Jesus Teaches at the Feast 1 AKJV After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him. BSB BSB: After this, Jesus traveled throughout Galilee. He did not want to travel in Judea, because the Jews there were trying to kill Him.
AKJV Now the Jew’s feast of tabernacles was at hand. BSB BSB: However, the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles was near.
AKJV His brothers therefore said to him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that your disciples also may see the works that you do. BSB BSB: So Jesus’ brothers said to Him, “Leave here and go to Judea, so that Your disciples there may see the works You are doing.
AKJV For there is no man that does any thing in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, show yourself to the world. BSB BSB: For no one who wants to be known publicly acts in secret. Since You are doing these things, show Yourself to the world.”
AKJV Then Jesus said to them, My time is not yet come: but your time is always ready. BSB BSB: Therefore Jesus told them, “Although your time is always at hand, My time has not yet come.
AKJV The world cannot hate you; but me it hates, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil. BSB BSB: The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify that its works are evil.
AKJV Go you up to this feast: I go not up yet to this feast: for my time is not yet full come. BSB BSB: Go up to the feast on your own. I am not going up to this feast, because My time has not yet come.”
AKJV When he had said these words to them, he stayed still in Galilee. BSB BSB: Having said this, Jesus remained in Galilee.
AKJV But when his brothers were gone up, then went he also up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. BSB BSB: But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, He also went—not publicly, but in secret.
AKJV Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? BSB BSB: So the Jews were looking for Him at the feast and asking, “Where is He?”
AKJV And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, No; but he deceives the people. BSB BSB: Many in the crowds were whispering about Him. Some said, “He is a good man.” But others replied, “No, He deceives the people.”
AKJV However, no man spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews. BSB BSB: Yet no one would speak publicly about Him for fear of the Jews.
AKJV Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. BSB BSB: About halfway through the feast, Jesus went up to the temple courts and began to teach.
AKJV Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. BSB BSB: “My teaching is not My own,” Jesus replied. “It comes from Him who sent Me.
AKJV If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. BSB BSB: If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.
AKJV He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. BSB BSB: He who speaks on his own authority seeks his own glory, but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is a man of truth; in Him there is no falsehood.
AKJV Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why go you about to kill me? BSB BSB: Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps it. Why are you trying to kill Me?”
AKJV The people answered and said, You have a devil: who goes about to kill you? BSB BSB: “You have a demon,” the crowd replied. “Who is trying to kill You?”
AKJV Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one work, and you all marvel. BSB BSB: Jesus answered them, “I did one miracle, and you are all amazed.
AKJV Moses therefore gave to you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and you on the sabbath day circumcise a man. BSB BSB: But because Moses gave you circumcision, you circumcise a boy on the Sabbath (not that it is from Moses, but from the patriarchs.)
AKJV If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are you angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? BSB BSB: If a boy can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses will not be broken, why are you angry with Me for making the whole man well on the Sabbath?
AKJV Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. BSB BSB: Stop judging by outward appearances, and start judging justly.”
Is Jesus the Christ? 25 AKJV Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? BSB BSB: Then some of the people of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?
AKJV But, see, he speaks boldly, and they say nothing to him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ? BSB BSB: Yet here He is, speaking publicly, and they are not saying anything to Him. Have the rulers truly recognized that this is the Christ?
AKJV However, we know this man from where he is: but when Christ comes, no man knows from where he is. BSB BSB: But we know where this man is from. When the Christ comes, no one will know where He is from.”
AKJV Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, You both know me, and you know from where I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom you know not. BSB BSB: Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “You know Me, and you know where I am from. I have not come of My own accord, but He who sent Me is true. You do not know Him,
AKJV But I know him: for I am from him, and he has sent me. BSB BSB: but I know Him, because I am from Him and He sent Me.”
AKJV Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come. BSB BSB: So they tried to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
AKJV And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ comes, will he do more miracles than these which this man has done? BSB BSB: Many in the crowd, however, believed in Him and said, “When the Christ comes, will He perform more signs than this man?”
AKJV The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him. BSB BSB: When the Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Jesus, they and the chief priests sent officers to arrest Him.
AKJV Then said Jesus to them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go to him that sent me. BSB BSB: So Jesus said, “I am with you only a little while longer, and then I am going to the One who sent Me.
AKJV You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come. BSB BSB: You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”
AKJV Then said the Jews among themselves, Where will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go to the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? BSB BSB: At this, the Jews said to one another, “Where does He intend to go that we will not find Him? Will He go where the Jews are dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
AKJV What manner of saying is this that he said, You shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither you cannot come? BSB BSB: What does He mean by saying, ‘You will look for Me, but you will not find Me,’ and, ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
Living Water 37 AKJV In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come to me, and drink. BSB BSB: On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood up and called out in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
AKJV He that believes on me, as the scripture has said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. BSB BSB: Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will flow from within him.’”
AKJV (But this spoke he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.) BSB BSB: He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.
Division over Jesus 40 AKJV Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. BSB BSB: On hearing these words, some of the people said, “This is truly the Prophet.”
AKJV Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? BSB BSB: Others declared, “This is the Christ.” But still others asked, “How can the Christ come from Galilee?
AKJV Has not the scripture said, That Christ comes of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was? BSB BSB: Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Christ will come from the line of David and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?”
AKJV So there was a division among the people because of him. BSB BSB: So there was division in the crowd because of Jesus.
AKJV And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him. BSB BSB: Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him.
The Unbelief of the Jewish Leaders 45 AKJV Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said to them, Why have you not brought him? BSB BSB: Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, “Why didn’t you bring Him in?”
AKJV The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man. BSB BSB: “Never has anyone spoken like this man!” the officers answered.
AKJV Then answered them the Pharisees, Are you also deceived? BSB BSB: “Have you also been deceived?” replied the Pharisees.

AKJV Does our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he does? BSB BSB: “Does our law convict a man without first hearing from him to determine what he has done?”
AKJV They answered and said to him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee rises no prophet. BSB BSB: “Aren’t you also from Galilee?” they replied. “Look into it, and you will see that no prophet comes out of Galilee.”
