The Woman Caught in Adultery 1 AKJV Jesus went to the mount of Olives. BSB BSB: But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
AKJV And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him; and he sat down, and taught them. BSB BSB: Early in the morning He went back into the temple courts. All the people came to Him, and He sat down to teach them.
AKJV And the scribes and Pharisees brought to him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the middle, BSB BSB: The scribes and Pharisees, however, brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before them
AKJV They say to him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. BSB BSB: and said, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.
AKJV Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what say you? BSB BSB: In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman. So what do You say?”
AKJV This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. BSB BSB: They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.
AKJV So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. BSB BSB: When they continued to question Him, He straightened up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.”
AKJV And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. BSB BSB: And again He bent down and wrote on the ground.
AKJV And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the oldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the middle. BSB BSB: When they heard this, they began to go away one by one, beginning with the older ones, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there.
AKJV When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are those your accusers? has no man condemned you? BSB BSB: Then Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?”
AKJV She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn you: go, and sin no more. BSB BSB: “No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”
Jesus the Light of the World (1 John 1:5–10)
AKJV Then spoke Jesus again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. BSB BSB: Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
AKJV The Pharisees therefore said to him, You bore record of yourself; your record is not true. BSB BSB: So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not valid.”
AKJV Jesus answered and said to them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know from where I came, and where I go; but you cannot tell from where I come, and where I go. BSB BSB: Jesus replied, “Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is valid, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going.
AKJV You judge after the flesh; I judge no man. BSB BSB: You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.
AKJV And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me. BSB BSB: But even if I do judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone; I am with the Father who sent Me.
AKJV It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true. BSB BSB: Even in your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.
AKJV I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me bears witness of me. BSB BSB: I am One who testifies about Myself, and the Father, who sent Me, also testifies about Me.”
AKJV Then said they to him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You neither know me, nor my Father: if you had known me, you should have known my Father also. BSB BSB: “Where is Your Father?” they asked Him. “You do not know Me or My Father,” Jesus answered. “If you knew Me, you would know My Father as well.”
AKJV These words spoke Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come. BSB BSB: He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts, near the treasury. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.
AKJV Then said Jesus again to them, I go my way, and you shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: where I go, you cannot come. BSB BSB: Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”
AKJV Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he says, Where I go, you cannot come. BSB BSB: So the Jews began to ask, “Will He kill Himself, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you cannot come’?”
AKJV And he said to them, You are from beneath; I am from above: you are of this world; I am not of this world. BSB BSB: Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
AKJV I said therefore to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sins. BSB BSB: That is why I told you that you would die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
AKJV Then said they to him, Who are you? And Jesus says to them, Even the same that I said to you from the beginning. BSB BSB: “Who are You?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied.
AKJV I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. BSB BSB: “I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.”
AKJV They understood not that he spoke to them of the Father. BSB BSB: They did not understand that He was telling them about the Father.
AKJV Then said Jesus to them, When you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father has taught me, I speak these things. BSB BSB: So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.
AKJV And he that sent me is with me: the Father has not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him. BSB BSB: He who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do what pleases Him.”
The Truth Will Set You Free (2 John 1:4–6)
AKJV As he spoke these words, many believed on him. BSB BSB: As Jesus spoke these things, many believed in Him.
AKJV Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; BSB BSB: So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples.
AKJV And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. BSB BSB: Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
AKJV They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how say you, You shall be made free? BSB BSB: “We are Abraham’s descendants,” they answered. “We have never been slaves to anyone. How can You say we will be set free?”
AKJV Jesus answered them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Whoever commits sin is the servant of sin. BSB BSB: Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.
AKJV And the servant stays not in the house for ever: but the Son stays ever. BSB BSB: A slave does not remain in the house forever, but a son remains forever.
AKJV If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. BSB BSB: So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
AKJV I know that you are Abraham’s seed; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you. BSB BSB: I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you.
AKJV I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do that which you have seen with your father. BSB BSB: I speak of what I have seen in the presence of the Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”
AKJV They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus says to them, If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. BSB BSB: “Abraham is our father,” they replied. “If you were children of Abraham,” said Jesus, “you would do the works of Abraham.
AKJV But now you seek to kill me, a man that has told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham. BSB BSB: But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.
AKJV You do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God. BSB BSB: You are doing the works of your father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they declared. “Our only Father is God Himself.”
AKJV Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. BSB BSB: Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on My own, but He sent Me.
AKJV Why do you not understand my speech? even because you cannot hear my word. BSB BSB: Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you are unable to accept My message.
AKJV You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. BSB BSB: You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 AKJV And because I tell you the truth, you believe me not. BSB BSB: But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!
AKJV Which of you convinces me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do you not believe me? BSB BSB: Which of you can prove Me guilty of sin? If I speak the truth, why do you not believe Me?
AKJV He that is of God hears God’s words: you therefore hear them not, because you are not of God. BSB BSB: Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”
Before Abraham Was Born, I Am 48 AKJV Then answered the Jews, and said to him, Say we not well that you are a Samaritan, and have a devil? BSB BSB: The Jews answered Him, “Are we not right to say that You are a Samaritan and You have a demon?”
AKJV Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honor my Father, and you do dishonor me. BSB BSB: “I do not have a demon,” Jesus replied, “but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.
AKJV And I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeks and judges. BSB BSB: I do not seek My own glory. There is One who seeks it, and He is the Judge.
AKJV Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death. BSB BSB: Truly, truly, I tell you, if anyone keeps My word, he will never see death.”
AKJV Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that you have a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and you say, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. BSB BSB: “Now we know that You have a demon!” declared the Jews. “Abraham died, and so did the prophets, yet You say that anyone who keeps Your word will never taste death.
AKJV Are you greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom make you yourself? BSB BSB: Are You greater than our father Abraham? He died, as did the prophets. Who do You claim to be?”
AKJV Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honors me; of whom you say, that he is your God: BSB BSB: Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory means nothing. The One who glorifies Me is My Father, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’
AKJV Yet you have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like to you: but I know him, and keep his saying. BSB BSB: You do not know Him, but I know Him. If I said I did not know Him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know Him, and I keep His word.

BSB BSB: “Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!” 59 AKJV Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the middle of them, and so passed by. BSB BSB: At this, they picked up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus was hidden and went out of the temple area.
