.
AKJV But this comes to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause. BSB BSB: But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’
AKJV And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. BSB BSB: And you also must testify, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
