The Faith of the Centurion (Matthew 8:5–13; John 4:43–54)
AKJV Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. BSB BSB: When Jesus had concluded His discourse in the hearing of the people, He went to Capernaum.
AKJV And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick, and ready to die. BSB BSB: There a highly valued servant of a centurion was sick and about to die.

AKJV Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, Lord, trouble not yourself: for I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof: BSB BSB: So Jesus went with them. But when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends with the message: “Lord, do not trouble Yourself, for I am not worthy to have You come under my roof.
AKJV Why neither thought I myself worthy to come to you: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. BSB BSB: That is why I did not consider myself worthy to come to You. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
AKJV For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say to one, Go, and he goes; and to another, Come, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does it. BSB BSB: For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell one to go, and he goes, and another to come, and he comes. I tell my servant to do something, and he does it.”
AKJV When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned him about, and said to the people that followed him, I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. BSB BSB: When Jesus heard this, He marveled at the centurion. Turning to the crowd following Him, He said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”
AKJV And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick. BSB BSB: And when the messengers returned to the house, they found the servant in good health.

AKJV And he came and touched the bier: and they that bore him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say to you, Arise. BSB BSB: Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. “Young man,” He said, “I tell you, get up!”
AKJV And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. BSB BSB: And the dead man sat up and began to speak! Then Jesus gave him back to his mother.
AKJV And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God has visited his people. BSB BSB: A sense of awe swept over all of them, and they glorified God. “A great prophet has appeared among us!” they said. “God has visited His people!”
AKJV And this rumor of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about. BSB BSB: And the news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding region.

AKJV When the men were come to him, they said, John Baptist has sent us to you, saying, Are you he that should come? or look we for another? BSB BSB: When the men came to Jesus, they said, “John the Baptist sent us to ask, ‘Are You the One who was to come, or should we look for someone else?’”
AKJV And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and to many that were blind he gave sight. BSB BSB: At that very hour Jesus healed many people of their diseases, afflictions, and evil spirits, and He gave sight to many who were blind.
AKJV Then Jesus answering said to them, Go your way, and tell John what things you have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. BSB BSB: So He replied, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
AKJV And blessed is he, whoever shall not be offended in me. BSB BSB: Blessed is the one who does not fall away on account of Me.”

BSB BSB: After John’s messengers had left, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swaying in the wind?
AKJV But what went you out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously appareled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts. BSB BSB: Otherwise, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? Look, those who wear elegant clothing and live in luxury are found in palaces.
AKJV But what went you out for to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. BSB BSB: What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
AKJV This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, which shall prepare your way before you. BSB BSB: This is the one about whom it is written: ‘Behold, I will send My messenger ahead of You, who will prepare Your way before You.’
AKJV For I say to you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. 32 AKJV They are like to children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped to you, and you have not danced; we have mourned to you, and you have not wept. BSB BSB: They are like children sitting in the marketplace and calling out to one another: ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’

AKJV The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and you say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of publicans and sinners! BSB BSB: The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at this glutton and drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’
AKJV But wisdom is justified of all her children. BSB BSB: But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”
A Sinful Woman Anoints Jesus (Matthew 26:6–13; Mark 14:3–9; John 12:1–8)
AKJV And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to meat. BSB BSB: Then one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to eat with him, and He entered the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table.

BSB BSB: As she stood behind Him at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears and wipe them with her hair. Then she kissed His feet and anointed them with the perfume.
AKJV Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner. BSB BSB: When the Pharisee who had invited Jesus saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, He would know who this is and what kind of woman is touching Him—for she is a sinner!”

AKJV And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? BSB BSB: When they were unable to repay him, he forgave both of them. Which one, then, will love him more?”
AKJV Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said to him, You have rightly judged. BSB BSB: “I suppose the one who was forgiven more,” Simon replied. “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.
AKJV And he turned to the woman, and said to Simon, See you this woman? I entered into your house, you gave me no water for my feet: but she has washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. BSB BSB: And turning toward the woman, He said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? When I entered your house, you did not give Me water for My feet, but she wet My feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.
AKJV You gave me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in has not ceased to kiss my feet. BSB BSB: You did not greet Me with a kiss, but she has not stopped kissing My feet since I arrived.
AKJV My head with oil you did not anoint: but this woman has anointed my feet with ointment. BSB BSB: You did not anoint My head with oil, but she has anointed My feet with perfume.
AKJV Why I say to you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little. BSB BSB: Therefore I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven, for she has loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little.”
AKJV And he said to her, Your sins are forgiven. BSB BSB: Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
AKJV And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgives sins also? BSB BSB: But those at the table began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
AKJV And he said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go in peace. BSB BSB: And Jesus told the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
